A painful suprise on a 'simple' Balloon Busting mission

Yep, I lost another one. I managed to sneak in a game between all the Spring RL stuff at home.

 

My Jasta 15 fledgling pilot of 5 hours and 3 submitted kills took up the flight for a spin and over the mud to an awaiting British Obs balloon. We had just been handed the keys to the Fokker D.VIIF's and it was a beautiful day.

 

Up we go, around the field for the forum-up, aces close by, everyone bobbing up and down and moving around to get into position... and off we go in a SE direction.

 

The Ace flight breaks off to handle some inbound EA, we continue on to the Balloon. I can see the Krumptet's toy in the distance, the AA start-up with it's pretty white phosphorus clouds. I am lined up, guns blazing... BAM!!!! I'm dead. A direct hit from Archie, right in the kisser.

 

Jeeze... this game never gets boring. Fact is, when I checked the mission report, I was too low and flat. I should have come higher and dove on it. I paid for that mistake.

 

Darn... and I was just getting to like this one.

Sorry for you, OvS, but also comforting to hear, that even an "old bone" like you has such things

happening. Flak is my nemesis - lost three good pilots to it.

But it's become milder on "normal" settings, at least in early 1917.

Same here. Nice to know I'm in good company. Regarding the spring stuff and not always taking the right approach in the game. Flak has gotten better, hallelujah.

I went thru 6 planes in 10 minutes first time i tried that mission.....

 

Figured pd was inna bad mood when he wrote it...
