Turning off external visual designations WOV/WOE

Since the WOV_update0ct2008b patch, all aircraft when seen from exterior view- and many objects- show their call signs and designations. It can get a bit cluttered and takes away from immersion, in my opinion. Is there a key to press (toggle on/off) or an alteration to make somewhere to not have these show up?
