Geoff just sent me some great skins and I want to use them in my campaigns and missions. The problem is that my missions all involve Dick Bong as the players plane. For example I have a mission that involves both Bong and Tommy Lynch. Is there anyway to put a skin on Tommy's plane automatically without the player having to mess around?

How do you use a skin on other planes in the flight

Thank you. I figured it out a while ago. I should have reposted that sorry. -
How do you end WWIII?
Hairog replied to Hairog's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: General Discussion
How about this one... Spies find out that Stalin is in Stalingrad for a tour of the front. When the tour starts he notices that there is an ominous silence on the NATO side almost as if they had pulled back for some reason. Just then a flight of B29s is picked up on radar at extreme altitude coming in from the South. Stalin and his staff shove each other in their haste to get to their cars. Stalin is pushed to the ground but manages to get into the last staff car by shooting his chief of staff and pulling him out of the car. The cars careen away from the front when a hay wagon appears from behind a barn and slams into Stalin's staff car. He is not in his car but in the last car in line which slams into the car in front of it going 80. Stalin is thrown from the car and lands with a sickening thud. He is conscious the whole time. He lands at a twisted angle and is on fire. He can see that his right leg has been ripped off but he can't feel the pain. In fact he can't feel anything from the waste down. The flames have cauterized his wounds so he does not bleed to death. His twisted body lies draped over a railing next to a pig sty. He uses his last ounce of strength and falls off the fence putting out the fire which has charged 90 % of his body. Just when he thinks he can’t endure any more pain an 800 lb boar thunders over and starts to eat his face and the last thing he sees is a bright flash and feels searing heat and intense pain just as the boar starts to rip his scalp off. He lives for a half hour after the car accident screaming in horror and pain. The mass murderer of millions is dead; burnt to a crisp as a nuclear bomb explodes overhead and incinerates the smoking ruin that was Stalingrad. As the rest of the world and the USSR hear about Stalingrad and the death of Stalin. A violent revolution occurs and all the former communist leaders are hung in Red Square. An armistice is called for and an unconditional surrender treaty is signed in Smolensk. The millions of stranded Soviet soldiers are fed, clothed and allowed to make their way back to Russian soil. The USSR is broken up into historic and ethnic groupings. New nations are formed from the carcass of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republic. WWIII is over and the rebuilding can begin. -

Ha. Obviously I'm not a writer. Thanks for the idea. Chapter 2 The Soft Underbelly September 7th, 1946 Crimea Map 5 missions As envisioned in Plan Griddle the NATO bomber force is relocated to Egypt. On this day the first high level bombing mission occurs. The target is the oil production facilities surrounding Sevastopol. The plan is to obliterate by day and night the Soviet Unions ability to produce oil. 70% of the USSR oil supply and refining capacity are located within range of the new B29 bases in Egypt and new long range fighter bases in Turkey, Rhodes and Cyprus. The strategic air war begins. The first attack is a daylight raid by B29s escorted by YP80 and ME262s. That same night a raid by B17s escorted by P51s and 109Z twin 109 long range fighter. The Soviets are caught off guard but respond quickly with a motley collection of B-6 and ME 163 rocket propelled interceptors, Yak 9Us and La-7s. Enough HE Lerche are scrapped together and along with their wire guided missiles start to prove devastating to the attacking bombers. The attacks continue day and night. Oct. 15th, 1946 Sevastopol disappears under an atomic mushroom cloud delivered by a B29. Oct. 16th, 1946 Kuban map 5 missions The strategic bombing campaign switches to the Kuban area. Nov. 20th, 1946 Besberobia map 5 missions The strategic bombing campaign switches to the Odessa area. Nov. 26th, 1946 Online map 11a (Turkey) online Italy (Island of Cyprus) Guadalcanal (Rhodes) 5 missions Soviets counter attack the forward fighter bases in Turkey, Rhodes and Cyprus. -

