Macklroy 2 Posted April 21, 2009 Just currious. I love this game and am enjoying it more each day. I dont fly all full realism. I like to use auto mixture, and since i found that the ai doesnt have to deal with the wind, i disabled that as well. Just wondering though. Even with the wind disabled i still get tossed around in the clouds. I know, I know, "avoid them" well. im flying in formation and my flight flies right into the cloud with no thought otherwise. Meanwhile i get tossed around and sometimes even killed. I remember seeing other posts about this but couldnt find them. Any help appretiated. S! PS-current pilot has 4 confirmed with 4 still pending. Crossing my fingers i dont die before i get my 5th credit.
+Polovski 460 Posted April 22, 2009 from the FAQ 4) The CFS3 In-cloud effect switched off in cfs3config only turns off the visual 'foggy' in-cloud effect, and NOT the violent thermal vortices found in some clouds sometimes. This is as it was in CFS3. We had hoped to find a way to make it optional but cannot so far. However you should fly as they really did in WW1 and avoid going into clouds unless an emergency and you are escaping an enemy. Otherwise there is the risk of being thrown 100's of meters off course, at high speed spinning or otherwise out of control (in any direction including up!). In real life engine failure was also a very real consequence of flying through due to moisture. Bullethead 12 Posted April 22, 2009 I know, I know, "avoid them" well. im flying in formation and my flight flies right into the cloud with no thought otherwise. Meanwhile i get tossed around and sometimes even killed. I remember seeing other posts about this but couldnt find them. Any help appretiated. As Pol said, no way to turn off killer clouds. And also there's no way to keep your AI flight leader from flying through killer clouds. It's not going to bother him, so why should he care? Besides, if there are 3 total AI pilots and 1 human in the flight, and you die going through the cloud, that's acceptable casualties in Bloody April. Press on regardless! So the only real cure for your problem is to select "player always leads" in the Workshops. And believe me, there are several other important reasons than just clouds to pick this option. If you don't feel you're entitled to lead as a mere Flieger or Sergeant, then start out as an O-3, and rationalize this as you being an experienced pilot from a quiet front transferring in. After all, you've probably been flying sims for years already. And here's the really cool part. When you're warping, you can go right through evil clounds as if you're the AI, with no ill effects. And when you're not warping, you can avoid them without leaving our buddies. Best of both worlds ;).
Macklroy 2 Posted April 22, 2009 TY. Duely noted. I'll have to try 'always lead' next campaign. Having a blast in my current campaign. Except my good friend Harry Chapman was killed last misison. Been with me on every sortie since i transfered in.
