Sopwith Pups are tough cookies...

Recommended Posts

I am finding that shooting down a Sopwith Pup is quite difficult. As opposed, say, to the Camel. I can get off good shots at the Pups and even get them to smoke and stagger out of formation. I presume that they will spiral down eventually. But to get one to fold up is near impossible. I've hung on the tail of cripples and poured long bursts into them and they just keep drifting along. Camels, on the other hand, seem to shed wings and explode relatively easily. Same with SE-5's. Anyone else having a similar experience?

Are you sure they are not Sopwith Strutters? There is a small error in the .xdp file of the Strutter that makes the wing strength of these planes much stronger than they are supposed to be. I'm not aware of any problem with the Pup, however.

As you know, I have experienced almost no breaking up of planes in the Normal or Hardcore damage model version of my install of OFF.

As a result I modded the XDP files - see how to mod your own in the "3rd party mods and files " forum,

( it's there amongst all the different skins that are posted there :) ),

As result I am now getting folding wings and explosions. Funnily enough, though, as stated in this thread, I find that the Camel and the SE5a still incur, more readily, obvious damage than the others, e.g Pup ,Tripe etc

It is nice to know that whatever level of damage I want I can create. And therefore, it is not arcade but what i regard as realistic. I.e If i put a load of bullets into an enemy I expect him to "get hurt "-

And now he does

Good. Glad to know it's not just me.

Herr Prop-Wasche: I'm flying QC, my Dr.1 against a Pup and five wingmen. So unless the AI slips in a Strutter or two...