Chapter Two May 6th, 1946 West Berlin falls May 11th, 1946 Online Map 2 represents West Germany Two missions The Soviets onslaught continues with the newly formed NATO Alliance barley able to catch it's breath. 2 missions of trying to stop and protect fleeing NATO forces. May 19th, 1946 Two missions Online map 1 represents an area near the Belgium and German border. Resistance starts to stiffen and the Soviets receive a bloody nose. May 24th, 1946 Ardennes Map Three missions The French make an all out heroic stand and halt the Soviet forces for a few days. The Soviets halt and regroup before pushing on. June 6th NW Europe map Four missions The NATO strength starts to gather and newer equipment starts to show up on the battle field. The Soviet forces are actually held in check at a few crucial bridgeheads. Paris falls but the French fight on along with their NATO allies. June 12 Normandy map 5 missions The navy joins the fight and stops the Red Army at the shoreline using massive firepower from battleships and an air superiority battle breaks out over who will control the French coastline. A massive attempt by Soviet forces to destroy the NATO naval power preventing their ground forces from advancing are launched. The naval forces launch counter attacks on the Soviet airbases and ground forces. July 9th Online Map 4 represents the Spain/French border, The Pyrenees Line 8 missions According to Plan Griddle envisioned by the Joint Chiefs of Staff ... this is the last line of resistance. The retreat is over and they shall not pass. The Soviet forces slam into the Pyrenees Line and try to hammer their way through. Both sides pull out all the stops and use all their collective wonder weapons in an attempt to bring defeat to their opponent. Nothing is held back and anything that can fly, roll or crawl is put into the fight. The two heavy weights go toe to toe with no quarter given. Hay makers are thrown and damage is taken but there is no knock out blow. August 7th, 1946 A breakthrough had occurred in atomic weapons technology by NATO scientists and the W-9 Artillery shell program is modified towards making a 1000 lb 15KT bomb. 4 of these bombs are produced at great expense. This bomb has the same destructive ability as "Fat Man" but 1/8th the size. At the same time Naval aviation designers are modifying the GO 229 with the capability of being launched from an aircraft carrier and have the capability of delivering the new W-9 atomic bomb. British MI-6 urges a desperate plan and NATO comes in through the back door of the Baltic and launches 2 GO 229s from the CV 10 USS Yorktown carrying modified W-9 atomic warheads. Minsk and Warsaw no longer exist. Both are key supply and rail hubs. As invisioned by MI-6, three Soviet armies are caught in transit. 2100 tanks and 250,000 men women and children are incinerated by two GO 229 stealth bombers sneaking in under the radar and two 15KT W-9 atomic warheads. The first major Soviet offensive is halted and both sides dig in. -

Massive campaign using most of the maps and lots of jets
Hairog replied to Hairog's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: Mission & Campaign Building
Storyline for 1946 WWIII Chapter one January 23, 1946 Stalin's former allies have demobilized entire armies and have sent many of their armed forces home. The US and England have a fraction of their former forces stationed on the European mainland and have shown no backbone in resisting Soviet incursions. The only thing holding Stalin back from his vision of a communist Europe dominated by the USSR is the fear of the American nuclear bomb. He has seen the devastation it has brought to the Empire of Japan. Although he has no doubt that his armed forces can storm through the blasted hulk of the former Germany and France he is held in check by the fear of nuclear destruction from the skies. The war mongers in the US have also decided to base a squadron of B29 Super Fortresses in West Germany. The B29 is an offensive weapon not a defensive weapon. What are they thinking of. In addition his former allies are gathering far too many of the German scientists and their wonder weapons and stealing them away to work on even more destructive weapons and delivery systems. Comrade Stalin needs to create a buffer so that the motherland is never subject to attack again. His vision is that all future wars will be fought in the no mans land that is the former Nazi homeland and he is convinced that there will be more wars despite the American atomic bomb. It's all a matter of where and when these wars will be fought because Capitalism and Communism cannot occupy the same space. Some say the second atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki was a demonstration for Stalin's benefit and to reinforce the power of the atom bomb in his mind. In addition it was to demonstrate that America has not only one but many bombs and is ready to use them. The plan has worked until today. Today Stalin receives word through his spy master and massive network of agents that American has a total of only 6 nuclear bombs. Previously he believed that they had many more and this fear is the only thing that kept his paranoia and ambitions in check. With this news the plan for the domination of Western Europe begins. No longer will the West be allowed to dictate it's will on the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and Stalin. He will once and for all remove the threat to Mother Russia. No longer will there be a gun pointed at his head from West Germany. A massive and very well concealed mobilization begins. D-day is May 1st...International Workers Day...May Day and the May Day Parade in Berlin, East Germany is complete with the usual massive flybys of Soviet aircraft. There has been a change from previous flybys in Moscow. The aircraft are flying from East to West and in numbers never before seen. An awe inspiring sight for all to behold. And this year there is a bonus feature to the flyby... the aircraft are armed and have been given orders to ATTACK! May 1st, 1946 One mission using the Berlin map The Soviet forces fan out from the Mayday Parade in Berlin and attack their former allies in West Berlin and in occupied West Germany. Most of our forces are caught off guard and slaughtered where they stand. -
Massive campaign using most of the maps and lots of jets
Hairog replied to Hairog's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: Mission & Campaign Building
So I'm getting carried away as usual with my missions. I have all sorts of useless action going on but I just can't help my self. I mean does it really matter that there are actually tanks about to cross that bridge before you blow it with your flight of P47Ds or that at the same time some P38Ls are wasting another bunch of bunch of Soviet tanks at the the other bridge 2 miles north or that at the same time their is a huge air superiority battle being fought at 30,000 feet between YP80s, ME262s and Lagg7Rs or that at the same time RAF Tempests are lifting off to clean up any other armored units in the area or that there are 12 Lagg 7s and Yak 9s patrolling the area all being shot at by AAA and two trains full of ammo and fuel are racing away from the bridge? Well the answer is no. So I've decided to use my obsession and create multiple campaigns using the same mission. So out of that mission there will be a mission for the 47D pilot campaign and a mission for the Yak 9 campaign and a mission for the YP80 campaign and a mission for the ME262 campaign, etc. So I will have about maybe 30 missions in each campaign with probably 10 campaigns all using the same 30 missions but from a different viewpoint. Get it? I'm insane I tell you absolutely mad. Anyone want to help? -
Massive campaign using most of the maps and lots of jets
Hairog replied to Hairog's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: Mission & Campaign Building
I've gotten another mission done. This is a bridgehead scenario where the "NATO" forces have to keep the Soviets from overrunning an area until a series of trains and convoys have made their way over the bridges and then blow the bridges. It involves lots of late model prop planes and a few jets on the NATO side. Another side story is that there are a couple of production models of the Go 229, TA 183 and the DO 335 that the NATO forces try to fly out before the Soviets arrive. The Soviets have to stop the wonder weapons from getting away, eliminate the trains and convoys and then defend the bridges. They have an overwhelming number of planes to do the job with. -

