Teen Series Fighters
Lt. James Cater replied to Slartibartfast's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Seeing as this poll is in the First Gen forum and so it's about the sim... Give me an F-15 any day of the week. The last time i took an Eagle into the WOE skies i flew until the campaign errored, and scored like a WW2 Luftwaffe pilot. My wingman managed to get 30+ kills. Hell, even #4 in my flight was a double ace. Too be honest, i've never flown the F-14 or F/A-18. The F-16 i had a neat experience with until nailed by a SAM. It was an incredible knife fighter, but lack of AIM-7 capability was a pain that led to a few casualties until the furball commenced. -
Who's already looking forward to World Cup Brazil 2014? I'm really hoping to get things together and head on down there. There are certain things one should experience in life and a World Cup is one of them. Back in 1994 i lived not too far from one of the chosen grounds, but i was all caught up in a maelstrom of happenings to even give the tournament more than an occasional glance on the TV. PS-The cops around my area actually celebrated when the English failed to qualify. Nobody wanted to get in the middle of the conflict between their hooligans and the absolutly armed to the teeth locals.

Back in December when the groups were picked, the Las Vegas sports books had Spain to win the Cup rather comfortably. Guess we'll find out soon.

Just wondering what tunes or bands one is hearing at the moment. Currently i'm listening to Mission Of Burma-A Gun To The Head CD. Song of the moment-This Is Not A Photograph

For some time i had Brazil and Spain to be the two top teams with Germany and Argentina not too far behind. Hell, i even thought England might have a decent go at it this year. So much for sports forecasting. The Teutonic football machine is now firing on all cylinders and destroying all opposition!

Is the A.I. cheating when dogfighting ?
Lt. James Cater replied to a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
They won't give up so easily all the time. While flying Mirages and F-102s, my getaway tactic was to go all out at low level until sufficient speed was built up for a full burner zoom climb. However, you can and will have MIGs chase you all the way to 40,000 ft! The main problem with MIG-21s is the climb makes you a perfect target for an Atoll if it has enough energy to hold the nose steady long enough to allow for a proper lock. I lost a few from my squadron due to that. -

Delta wing planes pretty much are the epitome of boom and zoom. You can get fancy every once in a while, but you better have a pretty good knowledge of what various threat aircraft can do while you are bleeding speed mixing it up. -
Probaly the match that demonstrates the true philosophy of football!

Many thanks for posting this. I used to play this game endlessly on my Playstation years ago and always wondered about trying to find a copy. Got it downloaded and set up. Guess i'll start right after my DiD mission tonight.

The Double D's
Lt. James Cater replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
http://combatace.com/gallery/image/12988-clipboard-2jpg/ I failed to post for a while since my F-4 pilot was shot down and killed by a MIG-17 and so to avoid burnout i started another campaign flying F-86s, but it didn't hold my interest for more than two missions. Looking back on the past, the most enjoyment i ever had was flying Spads in WOV. So here i am again. The goal is to fly two complete tours and break Jonathan Sykes' records and stats. I will begin tommorrow after i get home from work. PS- Go get em' Cliff! Show those Migs what you can do in a 106! -

Lt. James Cater replied to Lexx_Luthor's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I got turned onto 7-Zip here sometime after the ODS mod came out and i've been a devout user of it since. Really handy tool for opening certain downloads. -

The Double D's
Lt. James Cater replied to hgbn's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
http://combatace.com/gallery/image/12945-clipboard-e1jpg/ http://combatace.com/gallery/image/12946-clipboard-e2jpg/ http://combatace.com/gallery/image/12947-clipboardf1jpg/ Looks like i'm back in action! The Squadron was moved up to the front after spending time doing air defense in the UK. I seem to think that the higher powers are overly optimistic but orders are orders. In this first scrap we got an intercept not too far away from base. However, the weather was horrible and we eneded up in a swirling dogfight from ground level to 12,000ft. Personally i am disapointed even though we accomplished our mission. Considering the odds, we can't be going tit for tat with the enemy. They will bury us if we countinue to at such an exchange rate. I'm really sorry about LT Boyer crashing during the fight. He was a fine Interceptor pilot but obviously was found short when he had to dogfight. I managed to get two of the kills. Came up on a MIG-17 so fast that i could only just switch to the gunpod before i overran it. Also got a MIG-21 with an AIM-7 that was totally occupied by chasing someone who was running for it. That made him predictable and an easy set up. All other missles missed. Damned if the AIM9s can't keep on a hard breaking target. Better luck next time i guess. -

Don't you just hate it when your wingmen don't respond to orders and get killed? -

Group C is where all the drama is at the moment. This week is make or break for three of the teams. IMO, if England faces Slovenia like they did in the last match it's go home time, the earliest exit for them since 1950. If the USA don't fire away at the Algerian goal, it's also a trip home. Slovenia is in the catbird seat and has multiple options to enable an advance to the next stage and Algeria is in a perfect position to play spoiler. England VS Slovenia USA VS Algeria.

Glad to hear of another successful deployment coming to an end. Hope your downtime is well spent!

Since the UK cops are unarmed...Why don't you just mass up and rush the cordon? Should be easy as hell to penetrate the line and go to work. BTW, chances are good that any similar actions here in the US would probaly atract a few bullets.

One of the great things about the World Cup is the opportunity to wind up a bunch of all too serious nutcases on various forums. I'm working on one currently in Youtube and it's been fun so far! I want to see just how long i can keep this sucker hooked before he gives up.
