Great work people! Right as i was getting set to start my new campaign last week my comp pretty much died so i had to go out and pick up a new one today. It'll be another day or two before i'm back in action since i have to reinstall every little backed up thing and see if it works. If not i'll have to start from scratch. Glad to see more pilots up to the challenge! -

Considering just how many times i've been shot up in a SPAD, one has to find something positive to think about! -
WOE Advice...

This is just s few things i've thought about when flying fighter missions in WOE DiD. Seeing as we've had more than a few here that are new to the sim, i thought i'd make a list of things that might help. I can elaborate on them, but this ought to get things going. 1-The number one goal is survival 2-Your wingman is of more value than you are 3-Never enter a fight unless you're sure about how to get out of it. 4-Speed is life only if you have enough fuel. 5-All things considered, forget about turning with MIGs 6-A minimum of two flights should be used whenever possible. 7-Go high and let the enemy climb up after you. 8-Do your best to keep the fight at altitude 9-Maximum range for guns should be no more than 400 meters. 10-For the most part, ignore given waypoints, altitudes and timings. 11-Be aware of the frontline. 12-Egress should be plotted as carefully as the ingress. 13-Point blank + short burst = sure kill. 14-If at all possible, seek to escape from enemy fighters at high altitude. 15-The best use of AIM9 Bs are for breaking up bomber formations. 16-Every aircraft has certain traits that can keep you alive. Learn them. 17-Look for nearby fights to get some surprise kills. 18-Think offensively even if you are at a disadvantage. 19-When in doubt, go home. 20-In a big fight, the most important thing in the cockpit is the fuel gauge. -

My concern is dealing with AAA since now i'm flying something that is much larger than the SPAD i had so much success with. Only combat will show how durable the plane is but at least you are moving much faster so it'll make a harder target for the gunners. One can only imagine what will happen at places like Vihn and the Arrowhead! -

I thinking of trying an SU7 next but when looking around the downloads, i picked up the update for WOV Gold and was hooked by my first test flight in a B26K. Tommorrow i will get back in the skies for sure and fly that great plane into battle! http://combatace.com/files/file/10658-wov-air-ground-war-expansion-pack-gold-apr-2011-update/ -

WOE Advice...

Hey Derk, I've been doing some of the early campaigns so often that they are primarily what i had in mind when i was making the list. If you don't have to worry about SARMs or SAM, going in high is the way to go. Ideally you want the the enemy climbing up to you and getting low on energy. Once they are about 2-4 thousand feet below your altitude feel free to order everyone to engage. While you have the speed from the dive, they are basically wallowing about just trying to manuever. Your guys will get a lot of kills in that scenario. Keeping the fight high is to simply stay away from having to deal with orientation loss in clouds and losing sight of the bogey in clouds as well as having the ground to deal with as an extra added hazard. If you go and read back through my DiD reports over the past few months, you can see just how many losses my guys have suffered from going in. The high escape is something that is perfect in the 62 and 68 campaigns. My number one escape method for most aircraft(Yes, it depends on the situation)is to point it towards the front, do a shallow dive to build up speed, and stand it on it's tail in full burner. Burner off at about 20-25,000ft and keep climbing until 30-40,000ft where you level off at full throttle. F-102s and MirageIIIs for example, will handily outrun the enemy at altitude. Being high up also helps with fuel consumption as well as causing the enemy to burn theirs trying to catch you. I call it "Climbing the mountain" I even advise a climb to 20,000ft on egress for F-105s and a few other attack birds not only to ease fuel expenditure, but to give them the perch to dive back down to the deck if a MIG is closing in. -
Man, i remember learning the rudiments of programming on one in high school back in 1984! Two friends of mine had them at home and we had ourselves quite a computer gaming club going along with our RPG activities. Ah, the memories!

WOE Advice...

It's mainly due to wingmen being something of an afterthought to many people. I value mine and it really bothers me when i lose one. I'm a big believer in building up their scores and if they make ace, i make them element or flight leads. The usual thing i do in the initial stages of a fight is get them onto the whatever enemy i choose and make it a 2V1 fight. I can't count how many times a target was downed because either i or my wingman got the enemy so defensive that one of us got a good setup for a point blank kill. Once the fight develops i give them their own enemy to fight. So far my best wingman scored 38 kills (WOE-F15-79 campaign)He was a permanent wingman in a lead flight where every single member was a double ace! -

http://combatace.com/gallery/image/19450-o15/ 5NOV62 Alas, SR LT Oleg Petrov was downed after a furious fight against overwhelming odds. He was seen to bail out of his flaming MIG19 but no one saw any signs of a parachute. The area where he went down was right over the some of the heaviest fighting of the push towards Bonn. How bad it feels at the moment of victory over the imperialists. His final tally was 34 24 F-100s 7 B-57s 2 F-105 Thunderchiefs 1 EB-66 Destroyer -

We were tasked once again with escorting our bombers to the front. We did the same as the last time, take off and climb high to 9,000 meters in order to conserve fuel. The plan was to let the bombers go in ahead on their run towards the target while we pounced on whatever enemy fighters that would attack them from the rear. However we made some errors in managing our power settings and met the enemy 12 kilometers ahead of the bombers while still up above. The Yankess were very agressive and a number of them came up to engage us. We let them think they were in a superior position then broke formation and turned into them. One habit that annoys me to no end is that i find myself wasteful of ammunition with the initial bursts of fire. ALWAYS too heavy on the trigger. It normally takes a kill help settle down. Once again it was a demonstration of the superiority of the MIG 19 over the American F-100. We have noted that the only times we've suffered serious setbacks has been when we've been seriously outnumbered. With closer odds the MIG is virtually incincible. As long as one prevents onself from stupid errors, that is. SR LT Joseph Fedutenko was flying straight and level like a target and was downed by a missle just moments after MAJ Timofei Gnido lost control of his aircraft and crashed while fighting an F-100. Such an ignominius end to a fine pilot and leader! Fedutenko had no such luck as he bailed out over enemy territory and was taken prisoner by the Imperialists. Woe be onto him! To show some light in tha face of such ill luck, CAPT Nikita Nikulin, Captain Akmet-khan and i decimated the foe with myself being responsible for downing no fewer than five F-100s. A sixth got away as i had him firmly in my sights, pulled the trigger, and nothing. Out of ammunition!!! I cannot wait to see what can be done once the useless shooting is done away with! -
