Olham 164 Posted February 8, 2010 (edited) Don't know about Cornwall, Portugal, Greece or South Africa, but here in Berlin, the winter is holding life in an icecold grip. All that is generally covered by a German Luftwaffe-light grey sky - argghhh! But why not have a break from this? Why not fly in the sun? Do you want the mountains in Alsace in spring? Or the north sea shores in golden summer? Perhaps a base in a really nice surrounding? No problem! Just take the time to find a squadron, that fits the area you want to fly in. In the "enlist a new pilot" menue, you can now advance the time, until you are in spring or summer. Now remember the first possible date, but advance a bit more, just to make sure, they'll stay there for some time. Then go back in time to the desired start period and enlist your pilot. Once on the field, make a test flight. If you don't like the area around you, just repeat the procedure elsewhere. YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE (BEAUTYWISE): I would like to know your personal most beautiful airfield, where you like the field itself, and the surrounding landscape best. My favourites are (so far - don't know all fields yet): La Selve (Jasta 15) and Bantheville (Jasta 21) Edited February 8, 2010 by Olham
RAF_Louvert 101 Posted February 8, 2010 . Plenty of snow and ice here in the midwest as well, another six inches fell last night and we have four more on the way today, with wind of course. Olham, I did exactly that yesterday morning. Closed the shades in my computer room so as not to see the white stuff, started a campaign with 88 RFC flying Brisfits along the coast, moved the date ahead until I got out of the rain, and flew in sunny weather up and down the coast of Belgium for hours shooting down Alb DV's and Pfalz DIII's. At one point I landed on the beach and just sat and looked at the scenery. As to my favorite base to fly from; any of those way down at the far south end of the Alsace. It's absolutely B-E-A-U-tiful there. Cheers! Lou .
Olham 164 Posted February 8, 2010 Always thought, you don't know winter cold at all down in Florida, uncleal ? What the temperature there now? Alsace I have yet to learn to know, Lou - any specific airfield name for me?
RAF_Louvert 101 Posted February 8, 2010 . Olham, not really sure Sir on specific airfields, but if you start a new pilot and look through the 1915 jastas you should find several that are based at the far southern region of the Alsace. Once you do, sign up and go on a cook's tour southeast from your home field and enjoy the views. Also, it is a real challenge to fight with those early war kites down in those deep valleys. . Olham 164 Posted February 8, 2010 Think you measure in Fahrenheit? So 43° F would still be + 5° Celsius, I assume. Should be okay - Bullethead said something about wearing three pairs of woolen socks! Should it be colder in Lousy Anna? Have you been in Viet Nam, if I may ask? ConradB 0 Posted February 8, 2010 Thanks for the warmth there Olham! Only thing is, I can't troll for pike muskie and bass from my Albatros DVa.
RAF_Louvert 101 Posted February 8, 2010 . Well, actually, you could troll for them from your DVa Conrad. They'll just have to be very, very fast fish to hit the bait. .
Olham 164 Posted February 8, 2010 Someone here - was it Hasse Wind or Zoomzoom? - tried a water-landing with his Albatros, and wrote, that the wheels sunk in, but the fuselage was afloat like a canoe. Peferct to go for carps, pikes or bass! With an Albatros, you can get any prey!

Olham 164 Posted February 8, 2010 I see, uncleal - maybe, that gives me an impression, why you sometimes "sound" a bit hardboiled... I only "know" Nam from the films "Deer Hunter", "Platoon" and "Apocalypse Now!" When I saw them, I was glad, I was not born on 4th of July, in the U.S.A. ... Good you made it back! Is that one of our OFF Albatros, Lou, or how did you make that?
Burning Beard 14 Posted February 8, 2010 You can't judge the Viet Nam experience by those movies. Vastly dramatized by our friends in Hollywood. Beard

And oh the wonders I can perform with my little old Adobe Photo Deluxe BE program. .
