Squishy tofu is an absolute pet hatred of mine. If it isn't cooked to a certain firmness, i'm not touching it.

Another irreplaceable legend passes on. Even though i've always prefered Strats, i always had much respect for the Les Paul guitar as one of the great instruments. As incredible a guitarist Les Paul was, he was also an early pioneer in studio multitracking.

Differences
Lt. James Cater replied to Pratch's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
As much as i want to get the updated versions, i'll have to wait until i get a new computer. My current one is pretty much at it's limits. -
To be honest, i used to "Land Surf" in the back of my friends's pickup truck years ago. However, my reflexes were top notch back then from years of skateboarding and various athletic pursuits and i always had at the back of my head just how i was going flip/tuck and roll in case i wiped out.

Wingmen in WOE
Lt. James Cater replied to Viper16A's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Welcome to the WO* series of Sims . -
I used to work at a few National Parks, mainly Zion and Grand Canyon (South Rim) and damned if you didn't have the tourists doing some of the most incredible, near suicidal acts possible due to extreme ignorance on a near daily basis. Never underestimate capacity of human stupidity.

Best AI Loadouts
Lt. James Cater posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No matter what our favorite weapons loads are, the AI usually doesn't work that well with the same. Let's be for real, sometimes the wingman can be downright horrible with certain configurations so i figured that maybe we can share knowledge and info about what works best for our AI fellows. Recently i've gotten deep into flying A-7Ds in the WOE 79 campaign. After some trial and error i figured out a near perfect load for my #2. A dozen Snakeyes works wonders on the attack. Only once has someone missed a target and over certain areas the additional damage to the target area can be a well added bonus. All bombs are released one one pass and so you don't have to worry about unexpended ordnance slowing him down on the egress. While he goes in i'm loaded up with Shrikes and a couple of Mavericks (just in case) and am high up and behind him covering for a SAM threat. -

With certain weapons you might as well have left everyone back at base. A2A setups usually bring results but A2G is a big challenge. -

I guess everyone must have top secret weapons loads for thier wingmen Anyway, just finished the campaign and all went greater than expected. With the load described above the target was missed only twice. -

Glad you liked it. That was my wingman dropping a dozen Snakeyes. -

Fighter pilots make kills

Ever use the "Killer Flight" approach? When both elements are made of double figure aces you can really put the hurt on the enemy. -

SA-2s
Lt. James Cater replied to MaverickMike's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Remember, in this thread it's about SAMs you can see coming. In a info overload type situation SAM launches behind your 3-9 line can wreak havoc. Personally, i've gotten good enough at reading screens to be able to get a rough idea of an area's SAM threat potential enough for my flight to get in and out unharmed. -

If you are alone, all fine and dandy. If you are not you have to think of your fellows. To get your people in and out of a high threat area unscathed is sometimes of more importance than hitting the target itself. I know of one ocasion where a SAM missed me by so close that i swear went right over my left wing. While i was snickering at the miss the SAM kept on going and blew away my wingman who was about a mile back and up behind me. I also remember another time where we were egressing and at a point across the Red that i thought was safe for us. Damned if a SAM didn't thread the needle from 6 O'clock through the two following flights to get my #4 man. Hell, in WOE a few days ago i lost the best man in our squadron to a SA2 because i stupidly decided to change the intitial point in at the spur of the moment and SAM came up and got him not three minutes after we changed course. Personally, i never received any kind of warning on the RHAW. We had ECM and i ordered him to break but he still got it. -

In WOV, SAMs can really ruin your day if you're not careful. Personally, THE most important factor when route planning is where the SAM sites are. Remember, the majority of sites have overlapping coverage and the farther into RP 5 and 6 you go the more likely of multiple site launches. The SAM you dodge will not be the one that gets you and the more you manuver the lower and slower you get. Which leads us to the next SAM related threat...Triple A. Laugh now, but when some 14.5 or 23mm gun shoots up your clay pigeon target aircraft because too much energy was wasted avoiding SAM, you'll learn to have a healthy respect for the flak gomers and also to re-think SAM. -
To Drop External Tanks, or Not?
Lt. James Cater replied to Oswald Bastable's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
To be quite honest, i don't know. The Javelin is such a dog ( Future thread notice) that only under the most favorable circumstances will your wingmen be in a position to even worry about fuel consumption. Usually they are shot down before it becomes a factor. -
CCIP HUD question
Lt. James Cater replied to Angel's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I noticed the same thing. With a CCIP you can release higher with a surer hit potential than with a SWAG approach using the MK1. -
To Drop External Tanks, or Not?
Lt. James Cater replied to Oswald Bastable's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
The one aircraft that you really have to think hard about dropping tanks while flying is the Javelin. This is hands down the most voracious fuel guzzler i've ever flown. No matter how close the enemy is, ALWAYS keep your tanks until they are completely empty. -
To Drop External Tanks, or Not?
Lt. James Cater replied to Oswald Bastable's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
When doing Recce missions, to me at least, it comes down to a variety of factors depending on things such as aircraft flown, mission area, threat level etc, etc. I know in ODS flying RF-4Cs i rountinely dropped tanks before beginning a low level full burner pass over the target. When safe enough, i went to high altitude to enconomize on fuel going home. In RF-84s, the tanks only came off in a life or death emergency. Right now i'm in an A-7D during the WOE79 campaign and tanks are dropped during every deep strike. However, they tend to be either empty or damn near due to some roundabout routes that we have been using on the missions. -

Thanks a bunch, i just put the site in my favorites list. -
Man, how i hate these card playing SOBs. I've run into many of them over the years and all were as dispicable as this Gates character. Believe me, EVERY SINGLE TIME i dealt with the cops i always knew exactly what words to say to them to keep the situation calm. Hell, i was was in a cell in Jersey City years ago and the cops (Port Authority Police) offered to buy me dinner even if i tried to get over on them. They sure as hell apreciated that i was nice and polite with them even if did give them a line after getting caught jumping a turnstile in a train station as well as having in my possesion a good sized bowie knife. Guess what..... They were all White, i'm Brown and felt nothing but relief at walking after a few hours and not once did i feel dissed by any Officer, even by the ones who arrested me. I can imagine (Oh hell, i know only too well) the results of some fool stepping off into the face of a cop here in the Las Vegas area. The Police tolerate zero disrespect and everyone on both sides of the issue knows the score. This Gates fellow has just earned himself a place alongside that pimp Jessie Jackson in my personal rogues gallery. Racism my Brown coloered Latino A**! This dude just wants to get over.
