Air to Ground 'winders
arrow80 replied to Rambler 1-1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, I have this from my friend who was a weapons engineer and he told me that they succsessfully used R3S missiles (in practice firings) against ground target, so obviously it can be done. -
Tactics for Reco mission
arrow80 replied to Cliff7600's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, in a recon mission when leaving target I would ceratinly fly as low and as fast (in full burner at least till you can get from hot area) as possible, while trying to use terrain masking to avoid detection or locks from enemy assets. The rest is just luck. Certainly, also the mission should be planned in the way that you should have enough fuel to be able to use full burner on egress. I always save as much fuel as possible before IP to have that extra speed punch on egress. I don't know if that helps:) -

I can confirm that from my recent real world experience - daylight HUD of modern Mig-29 is green. -
Enemy Skill Level
arrow80 replied to Spinners's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I've had it on hard, but since I've read on thirdwire forums that HARD changes distribution of skill levels in the way that it lowers the skill level of your wingmen and increases skill level of enemy, I set it always to normal, where the skill levels are equal (easy does the opposite). -
WOV Scooter Carrier Landing Problems?
arrow80 replied to smokey799's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, I wrote about the problem on thirdwire forums and TK has replied that they will look on this A4 issue, so it will be hopefully sorted out Everything stock - stock models - stock carrier. -
WOV Scooter Carrier Landing Problems?
arrow80 replied to smokey799's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, I have tested it further and came to a conclussion. At first I tested A-4 in prepatched WoV - no landing problems, I've been able to land 10 times in a row on the angled landing deck. Furthermore I tested it in patched WoV, and in 10 trials I haven't been able to land at all. Afterwards I copied A4C data.ini file from prepatched WOV into patched one and again I couldn't land at all on the angled deck - so I suppose there isn't a problem with the new .ini file. I also copied data.ini file of the carrier from prepatched WoV - but they seem to be the same and no change occured. I also stiffened shocks on A-4, however no joy in landing at an angled deck - only coming straight in works. However, after a straight in landing - I tried to taxi A4 on the deck, at the moment I turn the plane just a bit to left or right it falls by itself through the deck! So I made few more taxing atempts and no matter how slowly I turn the plane it always leans to the left or right (If I turn it to the left it falls right and if I turn it to right it falls to the left). So there must be some problem in internal game modeling that makes A4 to fall through the deck. I will test further how other planes are affected, but A-7 and F-8 seem also to be affected to a lesser degree -
WOV Scooter Carrier Landing Problems?

Yep, it happens after touch down mainly in A-4 - even though it is perfect - the plane leans to the left side after stop and goes under the deck... -
The Official Sept/Oct Patch Thread
arrow80 replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well I've checked weapondata.ini file and accuracy of SA-2s is lowered by some 10% and also sustainer booster acceleration is considerably lower - so maybe that's the problem. However I found in campaigns that the number of SA-2 launchers in WOV is much much higher - so it is maybe just to compensate. -
WOV Scooter Carrier Landing Problems?
arrow80 replied to smokey799's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I haven't really tested F-8, I just supposed according to A-7 that it won't do it, because it has similar undercariage. Anyway - I tried the A-7 angle landing only few times - so it maybe can be done. But try it with A-4 (any version), this is probably the most problematic craft (I've been trying to land it for som 3 hours). And to add - I am no newb to sims, I can land the phantom anytime/anywhere and also other sims (Il2-1946, Lock-on, Falcon). -
WOV Scooter Carrier Landing Problems?
arrow80 replied to smokey799's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well I have the same finding. I've been trying to land A-4s few hours - different approaches, different speeds, different gear setting - however the only solution that I found in the end was to land straight and not in the angle of the deck. When I landed at an angle, the aircraft always goes into the deck and after some "dance" explodes. However you can land Phantom at an angle, but A-7 or F-8 will always crash. I am just surprised that noone has noticed it in new patches, as it seems to be a real glitch. -
The Official Sept/Oct Patch Thread
arrow80 replied to Murphy'S's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, but that is really very bad comparison. The accuracy of "1.5% and up to 5-8%" reflects mostly targets that evaded the missiles. Against high flying non maneuvering target SA-2 should have much better accuracy. It is easy to evade SA-2, however if you don't do anything you should end up killed. SA-2s were a factor in vietnam, the problem was that the planes had to evade them, thus going defensive and spoiling missions and that was often enough. They wouldn't bother with wild weasel missions if it had accuracy of 1.5% against non maneuvering target. -
Su-7 cockpit
arrow80 replied to kukulino's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Allright guys, I have the photos - I have still solve some issues with them, but soon will send them to the correct people. They could be a bit clearer, but I think they will serve well as reference for the planed minor modifications of the cockpit. Boopi: we also have a Su-15 in our museum, I will try to get a permission to take some photos of the cockpit: http://airmuseum.aspdotnet.sk/images/su_15tm.jpg -

Well, I am sorry guys, but we will have to wait till monday for the full set of photos of the SU-7 cockpit here from our museum. It will be photos of this aircraft: http://airmuseum.aspdotnet.sk/images/su-7_5608_1.jpg Hopefully I will be able to get cockpit photos of further aircraft for cockpit making purposes. -
