About meeware

  1. Just a couple of things I've noticed since the patch, and was wondering if anyone else has observed these (or else I may just be being paranoid/ clumsy): (I'm using the 1984 vietnam mod, and I think I've updated the planes to use the weapons pack, but still need to do more, the soviet/north vietnam ones in particular. If I get around to doing all those in the next week I'd like to post a mod update pack to the forum files area, would that be useful/appropriate?) The AV-8C flight model seems to have become a bit 'twitchier'. Leaving controlled flight and entering a nose up spin is now an absolute cert in any tight turn, and seeing as I'm getting bouced a fair bit, those are happening! I never really took the harier for a dog fighter at all, but I'm seeing a lot more of these departures than before. Thankfully, as long as I notice it's happening while I'm within a 30 degree AOA and 10k of airspace, I seem to find them recoverable, but if I see the ground appearing where the sea was at any rate of knots, it's time to punch out! SAMs seem to have a far better envelope- twice now I've seen them come snaking over the paddy feilds, zip past behind the whole squadron, then turn around and swat a wingman. Looks like a wake chaser torpedo! Is this normal? Is this realistic!? can a SAM really come past a tartget, and then turn back to get it from the other side? the range was about 10nm, altitude about 7k, and the missile had a slight downward tradgectory on t's first pass, so I guess the KE situation was pretty good for it, and was tail chasing so our angular transit was reducing, but still and all! Anyway these aren't complaints, just observations. I actually think that I'm enjoying the game more than I have for a while. Any day now I'll patch SFP and rebuild DBS. One instal at a time though eh! p.s. apologies if this was in a sticky!
  2. Regular defragging can also help eek out the life of a flakey drive. If you've got maxtor now, and can't afford to upgrade just yet, spending a little time and effort on good housekeeping may be worth the while.
  3. At the time the Iranians bankrolled Grumman for a fair old wedge- a very VERY large commercial loan that a struggling aircraft manf really needed. Remember who was running the show at the time- the wests number 1 best buddy in the middle east. Thing to bear in mind with the mid east, when you ask who's side they are on, it's theirs. And that goes for everyone out there.
  4. I got a similar effect too. I then restarted it and deliberately fluffed some earlier missions, and the whole thing is far more interesting then- replusing landing forces etc. I'd put this down as a gameplay structure bug, but it's not horrendous.
  5. The penny drops. Can't recall exactly where mine was from (probably where ever the campaign pointed me too) but it's a zip file, not a 7z, and only has the two iraqi skins. Cheers for the pointers chaps, most helpfull. By all means plug away Whiteknight, no point hiding such a talent under a bushell. This is a real boon, there is something so 'agricultural' yet right about the Fitter- it's got a similar poise to the tomcat in someways- I know a lot of folk might take umbridge at that, but they're both of that ilk of 'plane that just 'look right', y'know. Obviously in completely different ways, but they've both 'got it'.
  6. In the download that the campaign pointed to (and I haven't found another anywhere) there is only iraq and iraqc texture sets- both are desert camo. I think the download is off armour dave's site- is there another one with alternative skins anywhere?
  7. Playing and loving baring straights, but all the su 17s are hurtling around with Iraqi paint jobs at the moment. Has anyone got a soviet skin for the SU 17M? Bare metal or grey would be the most appropriate I suppose. I would have asked on another forum where I think this campaign is more closely covered, but I have stuffed up my login and can't post there.
  8. When you download an aircraft from a site like Ace COmbat (there are others too!) you'll almost always get a single file, which typically ends with '.rar' or '.zip' or '.7z', or perhaps even '.exe' . These are archive files, that have a full set of smaller files inside them, all squeezed in tight to make the download quicker. WinRAR or the other programs in Howlings post will expand them, apart from the exe files which will unpack themselves when you run them. Do make sure you have patched your copy of WoV to the latest version, as many add on planes take full advantage of the patch updates, and also take care to put the files in the right directory, Objects/aircraft/*PLANE NAME*. SOmetimes you may even have t create the directory wityh the pkane name, but that seems to be fairly rare these days. Another point to bear in mind is what era do you want to fly in- this is because that will determine what weapons you can have on your plane. Weapon add ons come in one big pack, but to manage all the myriad options, the pack allows you to set up as one of four eras. One final point, WoV is missing a couple of planes that come in SFP1 (and vice versa) and this might make it difficult for you to add some others. The Hercules gunship is one that springs to mind (that thing is really hard work to use though. Fun but tough to hit anything!).
  9. I got an armed recon mission in the DBS campaign, about 15 missions in flying A7Es
  10. Play's ok but the error comes up on the planning map- will try another reinstall. Might it make a difference whether I'm cloning desert.cat or sea.cat across?
  11. Not wanting to cast aspertions on the hard work done by the map maker- but in the tiawan map mod it looks like the chinese airbases are all in the middle of the ocean, and so are half the taiwanese! Is this a local glitch for me, or does everyone get the same effect?
  12. All the f-111s are together in a single vark pack abut half way through the downloads. You may need the F14a too, as some of the engine sounds come from that. http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?download=917 The harriers are scattered throughout the downloads, look for the AV8A- there are harriers for the USMC, RAF, Spanish Navy, Indian Navy, and (deep joy) there is even an FA2, the short lived superSHAR, soon to be retired from the RN (tiny wings, asthmatic engine, doesn't like trying to land anywhere south of Lerwick after April) http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?download=469
  13. I'm enjoying the SHAR missions a lot (once the ships are relocated to the north sea, not the Rhone valley where they seemed to think they should have been!), but adding in small escorts causes some probs- for some reason I can't look at the Plymouth or Yarmouth without crashing to desktop!. Are these polygon heavy meshes? I ask as that's why I can't run the tornados (I think). Any tips much appreciated, as from screen shots they look delightful. P.S. part of me really wants to see T42s/Hercules, and t22s- dodging seadart and sea wolves would be lovely.
  14. I have an HP laptop that's been happily running WOV and SFP1 for a couple of months now, so for some variety I've installed LOMAC. However, I get hoorendous hangs when I run it- the screen is a gash pit, and it looks as though my graohics chip has totally spazzed out. It's an intel 915GM/GMS express chipset with 128MB of Ram, and direct x9.1- is that not good enough? have I been overly optimistic?
  15. Have done, thanks- wonder where I put them before- even google desktop couldn't find them! Also now have sound on the varks! deep joy!
