  1. Started playing an Early Vietnam Campaign off of Yankee Station with the "Sundowners" Flying this fantastic plane. What a scrapper this thing is. Fast and agile and the nature of the beast has you engaging inside VR so there are no .... "Mistakes". It also sems to have close to the Maneuverablity of the Mig but a ton more Firepower, thrust and speed. Only problem I get is the A/A Radar seems to not want to lock up somtimes in search and boresight mode. "Ugly-as-sin" airplane but man can she fight up a storm..... Anyone else love the F-8?
  2. F-104 Starfighter Tactics...

I have recently begun concentrating on the Zipper. I have found that it is a very rewarding plane to fly once your use to its profile. I think all of us F-104 lovers are well aware of its Slash attack abilities... but what else do you use to down migs? I find its fast roll rate to be rather useful against opponents trying to line up a shot. It can throw some pretty convincing "feints" against an aggressor simply by rolling one direction…. then reversing and pulling away and gunning it. And I have not had any opponents able to run away from me once they go “Winchester” and make a run for it. How about bombing; any good solutions to that? I have been pretty successful with low, level bombing, strikes. So what tricks do you Starfighter drivers have up your “low drag” sleeves?
  3. F-104 Starfighter Tactics...

Yeah the Zipper has a cool history and is a neat idea... Comes from the era where the USAF was all about higher&faster I have flown in it against my buddy online when he was using an f-16 and was able to pull of the first two kills.... We wont discuss what happend after that.... But since technically he is "dead"... in real life I would not have to worry about the other losses right?
  4. So I figure that in the C:\Program Files\Wings Over Vietnam\Campaigns\LinebackerI text I could just add the 104 and be sound as a pound.... Buuuut this is all I can find .... And I cannot figure out what parameter there allows me to add/change what Plane I want for the squadrons..... Can anyone help me with this?
  5. LOL USAFMTL, your gunan think me stupid. I followed the directions in the link you provided and still can get the Zipper to pop up. I now can selct "Linebacker III" as a campaign, And "436TFS" as my squadron ... but the "TFS 4 Fighting Fujins is the one that keeps popping up on me when the game starts.... This is what I have changed 1) I have a seperate Folder marked Linebacker III with a new LinebackerIII and a new WOVCAMPL4_DATA set inside said folder... So thats where I am at so far.... What Am I missing?
  6. Putting Bombs on Target! The Devil way!

