  1. When you get a perfect screenshot you just gotta use it. It's been great doing the WW2 thing. It integrated in to my existing stuff no problem. I hope to see you guys again soon.
  2. So, the last thing I got done for this project, was a Chinese roundel decal. I had to start with one that had been painted onto a P-40 skin. Now, everything is a decal.
  3. So what is next. I Dunno. But whatever it is, it will have to wait until spring break. I am thinking another mini terrain (400 km square) to support the Battle of Britain. Stary has a Spitfire cockpit, and me thinks there already exists a nice Hurricane cockpit. The German aircraft will not be flyable. Here is a preliminary master. I need to paste in the dem data. And I may need to slide it to the west. German bomber air-fields will be off map.
  4. I created two mini terrains, Midway Islands and Rangoon. Both complement my Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal) terrain. Everything goes down in 1942, but the Flying Tigers are not featured since they had transfered back to US command. However, I did retain the AVG paint.
  5. Everthing I needed for the mod was found at Combat Ace in the SF1 download section. The Japanese aircraft are NOT flyable in the game. For each US aircraft, I provided a similar model for Great Britain. The allied birds were provided suitable generic Early WW2 cockpits created by forumite Stary. Imperial Japan A6M2 Zero, A6M5 Zeke, Ki-43 Nate, Ki-21 Sally, G4M2 Betty United States F4F-3 Wildcat, F4F-4 Wildcat, P-36A Hawk, P-39D Airacobra, P-40B Warhawk Great Britain, Martlet Mk.II, Martlet Mk.III, Mohawk Mk.II, Airacobra Mk.I, Tomahawk Mk.IIA In Britain, the P-39s were renamed Airacobra in 1941, but in the game I call them P-400 Airacobra.
  6. Well my WW2 project is at an end. I had until tomorrow, and I came in with over 24 hours to spare. I added 15 aircraft, including variants, and 2 terrains. I did not use a separate install, but combined every thing with WoX Cold War stuff. I only had to add a 250lb GP bomb, and the WW2 early pilot, which is used for all the aircraft. Everything is set for 1942 PTO and SEA. Here was the last aircraft included, the P36A Hawk, and the Mohawk Mk.II.
  7. You can recon Green Island until you puke, but there is always the inevitable intercept mission. We put up the whole squadron for this one. Once we get to altitude, we are cruising just west of Sand Island when we spot incoming Sallies with Zeke escorts. It becomes a bloodbath.
  8. This project does have some goals. Early WW2 (1941, 1942), PTO, use GP bombs, no more than 3 terrains, and make each bird a strike fighter if possible. Here we are on a Anti-Ship mission. You can just make out the cargo ship in the distance. After we sink the cargo ship, we do some recon over Green Island. It is part of the Kure Islands (Atoll), but it is the only island modeled. There is something going on there. Someone is doing some work in the old albatross sanctuary. We don't see a runway, so it must not be operational.
  9. My Solomon Islands terrain, and now my Midway Islands terrain are both 400 x 400 kilometers square. These are less that 1/6th the area of the WoX stock maps and they feature off map enemy air bases and carriers. And since there are few operations going on simultaneously in these terrains, the frame rates are very good. Below is a shot of Midway Islands in-game. The atoll and lagoon is not represented. The island near the horizon represents Sand Islet, but I removed it for the latest edition. From left to right the islands are Sand, Spit, and Eastern. The other shot, we are trying to scramble from the air base on Eastern Island, and notice the Zekes are trying to vulch us as we take off.
  10. It is amazing that I was able to complete this very simple terrain at all. Considering the holidays, considering Baylor choked its bowl game for the second year in a row, and considering the AC/Heater compressor now sounds like a helicopter engine. But here are some pics of the planning maps. Not much going on here. You basically cap Midway and there are some intense dog-fighting with the Zeros. And there can be some Anti-Ship action, when you get to take out errant Cargo Ships and Tankers that have strayed to close to Green Island in the Kure Atoll. I did not plot all the shipping lane coordinates on the planning map as I have done in the past. They will be identified during the briefing on the chalkboard.
