+Gr.Viper Posted March 12, 2008 Posted March 12, 2008 They used Morane, early Nieuports... most planes supplied to Eastern Front were obsolete for Western. Not many Russian-developed planes got much attention - most known is Ilya Mutomets, four-engine bomber. Then there's Sikorsky S-16 (got a book on that one).. M series of flying boats. There were a number of planes developed and tested that never made it to production, because engineers and designers were busy building for example French planes. Like MB bis that flies as "Moska" in FSWW1. "From 1909 to 1918 Russia developed 311 original aircraft designs, of which 240 made it to test flights, 38 were mass-produced" thats from a small book on Russian planes of 1914-1918. There are several Russian designs that were unique and despite never getting past flyable prototypes are quite impressive. A triplane without horisontal tail and extremely thin wings (the pilot had excellent view), a bomber with wheels 2m in diameter, a biplane with wings that could be swept backward in flight...
