ValAstur Posted October 16, 2011 Posted October 16, 2011 After the "carnation revolution" in 1974 which led to the fall of the dictatorship in Portugal, the portuguese air force got reorganized like the rest of the country. Since Portugal became a democracy, the western allies supported the change in offering the FAP the Phantom for a good price. The 301st squadron received the Dragão, the portuguese Draken, the 201st got equipped with the 'Fantasma'. Although being a fighter-squadron, the 201st reserved the groundattacking capabilities. The Phantom became part of the portuguese air force in 1974 and was taken out of service in 1999 in favour of the MiG-29EE. Quote