  11. But can your fix be used in SF1. I am not planning on going to SF2 at anytime in the near future.
  12. Hi Raven, Thanks so much for the Info. I can assure you I would have never thought of that.
  13. Hi Guys, My WW2 section is going much better than I thought it would. I should be done with everything including several new mini terrains in a few days. However, I do have one issue remaining with the P-39D, and that is its center-line pylon. I am not sure if this can be fixed or not. Does anyone have any ideas.
  14. OK, so I am getting a little more used to this older treatment of the internals in the cockpit as seen from an external view of the aircraft model. Case in point, the P-39D again by Wolf. This aircraft uses a slightly tan color which creates a different appearance altogether. The canopy frame, is textured with a decal that makes it the green color of the aircraft. So far I am really liking Wolf's WW2 models. They are old. WoX is old. And I keep getting older every day.
  15. WRONG! That edit was performed to make sure your name was spelled correctly in the topic title! So, did you move this topic to this forum? DO YOU CONFESS?
  16. Hey Gepard! Want a few pointers to improve your terrain? Beware, I am no expert. Since this is the "What If" thread, check this out!
  17. As the original poster, I get to decide the topic. And that is what I have done. The topic is ... Midway Terrain v 1.0 by Gephard And the topic currently resides in the forum... Sci Fi, Anime, What If So, I will ask you one more time ... Did You move this topic into this forum? Please be aware, that when I use big letters ... I am NOT shouting! And everyone ... Please, lets get back on topic! ... So, do you need some help locating some Anime hangar screens for your terrain mod?
  18. Hey Gatling20, It doesn't look so bad from the side. Since I have them all ready to go. I will check the other birds out and just replace em over time. As it turned out, I was really confused on the different models and names. So this is what I ended up with. P-40B Warhawk - USAAF units; P-40B Tomahawk - AVG units; Tomahawk Mk.IIA - RAF units.
  19. Hi again Gatling20, Thanks for the heads up on the P-40 models. I don't know much about WW2 birds. I have been using Cold War stuff since I got WoV when it first came out. I just got really excited when I test drove this bird. And sure its old, but the model seems well done, IMHO.
  20. High Gatling20, You are correct. Just use negative numbers. The lower left corner of the map square is position (coordinate) 0, 0. The above map is 400 x 400 km square. So the base where the flight is originating (off the map) is approximately -20, 220. I only know this works in WoE 2006. I am not sure of any other version. In fact, since I have done a number of terrains with off map airbases, I am worried that this feature might not work in SF2, if I ever upgrade.
  21. Gephard, So please do not take offense, but I would like to make a few points here. 1. This Midway terrain that I have made resides on my PC at my home in Arizona. It resides no where else on Earth. So considering that fact, is it OK with you if I name the terrain whatever I want. Actually the name of the terrain on my PC is Midway CP. 2. Me thinks US Copyright law forbids the copyright of a title. Like a book or movie. Perhaps this law applies to a terrain name as well. 3. I like to make terrains as part of this hobby. It really doesn't matter to me if a similar terrain exists or not. I just like to make them. 4. I did not create this topic in this forum, it was moved here ... by someone. Did you move it here? 5. It is impossible for an unprivileged user (like moi) to delete the first post in a topic.
  22. Hi All, I have recently discovered some fun with WW2 aircraft. One in particular has caught my attention. Wolf's P-40B Tomahawk. This bird is fantastic in all respects, but it seems that some cockpit textures are missing, or perhaps not being applied to the cockpit interior. Does anyone know if this can be fixed just by a user, or must you have the 3D model generator? Here is an overhead screenshot.
  23. Hi all, I wanted to start this topic because me thinks I may be the only one that has tried using off map airbases. It is really easy to do. You don't need anything extra. But, using off map airbases may allow you to make smaller, more specific terrains, that are in some ways just as fun as other terrains. So, I use off map airbases in what I call a mini terrain. This type of terrain is one that is substantially smaller than the ones that shipped with WoV and WoE. The original terrains from Thirdwire represented 1,000 kilometers square. This is a very large area, and of course creating such a terrain took the developers a lot of time. A mini terrain can represent less space such as 400 kilometers square. So, with this method, you can plot the friendly airbases on the map. But then, you can plot the enemy bases off map. As it turns out, the WoX system is OK with this as AI aircraft can use the near target option, just like the human player.
