  1. Also, you may want to consider using this tool: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autoc...p;showfile=6314 Useful in finding coordinates on models when you don't have access to the original MAX file. Wrench, Awesome info on decals...was planning on starting my own...thanks for the explanation... Is this in the KB? :) FC
  2. The engine understands aerodynamics just fine. What it won't understand is fly by wire. You could put in the real values of the F-16 or Typhoon. But then you couldn't fly it (and the AI definitely couldn't) because computers fly the aircraft in real life because they are unstable. So, we have to compensate in the TW engine by 'fudging' the values to make it flyable. But it also means you won't necessarily get the max performance of the aircraft that you would actually get in real life. As far as what you're trying to do, I've mixed and matched parts before...but it's definitely trial and error (usually a lot of error) before I get something passable. Unless one of the FM masters pipes in here, expect a steep learning curve. FC
  3. Performance in the F-5 range, maybe slightly higher....? FC
  4. You need to put the files specified in the Aircraft directory, NOT in the individual F-14 directories. FC
  5. Babylon 5 fans take a look at this.

    Awwwww yeah!!!! FC
  6. Yep, SaE and I went round and round trying to figure that one out. There is one other option I'd like to try, but I'm a little leery since my video card has been showing signs of giving up the ghost. FC
  7. I'm with ya on that one CA_Stary...my laptop (you know, the one that has ALL my games and mods) decides last nite that it's video card is going to start expiring... Arrrghh! And me being on a 3 day trip... Anyway, look forward to the release when you're done. FC
  8. And a peek at what the F-108 was supposed to look like: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?s=&am...st&p=255543 FC
  9. And finally, she will be a part of the SWOTUSAF series of aircraft. FC
  10. Okay, now the cat's officially out of the bag.... First, the comic. All images come from a comic (graphic novel) called Tigers of Terra, from the Families of Altered Wars series. The artist and writer is Ted Nomura. The publisher was MindVisions initially, eventually switching over to Antarctic Press. Second, the model. Started about a month ago...an amalgamation from several sources, including a vacu-form 1/72 model kit (primary reference), several books on the B-70, and an article from an old Airpower magazine (thanks dwcace!). Decided to go with this iteration because the plastic model was in this configuration, and it closely matched the mockup with the square windows. I wanted to include a canard version, but the more I messed with it, the less happy I was...could never quite get the canopies and canard to integrate in a realistic fashion. Will not have thrust reversers, but will have a drag chute. Will also include the 'clamshell' ejection seats, and, surprised no one has noticed yet, the GAR-9/AIM-47 missile (in the screenshot). FM currently based on Julhelm's A-5 Vigilante (similar size and general configuration...just a little light) and the F-14 cockpit is currently in use (fits 'inside' the model really nice and had same general capabilities). And it can do this: Yep, a functioning rotary missile bay. And I have to say, I always thought Rapier was a silly name for this aircraft...a rapier is generally a svelte, thin, thrusting type sword...you know, something you see typically in a swordfighting movie. Claymore or the more general term Broadsword (yes, I know a British aircraft uses this one) I thought would have been more appropriate name...a brutish, two handed type sword that says 'Not only am I going to kill you, but I'm going to beat you over the head first and kiss your girlfriend" in the cigar chomping, Spike cable channel type way. Svelte is for metrosexuals... FC
  11. Pfffffft...please. I never try to be that predictable with my interests. FC

  14. Ever wish you could have vortex tip contrails on your swing wing aircraft? Well, Crusader (all credit goes to him) happened to find something in the Oct 08 patch. It's funny how TK sneaks in these little enhancements and doesn't tell anybody... Anyway, go into your data.ini file, and look for the wing that you want to add the vortex generator to. It will be a Component, in the EF-111, it's [LeftOuterWing],[RightOuterWing] Add the following lines: HasVortexEmitter=TRUE VortexEmitterName=WingtipVortexEmitter VortexPosition=4.265,-9.707,0.366 VortexUseNodeOffset=TRUE VortexG=2.5 Now lets look at each line to see what they do 1) HasVortexEmitter=TRUE - Pretty straightforward. This 'enables' the vortex emitter. 2) VortexEmitterName=WingtipVortexEmitter - Tells what effect to use...this is the stock wingtip emitter that comes with the ThirdWire sims. 3) VortexPosition=4.265,-9.707,0.366 - The position the emitter comes from (in X, Y, Z). You will have to figure this out yourself. Realize the position is from where the wings are at animation frame zero. For some models, that's wings all the way forward, for others, all the way aft. 4) VortexUseNodeOffset=TRUE - Bing, bing, bing! This line is IMPORTANT. This is the line that makes the vortex effect 'follow' the wings as they sweep (or more appropriately, follows the surface as it moves). 5) VortexG=2.5 - The minimum G needed to get the vortex to appear. Now go out there and start swinging! Oh, and for you F-111 drivers, I've already done the work for you. Short wing models use VortexPosition=4.265,-9.707,0.366 (right wing) or -4.265,-9.707,0.366 (left wing). Long wing models use VortexPosition=4.772,-10.517,0.340 (right wing) or -4.772,-10.517,0.340 (left wing). And tested on the XF-103...works perfectly on the 'tiperons'. Cool! FC
  15. You didn't add them as Components did you? The lines are meant to be added to Components that already exist. FC
  16. As expected, a few bugs made it through the process. We (the team) will list them here along with solutions. If you are an end user, DO NOT POST YOUR BUGS HERE! Post them in the specific aircraft release thread. Resolved issues (either fixed or a limitation of the ThirdWire engine): Bug: Ground mapping radar does not appear to work. Solution: In FA-18E_avionics.ini change: [RadarDisplayGround_Map] to [RadarDisplayGM] (Thanks to ArturR for the solution). Bug: Wingtip missiles don't align properly when wings are folded. Solution: None. A bug that appears if the missiles are anything other than zero degrees pitch on a moving pylon. Attempted with rotating pylon modifier with no success. Also, it's mentioned in the readme. Unresolved issues (no solution found or worked on yet): Bug: HUD AOB indicator is misaligned as in the AC-130U - it's way off to the left and only visible when banked over to the right. Troubleshooting: Pending. Bug: I've found a problem on ground, not much in the E but F and G are suffering cause their landing gears are below ground level. Troubleshooting: Causes include different shock handling between Oct 08 patch and eariler patches, setting on the gear on a carrier in the launch position will not work right if the aircraft is setup to belly land (which is mentioned in the readme). Still troubleshooting...inconsistent across users. For now, what definitely works is commenting out the SystemName=****Skid entries in the data.ini...but you lose belly land ability. FC
  17. Cause it doesn't use RAR...it uses 7z. FC
  18. On an airfield or on the carrier? Also, X RAY, if I remember correctly, you have a Oct 08 install and a previous version install. The way the engine handles shock values has changed between versions. This aircraft was flown in the Oct 08 version. FC
  19. The B-1B's flight performance isn't limited because of aerodynamics or engine power. Any limitations are due to other factors and are artificial in nature...having nothing to do with the aerodynamic speed capabilities of the airframe/engine combination. Not that I would know about that or anything...sheesh. FC
  20. Bah! Somebody has to take the 83 and 84 models off your hands...always taking up y'alls slack... Yep, I went there. Actually, if you got some good pics of y'alls nose art, maybe they can fit a few EL birds in somewhere... FC
  21. Hey bud...was wondering where you've been. You want to see the ALE-50 in action, download the Super Hornet trio (E,F,G) that EricJ just put on the street... FC
  22. Veltro, Fubar512 is working hard on the Bone FM...I've already flown it a few times. I suspect that will start as a good baseline. FC
