don246 65 Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) Now guys im not asking for you to sort this out just has any one any idea where to have a look. From time to time my install of FE and it has so many mods added. When it gets to the end of loading a mission the game will close down with the message pop up Sorry Microsoft has to close the game, also on the odd time it will crash with the BSOD and the computer reboots on it's own with no input from me. Now this follows no set pattern it has been happening over a long time I can go for months with no problem them it seems to come all of a sudden, the one thing I did check was the sound files were all 16 bit I understand this can give problems. There is no way im going to reinstall all that I have I can not remember it any way I do have a back up of my game. I can live with it BUT would like to know what it may be so any one got any ideas and do's any one have this problem the game is up to date with all updates and adons with Jans wonderful new terrain it now whighs in at 7.46 GB. +peter01 2 Posted February 14, 2010 (edited) When it gets to the end of loading a mission the game will close down with the message pop up Sorry Microsoft has to close the game Your case may be different Don, but ... this has happened to me. One reason is an error in the FM, something incorrectly defined or missing. A mismatch between the model and the data.ini. And once identified and fixed it is okay. Is it the same planes? It also happened a long time ago for a different reason, until I fixed it. I think it was due to something in the "Graphics Settings", couldn't handle highly detailed skins or models. Sorry can't remember which variable, but below are my current settings that work fine: [GraphicsSettings] ZBufferDepth=24 MaxVertexCount=16384 MaxIndexCount=32768 MaxTextureCount=8192 MaxModelType=2048 MaxMeshPerScene=4096 MaxModelPerScene=4096 MaxLightPerScene=256 AspectRatio=1.333333 MinPixelSize=1.0 In the flightengine.ini file in the Flight folder. don246 65 Posted February 14, 2010 Thanks for the reply Peter I did notice the N17 gave me some trouble I will take a look at my settings I have a feeling it is graphic related. I have all the WW1 sims you could name (FE is at the top of my list for fun) and I have no problems my PC is stable. I will try and keep a record of what happens in future thanks again. don246 65 Posted February 14, 2010 Peter I took a look in the Flightengine and under Graphicssettings this is what I have. [GraphicsSettings] ZBufferDepth=24 MaxVertexCount=16384 MaxIndexCount=32768 MaxTextureCount=8192 //MaxModelType=2048 //MaxMeshPerScene=4096 //MaxModelPerScene=4096 //Stary's suggestions>>> MaxModelType=4096 MaxMeshPerScene=8192 MaxModelPerScene=8192 MaxLightPerScene=256 AspectRatio=1.333333 MinPixelSize=1.0 The next entry is for [FarSceneClip] Will do a back of my flightengine and try your setting. +peter01 2 Posted February 24, 2010 Hey Don, how'd it go? I started experiencing the same problems you had, again too. I increased the values in the flightengine.ini file to what you had (at stary's suggestion), and it improved it. But not entirely. So I doubled them again. So far no problems, looking good. This setting is definitely the problem, and terrain seems to have an effect ... I didn't have these issues for over two years until I installed Jan's excellent terrain. Bandy 3 Posted March 2, 2010 ... the game is up to date with all updates and adons with Jans wonderful new terrain it now weighs in at 7.46 GB. Yes, FE is getting to be a porker isn't it? I got rid of a lot of skins that I just never use, including many early ones that just don't look good compared to the more recent efforts. In poking around inside Jan's new 'Seasonal Tile' and the various Terrain folders, I noticed Jan left behind a large 'backup' folder. I removed them all to desktop and the sim has no issue with this. Get rid of them, they are composed of old files anyways. Also noticed that there is A LOT of duplication of tile files between the seasons and the terrain folders, for example the FRTown tiles are repeated in each folder but they do not change except for the winter version. Now, I do understand why Jan did this, because if a tile is missing it causes some bizarre visuals at that tile location in game that are hard to trouble shoot. It would be a bit of a pain to track down all the unnecessary duplicates and eliminate them, but I think it would result in a savings on HD real estate if interested. Just an observation... Sorry I cant be more helpful.
