Mission vs fuel capacity

I notice when that at times I will be offred a mission to fly that has a round trip mileage that exceeds my fuel capacity even at 100%. I know that i can use the "start in air" to overcome this issue, but just wondering if devs are aware of it.

Most of those missions that would exceed the fuel capacity for any given aircraft are patrols behind friendly lines. If you look at the pre-flight map, and it has waypoints zig-zagging across the entire front, back and forth, sometimes crossing No Man's land, back again, left here, 100 mile diversion to there etc. you DO have the choice of accepting or rejecting that mission. I tend to accept all missions, even the deadly and often suicidal "scramble" because I see it as "my duty". Granted, in real life, these missions were not assigned, and realistically, you could decline them.

 

I fly them anyway, warping around and keeping my eyes on my fuel guage. When you get to about 20% capacity, I'd turn for home and navigate manually back to base, or select next waypoint etc until you are heading home.

Hi there: In fact the British did attack German bases, Jasta 12 at Markebeeke being an example in April 1918. Damage, 5 flight personel killed, 6 wounded, 4 planes destroyed, 6 damaged. There were several during this perios as the British were ramping up the 5th and 1st Army operation. The Germans did get aircraft up, to chase them off.

Good advice to save some fuel. I haven't run out ever, when going to max fuel load, but have run dry flying the DVII, which is a glutton for fuel.
