Ok, I got this game for easter (2009),

I haven't played it for 2 months now, but I iked it a lot.

Now, I wanted to start it up again, and there was an error message, this is precisely what I did:

-I successfully loaded OFF

-I started quick combat, for a routine test

-suddenly everything stopped and a small window appeared saying:" Error updating Config Overrides settings -File does not exist- Reinstall OFF! "

-I reinstall OFF from the CFS 3 I already installed and tried again

-Same thing happens, all discs, OFF, CFS 3 1 and 2

-Nothing happens

Please help otherwise I might have to commit suicide... :P

Regards,

V.A.

I have tried all sorts of things based on the advice from this forum. None have worked on Windows7 64 bit. I get VonAce's error, I get the homefield error, I get the my configuration file is out of date error, I get the xml file error,For some reason OFF identifies itself as version 1.42, I thought it was version 1.32g, and on and on. I have set all the exe files to administrator, I have tried numerous compatibility mode settings in Windows 7. In Windows XP I get the configuration file is out of date error as well, I am primarily trying to get it to run in Windows7, I did check WindowsXP once and got the configuration out of date error. I did get version 1.0 to run once on XP but never have be successful after the super patch+minipatch in either operating system (Windows 7 or Windows XP). I have cleared my system of all OFF registry settings and files then reinstalled (three times). It just gave me more errors. This is a pretty frustrating piece of software. I must be missing something real basic here. The frustrating thing is other members say it works flawlessly in Windows 7 64 bit. As for running the cfs3 config again fix, well I have probably run that file 50 times by now with no effect.

CFS3 does work fine on my system. I checked it before installing OFF just to make sure it was not hanging or do something strange. If some one out there in the great world of OFF Heaven and Hell has run into all these miserable problems like I have and fixed it I would greatly appreciate the help.

When installing the game Doc, did you update CFS3 to version 3.1? I only ask as I did not see that in your description. I forgot to update it like that, and it caused all kinds of goofy things.

I'm not sure if Windows 7 has this or not, as I'm still on Vista x64 Home Premium.

After you install the game, and before you try to fire it up,

1 Go to "My Computer" right click, then click on Properties.

2 To the left of the window that opens should have list of things to click on. The one you want will be Advanced System Settings

3 A System Properties window should open with some tabs across the top. The one you will want is the Advanced tab

4 There should be a few choices under the Advanced tab, and a "Settings" button for each. The one you will want is under Performance.

5 A new window should open with 3 tabs Visual Effects, Advanced, and Data Execution Prevention. And under the "DEP" tab, make sure it is set to "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select"

6 There should be a couple buttons, one is Add and the other is Remove. Click the Add Button, and navigate to your OFF.exe file and add it to the list. The same for the CFS3 config.exe

To make things easier, I renamed the CFS3config.exe to OFFconfig.exe as I kept getting confused as to which one was which.

Also, don't for get to fire up CFS3 once before adding OFF! I can't remember if you need to fly around once before installing OFF or if you can load OFF, and then fire up CFS3. But I always run CFS3 once before I load OFF.

Hope this helps!

P.S.,

The DEP issue is because the old Phase 2 used to give a goofy Active X warning, and that seemed to cure it, as I haven't seen it since.

Thanks for your responses(sitting_duck and Conrad B)

Yes I updated the game to version 3.1 and I am running it in English. I did fly a quick combat mission in CFS3 before installing OFF just to make sure it worked. I tried the DEP suggestions, but I still got the can't save the xml file error please reinstall OFF. CFS3 works great, So I uninstalled OFF and will reinstall when I have time and try your suggestions on a fresh install.
