Trotski Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Yeah I live in Derby, so very close to RR , they have a Merlin testbed engine which is on show an run at public displays a lot. And I saw that balbo at flying legends a couple of years back, the RR Spit flys over quite often too, which is nice. Quote
+Olham Posted February 4, 2016 Author Posted February 4, 2016 I've been up there in Derbyshire in the 80s, Trotski. I remember a place called Birchover, north of Derby. There were huge "thunder stones" which the ancient druids had used to impress the crowd. And somewhere in the area was a cliff; a line of rocks, which was also well known there - but I forgot the name. And on another visit to England, I was standing on a high chalk hill near London, when I heard that distinct sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin or Gryphon come closer. A Spitfire on it's way to or from an airshow came passing our cliff, quite close. We waved, and the pilot waved back! A great, totally unexpected sensation! Quote
