Lt. James Cater Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 (edited) Considering the limitations of the fellow AI pilots which one leads into battle, it's nice sometimes to have everything go your way. As of this writing, i'm doing the '79 campaign in WOE flying an F-15. I've since past my personal best in kills but also have a few in my squadron who are serious aces in thier own right. At this stage, attrition has cut into us, but man have we been responsible for bleeding the Sovs of a whole lot of planes. On an intercept mission a few days ago i scrambled 12 F-15s. As usual, i climbed almost vertically to 25,000ft and headed towards the enemy at full speed guided by Red Crown. The distance to go towards interception was about 70 miles so i wanted to get to them as quick as possible. After a few minutes(felt like an eternity at the time) i made contact and began the affair. The first target i gave to my wingman to engage while i quickly shifted to another. May the massacre begin! You know how we always gripe about the AI here? No worry on that day. It got to the point that perhaps 4-5 times i had MIGs that i was about to shoot at suddenly explode from the fire of my fellows. I actually jumped a few times from the sound ( I use TDK MP-100 headphones) and flash of enemy planes blowing up near me. When there was nothing else to shoot within reasonable range i got everyone together and headed home. Our losses-0. The Enemy-28. Only a single pilot failed to score , some had multiples. One who i thought of as a second rater got 4! Who else has had missions like this? Is it an a rare occurence or can it be duplicated? Was it the aircraft we were flying? I'm curious to hear from others and compare notes. Edited January 31, 2009 by Lt. James Cater Quote
triplethr3at Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 well it could very well be the aircraft you are flying. For example I had a mission not to long ago where i had 16 mig-15 (us) against 16 f-100s and 4 f-104s. Needless to say hey were all shot down with only one loss to an f-100 sidewinder. The engagement took a while though and all the kills were gun kills Quote
Falcon161 Posted January 30, 2009 Posted January 30, 2009 It seems to be the pilots, For example 4 Su-30G, TMAF versions of the Su-30, against about 20 or more Mig-31M's. We were armed with R-27's, Python 3's, R-77's, and AIM-54's. They managed to damage my wingman with their guns so I sent him back to base. we obliterated the Mig-31's I got about 8 missile kills and 2 gun kills the others im my flight mopped up the others quickly!
