  1. There I was in my Lightning F.1A in 1962 and was watching my firestreak streaking firely into another Il-28 Bang. But when the bomber broke up, I swear I saw something like a parachute emerging from it. I was too flabbergasted to take a screenshot, also I had the suspicion that I had installed an addon adding parachutes (Su-39s and Su-35s have them, AFAIK). But I just checked, I don't have a custom data.ini for the Il-28, just avionics, loadout and cockpit.inis to make it a rudimentary flyable. Did the latest expansion add parachutes?
  2. Yep, just looked into my effects folder and compared them with your pilots effect. :( Sorry for the false alert.
  3. I saw it again and this time I got a screenshot. It was a MiG-17 this time... It could be part of an effects pack I installed, I lost track of all the mods, but I surely didn't notice them before.
  4. I have installed exp. 2 on a heavily modded WOE only install (NATO fighters and all). Now I have two exes, one exp. pack, one normal, both seem to have changed yesterday. What do I need the seperate expansion pack executable for? Planes seem to be flyable in the default .exe as well, campaign was blocked by NATO fighters using the same name, but that can be fixed easily. Shall I just ignore it and continue to use my own install or shall I transfer everything to the expansion pack mod folder? Or do I need the expansion pack exe for multicore support etc?
  5. Might sound like a weird question, but is it possible to get the SF2:I addon planes to work in SF2:E without installing SF2:I first? I must admit 20 Euros is a bit steep for 3 planes, but I might do it. Can you somehow get the Planes out of the addon without SF2:I or does the Installer specifically seek out SF2:I? I want the Meteor and the Vampire etc for a 1953 Euro campaign, and I see no other way. Or is there any freeware Meteor that I'm not aware of?
  6. Tu-26 was a misnomer in western literature. It is a totally different aircraft, the Tu-22M designation was a trick tupolev pulled to sell a new design as a modernized version of an existing one. Similar to the F/A-18E Super Hornet, only with even less commonality.. :) Great aircraft, and generally SF2 compatible as weapons are in the weapons pack. However, you have to rename the weapons in the loadout files and I can't get the new MERs to show up.
  7. Hi I managed to install the Bering straits terrain with SF2, but the "long cold winter 1957" campaign for it seems to have gone. There are screens for it, but no file. Any specific reason it got lost? And are there other Bering campaigns except for DBS 72?
  8. Lol how come in Third Wire sims you always end up modding stuff when you actually just want to fly? :D I could give it a shot, but my modding knowledge is limited at best.
  9. Polen am Bau!

Don't worry, it is really positive :) It compares hard working polish construction workers to lazy overpaid german plumbers...
  10. Hi, I tried to create an east german and polish side in the 1986 NATO fighters campaign. All I did was take over the NATO fighters campaign_data.ini squadrons and made them flyable. This worked for the soviet side, but instead of east germans or polish squadrons I get soviet. What did I do wrong? 11. I can't even properly install HAWK sites :( Only the EWR shows up, the launcher and guidance radars don't. Any idea why?
  12. That did it, thanks a lot Now I only need to figure out how to add HAWK sites...
  13. I made a small mod to fly arab campaigns in WOI, for a challenge. Problem is, the MiG-21s always get a ground attack mission first, no matter wether in 1967 or 1973. I thought this was campaign specific, but it seems it is plane specific, as with MiG-17s I get intercepts first, even if I configured them largely to be ground attacking units. I couldn't find anything in the data.ini files which point to the problem, so any ideas? After the first mission everything works fine, though
  14. I think a real MiG-25 cockpit would be more necessary.
  15. Ok, a german poster did the same recently, and he wrote in such a teenage slang that the older german board members had problems as well:D But regarding your campaign proposal, "Wings over Poland" doesn't quite cut it I suggest "War of the Potatoes" :P :D
  16. I installed Pasko's SAM pack and the modified Israel terrain (forgot who the author is), so now there are a lot of Chapparals and Strelas and so. Problem is, they never seem to engage anything. Missiles show up on the launchers, so it isnt that. I tried setting even the early Chapparals to all-aspect and I think I got one launch sofar, but that apparently didn't guide, as it didn't show up in the mission log. Another Problem is that many SAMs seem to blow up on launch or directly after launch, especially with HAWK and Osa-M (SA-8).
  17. Good post. Setting up the FOV for the seeker head really did the trick for the Strela and the Chapparal. Problem is, the AI fires strelas totally out of parameter and the SA-9 doesn't seem to show up at all :( The problem with the Osa-M/SA-8 was the booster motor. It always seemed to me the missiles had problems getting airborne and stalled into the ground so I looked. The booster motor only accelerated with 2.7 G, most other soviet sams had ten times that value. So I increased it and got blasted out of the sky by one....
  18. Third Season with TK sims? Simple: Episode 1: - "Carnage over Dhimar" - strap into the cockpit with 2nd Lt. Ace Pilot as he tries to destroy the Comn building at Dhimari. In his next mission, he was sent to do something even more dangerous: destroy the Comn building at Parani! Any other episode titles? :D
  19. I said IR SAMs. HAWKs work just fine, except for the blowing up problem
  20. That's exactly the problem I set the strike chances to zero and they still fly strikes.
  21. I couldn't care less about mirrors, it was just some general things I noticed. But as an academic you should know that it is imperative for good work to use the most up-to-date and reliable sources, no matter wether they show a mirror or not. It is just that it seemed to me you gave to much credence to a single source, while ignoring others readily available.
  22. We really need a MiG-15/17 pit and it is great somebody is making one. However, the whole "communist" thing seems to be a bit overblown here. Engineers are engineers first, and communists/capitalists/fascists/whatever second. While totalitarian regimes do have some influence, it usually does not extend into engineering decisions, as long as they work. Especially since Mikoyan and Gurevich were born before the revolution. Also, an Armenian and a Jew is not exactly the most cliche' "evile empire" constructor team either. Also, the 1950s book of a defector might not be the best primary source now that we have access to russian sources. Defectors usually tell their new masters exactly what they want to hear, no matter from which side they defect to which. Especially since 90% of the material about that defecting MiG turned out to be rubbish, like Chuck Yeager's statements. Far better material can be found online and in publications now, and the web gives us even access to people who flew these planes operationally.
  23. While R-27s were test fired and sometimes carried, I've never heard about R-80s. Certainly, QRA was only flown with R-73s. The only MiG-29 left in Germany on display in the Gatow Luftwaffe museum carries 4 R-73s and 2 R-27s, but I'm not sure wether those are training rounds or deactivated war shots. As I said, certain items like IRST, the whole datalink feature and some radar modes were deactivated, I'm not sure if at the insistence of the Soviets or because the Bundeswehr simply likes reducing capabilities. Anyway, former GDR officers accused the Luftwaffe of essentially "crippling" the aircraft. For a cripple, they surely kicked a lot of ass.. The only german Fulcrum lost was lost to a former west german officer basically ignoring every advice and putting the MiG into an involuntary low altitude flat spin, leaving him no option but to punch out. A few weeks ago, the last active GDR trained pilot made his last duty flight, but with the hungarian air force, where he was seconded as an instructor. Incidendally, he made his last flight in an ex LSK L-39.