Yeah, that's one that is only gunna work within the envelope of certain A/C's for sure... Try that in a Starfighter and you will end up 30 or so feet under the mud. Prolly work in a Phantom though.... Maybe even a Thud.
  7. This makes zero sence to me. I unzipped using this program and just got a list of things that have nothing to do with individual squadrons... and the one thing on the list that has to do with squads. Basically i have no idea how to use this program. Ok I unzipped it... and modified it to this.... I then placed the new WOVCAMPL1_DATA doc into the Linbacker folder and..... nothing? LOL Maybe I just suck ass at this?
  8. I've never tried an early F-4 with an all Missile Load-out, until last night. It was a strike mission to nail a runway. And all I can say is.. man do those early Missiles stink! After I dropped half my 500's on the runway, I felt pretty safe about making another pass and I dropped the rest on the fuel depot next to the now pitted dragway. So without the further weight the bombs impose, and the fuel tank long dropped, I decided to go after some Migs. You know… really see what the C could do. Crazy thing was my wingmen and the Air Force assets of about 10 F-100’s were actually cleaning house; so when I was done with my bombing pass there was not much left. Good thing too... Red Crown spotted 2 17’s at about 35 miles to my 10 o'clock flying at 18,000 feet. I punched it and picked up about 3,000 feet of alt so I was just a little above him, and turned into him as to acquire him on radar. Acquisition was easy thanks to the big radar; and I had a good lock quickly. I went ahead and fired two of my Aim 7's.... No hit. I immediately pulled off to their left and gunned the throttle as I released all the elements in my group save my wingman (no use risking everyone for my own selfish curiosity). My Wing and I screamed past them at well over 1000 kts. closure. I watched them, over my right shoulder, pull around to position themselves behind us as we stayed on the throttle. I still had 2 Aim 7's and 4 Sidewinders as well as 800 gallons of fuel on board, so I was feeling pretty confident in my abilities to bag this commie; well it’s hard not to feel a little confident when in the seat of a Phantom over Vietnam. After a few minutes of running I pulled back on the throttle and shot up into the sky, into a climb that no Mig would even dare attempt for fear of stalling, and pulled the nose of the big plane over in an Immlemen in an attempt to re-acquire the two Migs. I picked them up almost right away and contacted Red Crown for their bearing and saw they were giving up the chase and heading back inland. No dice. I poured on the throttle and dumped fuel into the massive J-79’s using their thrust, and the weight of the big plane, to bring up my speed. My radar showed that my wingman and I were rapidly gaining on them so I went for a lock and let loose my last two Aim 7’s. They screamed out to the Mig and slammed home causing a spectacular explosion and the tell tale line of black smoke. I pulled over right to the black dot that was my first victim’s wingman and switched to sidewinders. I got tone as he started to break right in what seemed a slow almost lazy turn north, “Dead meat” is all I could think. I pulled my nose a little ahead of him and let lose two ‘Winders and watched them both start to track… then suddenly they popped out in the other direction…. WHAT? I cut loose another, seeker head still growling, and it shot almost straight. I slammed the throttle down hard, got directly behind him and closed the distance… fired; missed again! I then went to switch to guns…. Well you all know how that went…Ok…. Fine. I then ordered my wingman to engage my target. Three ‘Winders later… dead Mig… So out of 9 Missiles…. two kills…. Man with all the Triple A, SAM’s, and dodgy missiles Vietnam Pilots had to face…they had to have been thee greatest Pilots in History……
  9. Good info to have. Thanks man. How many of you guys use the "IFF" thisng in this game anyways? Oh one more thing... I thought I was in a "C" but I was wrong... Ti's a "B" I be flying.
  10. Yeah, I use the Vis range stuff for sure. It's really the best way to play WoV. I also do use the map screen. I figure that between radio use and my Rear seat I would be able to deduce the locations of my other elements in the mission. SO if Red Crown tells me that I have "10 plus Bandits 10 o'clock Bearing 090 angels 10" I point my plane in that direction if there are no "Blue flyers" on the map in that location I go ahead and lock them up and select my Aim 7's. One question though; how big is a map square in the map mode? Like how long is it? 5 Miles? maybe 8?
  11. No problem, mine is set in stone so any time that works for you I will work around K? We should try and get the same version as eachother soon though so we can fly some vipers and s**t.
  12. We should all try and hook up again this weekend. Say like Sat. Night at about 20:00?
  13. Get some guys together once a week or so and do some flying online? Do F-4's or F-100's or any of the Vietnam Era Aircraft... even try some demonstartion flying stuff using the beutifull Thunderbirds skin for the F-4. Maybe get some guys together for some agressor mig action? Anyone else interested in playing online?
  14. Sounds good SNE. I had a blast the other night as well. I know alot of guys on this websight mod, but never play, now is a great time to fly some of your mods. I cannot hook up every single night (wife and kids you know) but will try and be there a couple times a week.
  15. I played with Da.Spungie the other night and I know he has mods out the ass. I think as long as we are all using files that we all have it will not be an issue.
  16. I only have WOV and a few Planes (couple Vipers, Couple 'Cats, and a MiG-29) DL'd... and of course patches. But I could swing a few sessions later tonight.
  17. Tigers are great airplanes. My Grandfather wored for Northop on that Project, that na d the F-20 Tigershark.
  18. Well I would like to get a time set up... maybe next weekend.... for a little flight time for the new Squadron. So anyone interested "sign up" below this post.
  19. So after DL'ing all the patches... and the weapons pack.... and the F-104.... and the F-14, I tried running a single mission in my Starfighter (one of my favorite planes) and for some darn reason all I can load up is Fuel tanks?
  20. So I guess the next question is this... who is "for sure" in?
  21. Hyperlobby Callsign is "Freon" How do you chat in game?
  22. Well its an old email addy, but I see your point ;-) I put my MSN in my pro if anyone is interested. Ill see what I can do about ICQ. edit: Put my ICQ # down there too.
