Hauksbee 103 Posted April 28, 2009 The decoration by the Iron Cross? I've never heard anyone discuss what it was for but it seemed to be quite common. Also, the link below is worth checking out for anyone who wants replica clothing. They're in India and seem to be able to make anything to order. http://www.replicaters.com/ww1germanarmy.html
Olham 164 Posted April 28, 2009 Could it be this one - it's a "Beobachter-Abzeichen" (Observer's badge)? Difficult to recognise.
Olham 164 Posted April 28, 2009 Had a look at that adress - they really make you such a uniform! But I like most the "Ausgeh-Uniform" (uniform for representation). Here's a pic from the great movie "Der Blaue Max". There is that badge again, and I think, it might be just the Flieger-Abzeichen (aviator's badge) then, when it doesn't have that additional sign in the center? Well, they certainly say they can and I'm tempted. The badge turns out to be a basic Aviator's Badge, like the pilot's Wings over the pocket in WWII. http://www.earlyaviator.com/archive1.htm I went to this site to see if I could get a better view on a pilots photo. Turns out, they have a whole section on awards, etc. The basic badge shape was pretty much constant, and then a pilot/observer or gunner symbol filled the inside of the wreath. The link above has a phenominal collection of aviation photos and art from WWI. Don't miss it. All the photos on the coffee mugs in the store were gleaned here. Hauksbee 103 Posted April 28, 2009 (edited) Yes, I knew the Early Aviator site. Also google for: Vintage Aviator (I forgot the correct adress). Great site. And easy to find. It's http://thevintageaviator.co.nz. I got it on the first try. Found the following photo...a variation on my favorite poster.
