Has anyone else realized that the stock aircraft configuration settings.ini files cant be altered in FE2. I've unpacked all files and placed them into my //User//Saved Games// objects/ aircraft/ folders and everything works just fine. I can alter DATA.ini, add skins and add-on aircraft but the sim wont let me alter the Config Settings for all stock aircraft. I changed the Shadow cast distance and the TextureSet positon to have custom skins at [001] position. but as soon as I start the game all is reverted back to default settings. What gives????? Does anyone know what's up with this? Is it just me, or is this the way TW programed FE2? Better not be!

Hi, Quack. I mentioned this problem over at Thirdwire, but the older hands seemed to assume I had done something wrong. You can temporarily fix this, however. Once you make your changes to the desired .ini, save it and close it, then choose properties by right clicking on the file and change its properties to read only and apply that. The game won't be able to alter or overwrite it, whichever is happening. Don't know what went balls up after the latest patch, but TK is aware of it, if he read my post at his forum. I know it's a pita to have to keep making it read only after changes, but the fix does work for me. Looks like another patch is in order....
