OT: Downtown (Vietnam wargame)

Recommended Posts

Well one of the things that attracts me to WoV is the ability to create missions.

"Downtown" is an interesting war boardgame that attempts to simulate air operations during Linebacker.

I am having fun looking it over and planning to recreate some missions in WoV

Yes I thought maybe this should be posted somewhere else but my focus is WoV so I haven't read many of the other threads

Yes it is all down-loadable

There are two different virtual boardgame softwares, Vassal and Cyberboard

There is a module for "Downtown" made for both

Here is the vassal website Vassal "Downtown" game board

You are farther ahead than me Viper ha ha. I have been reading history books on Linebacker so I haven't read all the rules yet.

I will look around to see if I can find more cards

Here is the GMT magazine download section

If you want the aircraft card you have to buy the game. The game itself is not downloadable. The VASSAL and Cyberboard modules are, and are meant to allow people who LEGITIMATELY owns the game to play via those PBEM applications. The game is reasonably priced so...

Yes, I agree!! It seems to be a "Great" game and well worth the price.

I hadn't been aware that all parts were not downloadable.

Even the map in Cyberboard and Vassal is graphically great to look at!

The map has been done using the actual game map (that once unfold on the table is simply awesome...). Also check the various scenario... in one you have even a 120 planes B52 raid... scaaaaary

One of my favorite games (Ok I am biased I was a playtester) and if you need a middle east fix... look forward to "Elusive Victory: air war over Suez" going out this month! Same system, new scenarios, Mirage and more! (1967 to 1973).

In the borad game world. These electronic versions should only be played by people who own the real board game. Playing the Vassal version without owning the game is tantamount to piracy.

That's why some essential stuff are missing to prevent from these kinds of things happening.

It's out of stock now

Speaking of Vietnam Air War games, you can also look at this.

http://www.dvg.com/.sc/ms/dd/Pre-Order%20G...hantom%20Leader

It's solitaire, simple to play, and has lots of replay factor.

Still on pre-order.

Waiting for about 60 more orders before printing.
