Outstanding Dogfight Video!

Recommended Posts

Very nice video. But, seriously? A WWII-style gunsight on an Albatros? What's next from RoF...guided lePrieur rockets? Maybe they can be canvas-seeking? Or guided by termites to home in on the wooden frames. Wouldn't be too useful against later Fokkers, what with their steel tubing, but it should make any Alb-jockey shudder.  wink2.gif.pagespeed.ce.DG-_ZgrqXc.gif

ROF refers to this as a Collimater Gunsight. Check out the link. When I first saw it I (not looking TOO closely) read it as an Aldis-type gunsight.

I stand corrected. A bit of research shows that they were used in operational trials not only on the Albatros DV, as in the video, but on the Fokker DrI as well. I wonder if the devs would consider adding this to WOFF.

Fighting in the Albatros D.V or D.Va in RoF is not easy online, vs human flyers.

The Alb is outdated and even undermodelled - the top speed is at least 10 km/h too slow, and it breaks to easily.

Your only chance against a good Camel jockey is: hit him first - and hard.

When you are shot up like this feller, you should find a landing area and then shut of the engine.

The oil spraying will stop and give you better vision.

He could have managed to land the craft, but he spoiled it IMHO.

My impression was (as the screens got redder and darker) was that he (the pilot) was probably bleeding to death.

Yes, sure, he was badly wounded.

I had that several times in RoF. But you could still try to land the craft, BEFORE you faint.

That's what Richthofen did 6 July, rather than try to make it back to Marckebeke. His type of wound only had a 10% mortality rate and he was never in danger of bleeding to death, but his consciousness was shaky. He initially tried to make it back but soon it became obvious he better land before he passed out and crashed.
