devere 6 Posted March 8, 2010 Is there any way to unlock the camera angles using TIR in FEG? not being able to see directly behind and only about 45 degrees above the wing means I lose sight of EA pretty quickly and also end up being shot by planes I can never see. I feel like I have better rear vision in il2 even though there I'm sitting in an enclosed cockpit! I have bound the rear view to my hat switch, but its still such a limited view its useless in a fast turning dogfight. Also having some sound issues relating to other aircraft firing their guns. If any aircraft within about mile fires their weapons, it sounds like they are sat in the plane with me. I often find myself breaking hard thinking there is an EA firing on my six only to find they are quite distant and firing at another allied craft. I have tried some of the sound mods from this site and whilst they sound a lot better it still makes no difference regarding the relative firing volume. Final issue - according to the manual, instant action should pick me a random engagement in a random aircraft. All I get is the spad, summer time about 12pm. Every single time. It has never changed once - is there some setting I need to change somewhere? Being still on XP and DX9, would I see any benefits in buying FE2? Thanks in advance for any help rendered. D. +peter01 2 Posted March 8, 2010 (edited) Can't do much about Instant Action unless you mod some files, but it will still be pretty much the same over and over again. Stick to "Create Missions" - heaps of variety there, and select "Near Target" in "Gameplay" options if you want instant action. FE2? It is better even on WinXP-DX9, but it requires some knowledge of modding to use third party addons like planes and FMs (not terrains however, which which make a big difference). So to a certain extent it depends if you understand how FE works, familiar with where things go etc, or willing to learn .... unless you just play the stock game with enhanced terrains, and then I'd recommend FE2. Are you using addon gun sounds? Sounds are quite tricky to do well/properly for FE. Haven't heard of the problem your having before myself so can't really help. You need to mod the cockpit.ini files to pan more. They have things like: MaxYaw=148 MinYaw=-148 MaxPitch=90 MinPitchFront=-70 MinPitchRear=-60 So to pan to the rear ... MaxYaw=180 MinYaw=-180 ... to pan 180 degrees rearwards, or more or less to suit yourself. You need to modify the file for each plane, each cockpit is defined for the one plane. Someone was asking recently about why you would want to extract files - this is one of the reasons. Edited March 8, 2010 by peter01
devere 6 Posted March 9, 2010 Cheers for the heads up on the create missions - mad dogfighting fun from the getgo, but now in different aircraft than the spad :) Turns out it was the sound files I added, so have reverted to stock. Tbh their not bad sounds, just fancied something a little crisper. Now regards the cockpit.ini I take they are the ones I found in the .cat files using the sfp1e tool? If so when I have edited them do I need to add them to the objects folder or the actual aircraft folder, or do I somehow need to recompile the .cat? Sorry but I'm a bit n00b with all this - taken me 2 days of lurking here and at thirdwire forums to get this far. I'm fairly happy with basic config files but that's about my limit. Which means I will prolly buy FE2 and just go for the terrain mods, unless you could link me a few good forum posts about adding the extra's? Unless I can have FEG and FE2 installed at the same time - I currently use the landscape mods, sky and cloud mods, some extra aircraft and your flight models and still love playing this game as I'm not an out and out graphics junkie. Gameplay and fun are more deciding factors, which is why I fly FEG a lot more than RoF despite the obvious graphics differences. Thanks again for your help, you sir are a gentleman, D. +peter01 2 Posted March 10, 2010 (edited) Turns out it was the sound files I added, so have reverted to stock. Tbh their not bad sounds, just fancied something a little crisper. Many sound files work well - I have problems with some for engines, so don't install any engine mods, but highly recommend installing Buckys gun and wind sound mods. Now regards the cockpit.ini I take they are the ones I found in the .cat files using the sfp1e tool? If so when I have edited them do I need to add them to the objects folder or the actual aircraft folder, or do I somehow need to recompile the .cat? Yes, that tool, look at the OBJECTs .cat (there is more than one), extract the files you want, and these ones wil be extracted to your OBJECTS directory. In this case with cockpit.inis move the extracted files to the specific plane directories. You don't repack or recompile the .cat, it should stay the same. Extracted files if placed in the correct directory override anything in the .cat. That is the beauty of Thirdwires system - if you don't like the change to a file you have modded, delete it, and the game reverts back to what is in the .cat. devere 6 Posted March 11, 2010 Righto - pretty much all sorted! Tried the recommended sound files and now the game is a lot clearer, but with none of the original sound issues I had faced. Camera was a bit weird - I had to set both min and max yaw to 360, and I need to be zoomed back, but the awful blind spot is now gone. I upped vertical to 115 and that feels a lot more natural as well. Thanks to your excellent explanation peter01, and a forum at thirdwire, I finally took the plunge and sorted the Aldis sight out on the SE5a - always hated flying it because of that sight, but am now making up for lost time. Cheers for the help sir:drinks:
