Yet more terrain questions...
Stwa replied to Wrench's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Born in West Texas, grew up in South Texas. Actaully the area in the target circle is very near the city Victoria, where I spent several years as a contractor with DuPont and DEC. In some respects, WOE tiles would be a better fit for the Northen and Eastern areas of the map. East Texas being primarly a pine forest beginning just a little West of Houston (70 miles north of Galveston), and covering most all of the state to the East. Near Corpus Christy to Brownville, and the mentioned target area on the map, is known as the Coast Bend area of Texas, mostly grasslands and flat as a pancake. The area between Galveston and the target circle is known as the rice-belt in Texas. Of course, paddies are not used, but dry rice crop harvested for about a 70 mile area for over a century until the market when belly up. Near Brownsville, the Rio Grande valley, a prime citrus growing area, and not exactly desert terran either. In central Texas where the lighter elevations show, is known as the Hill Country, cattle ranching, North of San Antonio to Austin, and West from there. Hilly, live oaks, and mostly green all year round. SouthWest Texas and Northern Mexican states have a semi-arid climate, but the desert areas resemble more the Suagaro deserts here in Arizona, which look nothing like desert areas in the middle east or nothern Africa. Little known facts: At one time in the 19th century German was the most common language in San Antonio. Immigration into Central Texas. Immgrants settled primarily around the town of Fredricksburg which is a little west of Austin, because it reminded them of the Rhine valley. -
Paran Terrain for WOE
Stwa posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I have been working on a Paran terrain for WOE. It is almost finished, but I am wondering if there would be any real interest in this terrain. Please let me know. I just need to finish the planning maps and then it can be uploaded. Here is a list of its features. 1. The Paran terrain, is really the desert terrain for SF1 repainted to employ stock WOE terrain textures. 2. The city names have been given fictional German style names. 3. The theater is Central Europe instead of the middle east. 4. The targets and air-bases are the same, except the airbases are re-numbered P-1 thru P-21. 5. Paran is divided into a West and East Paran. West Paran is the previous Dhimar. -
Saved Files Restore and Delete Operations Missing?
Stwa posted a topic in Site Support / Bug Reports / Suggestions
1. I have noticed on files that I have updated (after a prior submission), that a Saved File version is created. 2. I can only perform a download operation on my Saved Files, the restore and delete operation (buttons) are not visible on the screen. They were there last week. 3. Has this been changed recently for everyone? 4. How does a person delete older Saved File versions when a prior file submission has been updated? -

CPG Poll 1: Multiplayer
Stwa replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Dang IT. This is why I don't like polls. I voted for BASIC, but now that I see I am the only one that voted for that, I want to change my vote to NONE. -
Paran Terrain for WOE
Stwa replied to Stwa's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
OK, then... While I am finishing the planning maps, maybe some of you can come up with some better city names than I have. It's harder than you think. I have 24 of em, but I think we need more than that. Either this, or we go with the original arabian sounding names? -
Community produced game?
Stwa replied to column5's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Well, I think you have enough of an idea, consolidated in your mind to create some marketing pages at your site and to approach TK now. I think what you are planning pretty much hinges on whether he can find the time to do this. Having $250,000 K rolling in is bound to interest him somehow. If you get his buy in, then your site already receives donations, so you just fix it so it take pre-orders, albeit delivery is a long way out. If after a few months, nothing is rolling in then you can always cancel and refund 49.00 out of 50.00 or whatever you need to cover pay-pal expenses etc.. If TK doesn't buy in, then I am sure, the situation will look different to you. -

1. Have you broached any of this with TK already. Is there anything you are not telling us? 2. Because, if TK is making money with the sims he is producing, then producing more of them horizontally across the market is his best bet. 3. TK has been able to make his codeline almost totally re-usable. This way he can retro-fit new features into the older games. He has been very meticulus in this area, like no other project team has. From the menu systems, to avionics, to the aircraft themselves. Its very astonishing, and very useful, as one person has been able to create the majority of this code. This might not be the case with the study sim, as most of the coded features would be 'one time' ponies. 4. I like the sims now. The lite sim allows me to focus on air-combat tactics, which is most enjoyable to me. 5. If TK's current formula makes money (I really don't know), then your capital would be better spent on another title of the same genre. -
Korean Air War Complete Mod in WoV?
Stwa replied to vampirella's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
Wow, thats great, and down the road. We pass through on our way to Tucson sometimes. And your right about the weather. At this point, I couldn't survive in a cold climate. We are sooo spoiled. -
Korean Air War Complete Mod in WoV?
Stwa replied to vampirella's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mission/Campaign Building Discussion
I wouldn't mind throwing together a quick terrain for Korea that will work in WOV. I did it before and I can do it again. I can use original USCG DEM, and I have a pretty good texture and city list for it. It could use stock Vietnam stuff. Its not perfect, but close enuf? I could place all the airbases. This would only take a few nights of work. But other targets, rivers, campagin thing, would make it take much longer. But how about a Guadalcanal terrain for WW2 dood. This could be really cool. Dogfights over Henderson, and blowing up stuff in Iron Bottom sound. -
Mirrors Off Mod For Stock WoV/WoE planes
Stwa replied to Brain32's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - File Announcements
Well, I think you are right about the blank mirrors. I didn't want the blanks either, so I turned the mirrors on. But, I am really enjoying the extra speed of having the mirrors turned off. So, for know, I am digging the mod. -

Nice mod, Frame rates shot through the roof after I installed it. You must turn mirrors off in the graphics option. But, I did some checking on-line for some photos. Don't most planes have these canopy mirrors? -

WOE...anti-ship missions
Stwa replied to sparkomatic's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
It is not uploaded here for download. If you PM me with your e-mail address, I will send the zip file to you. The terrain does not have a lot of targets in it. And for the FI there is only Stanley and Goose Green represented, but there are 2 airfields on the island. There are 4 or so Argentine airfields. I use the terrain to fly cap missions over the island, and I take out the incoming bad guys, using the stock RAF stuff (great FPS). But anyone could add some ships, and a small campaign or something to spice things up a little. -
WOE...anti-ship missions
Stwa replied to sparkomatic's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The Bering Strait for WOE terrain set was an attempt to minimize or eliminate the use of third party target objects and terrain tile sets. At the time I wanted everything to be WOE stock (right down to the airfields), because I wasn't sure what actually worked and what did not. Plus, the addon for the most part is just ini files, etc..., making it small and easy to use. The GERMANYCE tile set, looked nice and attractive, and close enough at least for me, to represent this area in spring/summer at least. Its a great map for getting good FPS, nice dogfighting, and the planning maps worked out ok as well. I also made a Falkland Is. (Malvinas) terrain along the same lines. Here the GERMANYCE terrain tile set does not represent well the Patagonai region of Argentina. But the terrain set does look nice overall, and the water (stock WOE), looked better, at least to me, than some of the other Falkland Is. terrain sets. -
malvinas for WOV
Stwa replied to mcodes's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Here is one I made for WOE a long time ago. A WOV equivalent would take about 10 minutes to make. I play with this all the time. Its a blast, and great for CAP and Anti-shipping missions. The terrain is green, which will make a few people blench. -