Hairog replied to Hairog's topic in IL-2 Series / Pacific Fighters / Cliffs of Dover: Mission & Campaign Building
Well I've done a couple of missions and it's pretty easy to get the Soviets to fight the US in FMB but I still can't get an answer on if it is possible to make a whole nation switch sides in DCG. The mission is very fun by the way. I've got IL10s doing ground attacks with Tempests trying to stop them with MiG 9 flying fighter cover and YP80s taking on the MiGs. At the same time a flight of TU2s make a bombing run covered by Yak 15s and a squadron of Go 229 tries to shoot em down. Then a flight of P38L Late tries to sneak in the back door and take out the attacking Soviet armor and they get jumped by some Yak 9s all on the online 4 map. You know the one with all the mountains. It's a hoot so far. -
I've been working on tracks for my updated campaign "Americas Ace of Aces". I've been using the Steam version of IL2 for some of the tracks when I noticed that the skins I put on the models do not show up in the playback of the tracks. Disaster!!!!!!! Everything is fine on my old DVD installed version on my Vista machine but not on the Steam version. To make matters worse the tracks I did on the Steam version and play on my DVD version have no skins either. The skins are very important to the story line of the campaign and I dread having to re-do the tracks. Anyone have any ideas?

New pilot, definitely not an ace...

I find that when I'm having trouble hitting anything I go back to the basics and don't over think it. It almost always comes down to my not squeezing the trigger. I jerk the shot and miss. Which brings to mind how incredibly hard it must have been and still is, to actually hit a plane with a bullet in real life. We in our virtual world without the stresses and strains of maneuver or being cramped in a small cockpit for hours in the freezing cold with your life really on the line, can"t even come close to what it must have been like. Someone should hold a tournament of virtual pilots where the contestants have to "fly" while crammed in the back of a Ford Fiesta going 80 mph around an The Road America Race Course in the middle of winter with the windows open after drinking at least 6 cups of coffee per hour with no potty breaks. And then there is the fact that we get to practice hundreds of times while in real life a pilot would actually find him/herself getting perhaps a dozen chances to get it right before the real thing happens. Read about the first few fights that Saburo Sakai flew. He made some really silly mistakes but lived to fight another day. -

I have DirectX10 the newest version on a brand new machine. I don't think this is the problem. I tried loading it from scratch twice now. The version off the cd works fine. The patch first of all wants to install in another directory and then gives me the error. -

I just added another upload that contains some sample video tracks I am going to add to my America's Ace of Aces campaign. It is in the form of a short campaign that consists of the same little mission with the video tracks in between the missions. It was the only way I knew how to show the video tracks I have created. It's a small download and just a sample of things to come. Hairog -

