F4U-4's onboard the USS Midway circa 1946

In March of 1946 the USS Midway and CVBG-74, composed of the following squadrons: VF-74, VBF-74, VT-74, VB-74 went north into Hudson bay and began to see if flight operations could successfully be carried out in an Artic climate. After one month a number of lessons were learned and saved for future operations in such places as off Korea during the Korean War and later on during the Cold War as US Navy Carriers began to push further and further into the Norwegian Sea for operations agains the USSR.
