Have any of you tried running OFF 3 on both OSes and what was the result? Does OFF P3 run smoother in XP than 7 or is it the other way around?

I have tried on both (dual booting with two hard drives)

I voted XP...only because, I can't see much difference between them...and XP has had it on longer...just my penneth worth

You didn't mention Vista - maybe due to it's bad reputation?

Well, I am flying OFF BHaH on a Vista system and on an XP system,

and they are both doing very well. No problems at all yet.

(OT: only funny thing is, that the KASPERSKI SECURITY on the Vista rig keeps

complaining when it detects the TrackIR 5 Pro. But I just ingnore it).

Win7-64 bit - Works brilliantly for me and it's ability to deal with huge amounts of RAM means that I can use my 4870x2 Graphics card (2 gig of graphics memory) plus still use my full 4gig system ram for my other apps.

I have all OFF/HITR graphics settings maxed out and it's still damn smooth even on my middle of the range CPU (Q6600@2.4Ghz).

Gotta say - Microsoft finally got it right here. Win7 ain't perfect (After 5 months of use I have started to spot some weaknesses) but a hell of a lot better than the Win Vista I used before.

I was never happy with Vista (and kept a separate XP machine as my secondary game rig) but Win7 has really impressed me and I haven't looked back to XP.

To be honest though - if I stuck my graphics card into an XP machine..I'm sure the performance would be equally good...the only downside being that I couldn't use all my ram for other apps.

I also have to admit that Win7 is the first time I tried a 64bit OS.

Slightly off topic but - On a pure OS point of view I rate Win7 tops, XP second and Vista last.

Happy flying,

Max

I voted Win7 64bit and not Win732bit, because it seems to be running slighty better on my 64 bit partition. But it's hard to say, after all that installation doesn't even have a AV. So it's a clean install. But no doubt Win7 wins over XP.

Thanks everyone for all your responses. It appears Windows 7 64 bit is the front runner as everyone's favorite. My concern is trying to run older games under 64 bit. I don't know if they'll work with my ATI 64 bit drivers. So I maybe forced to go with Windows 7 32but instead.

p.s. As for not listing Vista. As a previous member eluded to, yeah I dod not list it because of it's perceived reputation. I personally thought the OS was garbage out of the gate even though it sure did look pretty. So it was love hate with Vista for me. I do admit it got a lot better with the subsequent patches but by that time I was eagerly anticipating Windows 7. Even though Windows 7 is built on Vista, Microsoft to their credit listened to it's customers and got sooooooo much right with the OS.

I've been involved with computers since the early 80's and my favorite Microsoft OSes to date are MS-DOS 5.0, MS-DOS 6.22, Windows 95, Windows XP and now Windows 7. :bye:

Oh and here are my specs my bad:

E6750 CPU

250GB HDD, 400GB HDD and 500GB HDD

4 GB of RAM

ATI 4670 1GB video ram 128 bit interface

I have Win XP and Win 7 Ultimate 64. The only problem I have with 7 is that my joystick only rolls to the left. As this is rather a problem, I use XP for OFF. But Win 7 seems to work well apart from that. Maybe if I get a new joystick with drivers for Win 7 all will be ok. Also my camera only shows me upside down, but I can always turn the thing upside down to fix this problem

Hi Jim - That "joystick only rolls to the left" problem is pretty weird.

What kind of joystick do you have?
