Who else uses the "review" of mission?

Recommended Posts

Just had a 'wonderful' air combat north of Reims. Our flight of 4 Albatros DIII (early)

was engaged by

1. three fighters - 1 SPAD VII and two Nieuport 17 from Esc.80

and when we where all turning, they where joined by

2. six Nieuport 17 from Esc.80

and I'm sure, a third flight turned up, of

3. four more Nupe 17

It was impossible for me to really watch and count kills, as I was turning like mad.

But I 'felt', it should be at least five downed by my fire, before I had to land behind a forrest.

So I claimed five and was asthonished, not to get an "errenous" (I was the last German flyer).

Now I watched the "review" and found: I had actually shot down 7 enemy craft!

But also, I read with some surprise, that I made many of my hits at a distance

between 450 - 800 feet! (My range was actually between 150 - 880 feet).

My average bursts seemed to be 30 rounds.

I found all this quite interesting - next time I'll write the rounds and distances down, to caculate

my average dist. and amount of rounds fired. Perhaps I'll write these averages into claim reports.

I use it all the time Olham. It's a great learning tool and quite enlightening.

Cheers!

Lou

Would someone remind me to not go online and fight when Olham is in the air?

Olham, perhaps you need to distinctly mark your aircraft so we know to avoid combat with you, much like Erich Hartmann and his "Black Tulip" marking.

Well, you see, that's just unfair. If they are indivdually and dinstinctively marked, you shouldn't let others use them! How do we know it is you, or just someone who admires your great skin work?

Sigh!

I suppose we shall all just have to take pot luck. If we encounter the pair flying together, I'll take Herr Rittmeister, someone else can take on Herr Olham.

Olham, that was a mighty fine effort! Keep up the good work!

Steve - this way I protect other German pilots. If you don't dare to attack a craft with my skin,

others may not, either.

And the Rittmeister - I have so far only had three f(l)ights together with him.

In both cases, no enemy craft returned home.

So if you see us - best you can do is turn 180° round and give full throttle (Lol!)

Erich Hartmann also was wise enough to use that "ploy" as well. He would "lend" his "black tulip" to a rookie pilot in the hopes of keeping him alive.
