Squiffy Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Hi gang, I've looked through the KB and this information is pretty scarce. I want some help adjusting ingame performance after evaluating the FM and finding everything "by the numbers" for the most part. In my particular example, the B-58A, the main numbers look good but the performance does not match. I first tried increasing thrust on the engine to get her up to supersonic performance if not more. It helped a little but still would barely break 600 without overheating the engines. I increases the thrust to something like 70K dry, 90K wet for ridiculous go fast power. It still doesn't pan out even over 20K alt. Then I looked at drag coefficients. I tried cutting those in half and then lost any stick input. Just flew straight and level. Throttle worked great. I might have actually broke 700 finally too. So I need help. Should I stick with the Cd edits but par them down some. I noticed the engine pods have no drag data at all! Thanks Quote
+Fubar512 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 600 KIAS at 20,000 feet is about Mach 1.4. Most supersonic aircraft do not achieve their potential Vmax until they're well above 30-35,000 feet. Quote
+FastCargo Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 People need to understand the difference between KIAS/KCAS and KTAS/GS and how they relate to Mach. FC 1 Quote
+Fubar512 Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 Tell you what, Squiffy. Send me the unmodded B-58A flight model, and I'll edit the engine altitude tables for its J-79s, to match data that was calaculated by Streakeagle. I'll highlight the changes, for your benefit. Quote
Squiffy Posted December 2, 2009 Author Posted December 2, 2009 Thanks Fubar, and sorry FC. I was too lazy or maybe tired, to get up over 30,000 feet. I was tweaking the nav lights afterall. There's one on the top front of the tail and one on the back right below the tail gun radar pod. You can see these clearly in the "Fail-Safe" footage, and on the Monogram mode and in the photos. ; ) I'm not sure about under the TCB pod. Very cool all the same. Props to the model crew. Quote
+Fubar512 Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 (edited) Sent you the edited FM. Achieved 587 KIAS, at 40,000 ft BALT, which equates to about 1150+ KTAS at SL. That was clean, sans pod. Hustler.wmv Edited December 2, 2009 by Fubar512 Attached Video Quote
Squiffy Posted December 4, 2009 Author Posted December 4, 2009 Awesome! Thanks Fubar. I have another confession to make...I am a BONEHEAD! Can you say "hard" flight model? (FC I'm sure this was a big part of the problem) Duh, I forgot I had turned it down last week. I also trimmed the Cd's again but this time only by a couple 100ths or so. I'll go set them back and fly properly on hard fm. She sure is sweet when you get up to speed. I was trimming out the cockpit too. I downloaded an F-4B early type, but that cockpit uses F-4J parts. Anyway, I like the way mine looks now, especially with the F-104 seat and the red headrest. It's not an escape pod but a nice compromise. Here's a screenie: _ Quote
