Hauksbee 103 Posted January 20, 2014 Could someone direct me to the button that brings up training flights? Thanks.
Olham 164 Posted January 20, 2014 (edited) I only know the training, before you get assigned to your unit. You get there, when you select the nationality and all that. There is also a selection for either "pilot training before assignment" or "direct assignment; no training". Select the first, and you'll be fine, Hauksbee. You could also fly a "QuickFlight", and select "Free flight" there, with no opponents. Edited January 20, 2014 by Olham
Hauksbee 103 Posted January 21, 2014 Thanks, Olham. Second question: when enlisting pilots, there seems to be no choice of Squadron. Is there a way around this? ('seems there must be). I'd like to fly with McCudden on the day No.56 Squadron tangled with Voss. I'd like to be with Roy Brown on 21 April. But, how to get to these? . In addition, as several of you have encouraged me to not only start flying campaigns, but to try two-seaters, I have developed a desire to get into the Roland C.II. There is, unfortunately, a great dearth of information out there concerning C.II's, let alone which units were equipped with them. (I have an e-Bay bid in on a C.II book by Peter Grosz. I'll know by tomorrow evening if I've won the bid) But can anybody point me to records that will give me dates of service, and which units flew C.II's? Olham 164 Posted January 21, 2014 You need to click on "Enlist manually" (or similar) in the lower right corner. Then you can select squadrons and times, as it used to be in OFF. There you also get assigned, while you click through the date and time arrows, which aircraft the unit is flying right now. Proceed or go back, to hit the roland C.II - have fun! Hauksbee 103 Posted January 21, 2014 Thanks again, Olham. Being an old QC flyer, this is all new territory to me.
Olham 164 Posted January 21, 2014 No problem, Hauksbee - I'd gladly see you in a campaign. But mind you: it is very hard to survive a longer period of time.
JimAttrill 24 Posted February 1, 2014 I wanted to fly with 4 Sqn (my old squadron) but WOFF sent me to 2. After a couple of missions I applied for a transfer, which was allowed as both squadrons were operational at that time. I would not have been allowed to transfer to a squadron that did not exist at that time. This makes sense.
Olham 164 Posted February 2, 2014 Jim, the new pilot enlisment in WOFF is just great, as it would send you where the brass think you should be useful. But like so many here, you may have overlooked the "button" in the low right corner - something like "enlist manually". There you can select everything yourself, scroll through squadrons and time - as it was in OFF.
JimAttrill 24 Posted February 2, 2014 Yes, after my last pilot bit the dust I have manually engaged the next one in 4 Squadron. Just as an aside, the other pilot had an engine failure while miles away from the lines. I engaged autopilot (which is great in WOFF) and he was landing at another allied airfield when his engine burst into flames and that was the end of him and his observer. I think in future I will shut off the engine when it has a failure and do a 'dead stick' landing anywhere. Maybe it can't catch fire if it is not running...
