Fixed the problem, but.....

Recommended Posts

I had BH&H on this machine for a while and decided to upgrade it to HitR. I already had the download but couldn't get the installer to work. I had a backup copy and that wouldn't work either. They weren't clickable. Went back to square one and reinstalled BH&H, which went fine. Still couldn't get HitR to install. I had kept the HitR files on a CD...in fact two discs. Neither worked. Transferred the file to a flash drive. Nada. About now I should say, I'm trying to install to an XP Pro 64 bit machine. Could that be a factor? I thought naught. After all, BH&H installed from disk just fine. I decided I had been frustrated enough and copied the OBD folder from another machine where HitkR was working in XP 32 bit . I deleted the files in the OBD folder in the stubborn 64 bit machine and replaced them with the newly copied files from the 32 bit machine. OFF is working fine now and upgraded to HitR also in the 64 bit machine. Anyone have a clue what I was doing wrong on the stubborn machine. It's an older ASUS SLI mobo with an Intell processor Core 2 Duo with 8 Gb's of RAM and 2 PNY video cards in SLI. The scenery is beautiful on a 40 inch Samsung LCD with sliders set at the high end. Thanx once again, fellars, for this wonderful sim.

Don't know what happened to your display, uncleal, but on mine, I chose the 16X9 picture size on the TV remote and the whole display is right up to the plastic frame all the way around. Haven't any black bars on any side or top or bottom.

This is just a guess Al, but did you by chance change the font size in the visual preference menu? If you did try changing to normal (100%) and see if you still have the black bands.

Uncleal, did you choose the 16X10 aspect ratio in the OFF workshop? That's what I'm using.

Al, I am running Windows 7 64, and the other day I thought I would goof around with the settings. When I did (going to about 115%) it screwed up the way the windows came up. One of the programs it didn't play nice with was OFF. I don't remember exactly were things were showing up as I have two monitors set up, one for just watching netflix while I'm surfing the net on the main monitor. All I know is some of my windows were bleeding off of my main monitor over to the small monitor/TV on the wall.

Al,I don't mean to suggest that you should go through the hassle of setting up the 40 inch with your PC again just for experimentation purposes, but I do have a theory for you. I've seen the exact same phenomenon you're describing on 3 or 4 occasions. In fact I experienced it yet again with the 42 inch monitor I'm using for OFF right now.  What solved it for me was adjusting the video scaling attributes. This is usually done at the driver level, but you may find scaling options buried somewhere deep (or not so deep) in the LCD's settings as well. Once you figure out the correct scaling setting or combination of settings between the LCD and your drivers, the problem should be solved. No guarantees, but it's worked for me every time.

Cheers,
