MikeDixonUK Posted January 4, 2011 Posted January 4, 2011 Apologies if this has been posted, I haven't seen it here anyway. SimHQ has published a discussion together with some simulation developers about the future of, well - Simulations. The Future of Simulations Thought the topic might be of some interest, especially with a certain participant being from 'round these parts.'
Javito1986 Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 The question of copy protection is a good one. I think the obvious solution is to go the Good Old Games route, who've done a terrific job with the DRM-free model and continue to do so. But even with that you'll never stop all piracy since there's always people who just don't get it, usually teenagers who don't have money to buy anything but want to play everything regardless.
+Olham Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 (edited) I hope, that there will be always enough people with enough honesty, who will buy a good sim, even though they might be able to steal it. I could not bring myself to steal something like OFF - it is so obviously a product of so much love and devotion; and countless hours invested, that it is already rather a "give-away" than a buy for that little money. How could you steal this from these guys and still face yourself in a mirror? Edited January 5, 2011 by Olham
smilingmonkey Posted January 5, 2011 Posted January 5, 2011 Agreed Olham... It simply comes down to supporting the people who do the work to bring fine products... If they stop doing it what will we have? I am against piracy of all sorts, except in the movies...then I am all for it. I found the subject of micro transactions to be an interesting one...I personally feel that a basic game relaese, and then well supported with patches (free), and extra vehicles, aircraft etc for a small fee could be the way of the future.. But, the initial release has to be good enough as a stand alone product... I could imagine a bit of an arguement against the trend as wll though...I think it would all come down to the ethics of the developers and their business partners in the long run.
