markjhnstn 5 Posted October 22, 2008 Will Ground Structure add-ons created for WOE and WOV work in FE? I was thinking about trying out a couple like a factory complex add-on i've seen here for WOE and a railway station for WOV. Just wondered if anyone else had tried something similar before i start messing around.
+Tailspin 3 Posted October 23, 2008 They should work ok as long as you have all the appropriate LODs (3d models), BMPs ("skins") and any .ini files that go with them. You also have to make the proper entries in the Terrain types.ini and targets.ini and make sure there are no conflicting names with buildings and such already in the game. I've used other 3rd party 3d objects (some of Polak's stuff) in FE and they work fine.

I placed the hulfstrum factory complex just outside lille and near to that i placed the Dang tao, Haiphong and Thai nguyen railway stations. I'll have to tinker with the co-ordinates to line them up a bit more in the way of a marshalling yard a la RB3D. Just need to put some AAA around them in the mission builder. Can i repeat this for other locations on the map? Would i have to rename them and then make new entries in the target ini?
+Tailspin 3 Posted October 23, 2008 You can either make them separate target areas or you can add them to other target areas by using the offset coordinates of that particular target area. The problem with adding target like a railway yard, which I assume is composed of multiple objects arranged in a particular way, is that each individual object has to be placed according to the main area offset which normally has its center at 0,0. It would be much easier to just make a separate target area for each station and rename it whatever you like. Then just place it using the main map coords. That way everything within the target should be oriented correctly with each other and you should be able to rotate the entire target area around your heading at Target001. At least thats the way airfields and bridges work. You can also add AAA as offsets to the target area itself. Also, using separate target areas, the game will generate specific missions for those targets. Hope this makes sense. Here's a Bridge I did to illustrate adding the AAA. The bridge is the center of the area (0,0) and everything else is placed as offsets of it and everything rotates around it according to the Target001 heading. I assume the railroad yards as set up basically the same way. [TargetArea413] Name=Carvin Bridge Position=110247.000,161247.000 Location=1 Alignment=Enemy Target[001].Type=Bridge1 Target[001].Offset=0,0 Target[001].Heading=0 Target[002].Type=AAA Target[002].Offset=-100,-75 Target[002].Heading=0 Target[003].Type=AAA Target[003].Offset=100,75 Target[003].Heading=180 Target[004].Type=ParabellumAAA Target[004].Offset=10.0,-50.0 Target[004].Heading=90 Target[005].Type=ParabellumAAA Target[005].Offset=-10.0,-150.0 Target[005].Heading=180 Target[006].Type=ParabellumAAA Target[006].Offset=-10.0,50.0 Target[006].Heading=180 Target[007].Type=ParabellumAAA Target[007].Offset=10.0,150.0 Target[007].Heading=90 Target[008].Type=SandBags Target[008].Offset=10.0,-50.0 Target[008].Heading=90 Target[009].Type=SandBags Target[009].Offset=-10.0,50.0 Target[009].Heading=90 Now if you're just placing single objects then often its easier to add them to existing Target Areas using the offsets. Wrench 9,846 Posted October 23, 2008 Here's a train station, with north/south orientation (obviously from the Korea rebuild-in-progress). It uses the train station availabe here in the downloads section; the only thing NOT in that is Polak's boxcars (the af item). I know one of the 'siding' object is off slightly...but disremember which one. I don't know if the 'warehouse' item is in FE, but it's easly imported for SF/WoV/WoE etc, or swaped out for something FE-ish Adjust postion, name, target number, and alignment as necessary. You'll have to make your own flag.... or replace with some oildrums or some such. +Tailspin 3 Posted October 24, 2008 Ok Kevin...what train station and where? No can find.
Wrench 9,846 Posted October 24, 2008 Wow...that was interesting....it was under "Environmental Mods"....I didn't think trains were/had any effect on the environment. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=1043 most peculiar!!! Took me a looooong time to find it; cause I knew I'd gotten it here. At worst, you could 'borrow' the train station bits from the WW2 MTO maps (or the Burma/China upgrades) Wrench kevin stein
+Tailspin 3 Posted October 24, 2008 No wonder I couldn't find it. One, the Search function sux. Two, its a railway station and I was using "train station". Three, it in the Environmental mods section....
+Tailspin 3 Posted October 24, 2008 Hey markjhnstn. Looking forward to some screenies of your project!
markjhnstn 5 Posted October 24, 2008 Thanks for all the info guys! Yes, i will show a screenie or two. Will be having another tinker around tomorrow after work!!
Wrench 9,846 Posted October 24, 2008 I should mention the 'boxcars' I used are part of Polak's Object Library, and not readily available. If they're needed (read: wanted), shoot me a PM and 'slip it under the door" and, yes,the search function REALLLy does suk!! Wrench kevin stein

Wrench 9,846 Posted October 25, 2008 Looks good. Can you give us a closer shot, using the free camera view?? Also, it looks like it's crossing a river...is there a bridge there or just the tracks going over?? (as I may have a railbridge) Wrench kevin stein
markjhnstn 5 Posted October 26, 2008 It's crossing a road. Avoiding roads, trees etc is a bit of a problem. I have a few screenies but it seems i can only upload up to 1 meg at any one time. img00014.bmp