Can you match the exploits of America's Ace of Aces? I have portray as accurately as possible the circumstances faced by Dick Bong in his 2 year onslaught of the Japanese armed forces in the Pacific. All of Bong's successful missions have been recreated. America's Ace of Aces Richard Ira Bong Just over the Wisconsin border from Illinois is the most stolen sign in America. It reads "Bong Recreation Area". 99% of the people you ask will have no idea who or what the area is named after. It's a shame that the greatest fighter pilot America has ever produced is all but forgotten and his name has become a joke. This is just my attempt to educate a small number of you as to the life and times of Richard Ira Bong, America's Ace of Aces. His record 40 kills will never be surpassed. This unlikely farm boy from tiny Poplar Wisconsin became a super star and then faded into the history books. He deserves more than 15 min of fame. I have recreated all of Bong's successful missions. If you equal or surpass Bong's record with all the realism options turned on without do overs and without using the auto pilot you have accomplished a major feat and should be proud of your simulated flying skill. I have tried to portray as accurately as possible the circumstances faced by Dick Bong in his 2 year onslaught of the Japanese armed forces. I have had to use different maps because many of the areas that Bong fought in are not represented in the game yet. Areas such as Northern New Guinea, Rabal, Borneo, the Philippine Islands of Negros, Mindoro and Leyte have not been modeled yet. I have found very similar areas on other maps that fit the bill however. By using the southern part of New Guinea I was able to recreate the Lae area farther to the north; by using the Singapore map I could recreate similar conditions to the Philippine islands etc. I think you will get the feel of the historical area and conditions. The folder BongCampaign goes in the US folder that is in the Campaign folder that is in the mission folder. The folder BongSingle goes in the US folder that is in the Single folder that is in the mission folder. The P38J, P38L and P38L_Late folders go in the skins folder that is in the PaintSchemes folder. This campaign is complex and requires a powerfull computer and video card. It was done with IL2FB+PF Combined Install version 4.04. Mission Bong29 (Rivals Together) is very complex. You might want to try out your computer on this one first if you plan on doing the campaign. I was having fun trying to make a realistic invasion scene and it got out of hand. Feel free to tone it down if you know how. Much of what is going on is not relevant to your mission as a pilot. Just invasion craft, bunkers, BB and CAs shelling each other etc. It's a hoot. Look around using the Cnt F2 command as I have placed some fixed cameras. Three books were instrumental in providing the historical facts for this endeavor... Ace of Aces, The Dick Bong Story - Written by Carl Bong and Mike O'connor Dear Mom So We Have A War by Carl Bong Dick Bong Ace of Aces by Gen. George Kenney I had unique access to these books being from Wisconsin. There are many quotes directly from Dick's letters home to his mother. They provide an extrodinary window as to the thoughts and concerns of a farm boy a long way from the farm but making the best of it. Carl Bong is Dick Bong's brother and Gen. Kenney was Dick's commanding officer. I have copied major parts of the "descriptions" from these books. I am not a writer but I do know how to copy well. The first mission is from the Kokoda Campaign for Pacific Fighters by VBF_80 and the skins are all modifications of other people's painstaking work the most notable being "Marge" by Richard Mutt or RMutt. I couldn't have done this project without the jump start these artists provided. I wish to apologize for the racial epithets used to describe the Japanese race. This was the language of the times and the quotes are verbatim. I'm sorry if they cause any discomfort. I do not mean to offend, just to be historically accurate with my quotes. Because of the 3 books mentioned I believe these missions to be very accurate, sans the proper maps of course. The conditions, land forms, forces encountered are as historically correct as can be created. Any additions or corrections would be appreciated. There are a few fun missions. One where you take off at night and try and get Washing Machine Charlie as Bong tried to do a few times... Another where you get into a dogfight in a SBD against a float plane... One where you have a mock dog fight with a P47 as Bong did while on leave... and the last one where you try and complete the only mission that Dick Bong could not. Feel free to add a video or awards etc. I have no idea as to how to go about doing that. Add all you want but please dont change the basic facts of the missions. The research is pretty good. If you do put the plane on autopilot, you will encounter all the bogies that Dick Bong shot down. P.S. Oh yeah, by the way, did you know who Bong was before you read this? -

I have recreated all of Bong's successful missions. I have tried to recreate as accurately as possible the circumstances faced by Dick Bong in his 2 year onslaught of the Japanese armed forces. I wish to apologize for the racial epithets used to describe the Japanese race. This was the language of the times and the quotes are verbatim. I'm sorry if they cause any discomfort. I do not mean to offend, just to be historically accurate with my quotes. If Put the plane on autopilot and you will encounter all the bogies that Dick Bong shot down. The skins mentioned are not included in this version. If you want to use them they are included in America's Ace of Aces campaign only and you can download them there.
