F/A-18A / CF-188 Hornet Hud problem and solution.
MigHound replied to MigHound's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have come across another aircraft with the same anomaly. The fictitious F-19 model. The Hud, again is a big laggy white box, so resize the pitch.tga in the cockpit folder to 215x2048 and the HUD works fine. -
Arthur: Old Woman! Man: Man! Arthur: Man, sorry.... What knight lives in that castle over there? Man: I'm thirty-seven! Arthur: What? Man: I'm thirty-seven! I'm not old-- Arthur: Well I can't just call you "man"... Man: Well you could say "Dennis"-- Arthur: I didn't know you were called Dennis! Man: Well, you didn't bother to find out, did you?! Arthur: I did say sorry about the "old woman", but from behind, you looked-- Man: Well I object to your...you automatically treat me like an inferior! Arthur: Well I *am* king... Man: Oh, king, eh, very nice. And 'ow'd you get that, eh? By exploiting the workers! By 'angin' on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the economic and social differences in our society. If there's ever going to be any progress,-- Woman: Dennis! There's some lovely filth down 'ere! Oh! 'Ow'd'ja do? Arthur: How do you do, good lady. I am Arthur, king of the Britons. Whose castle is that? Woman: King of the 'oo? Arthur: King of the Britons. Woman: 'Oo are the Britons? Arthur: Well we all are! We are all Britons! And I am your king. Woman: I didn't know we 'ad a king! I thought we were autonomous collective. Man: You're fooling yourself! We're living in a dictatorship! A self-perpetuating autocracy in which the working classes-- Woman: There you go, bringing class into it again... Man: That's what it's all about! If only people would-- Arthur: Please, *please*, good people, I am in haste! WHO lives in that castle? Woman: No one lives there. Arthur: Then who is your lord? Woman: We don't have a lord! Arthur: What?? Man: I *told* you! We're an anarcho-syndicalist commune! We're taking turns to act as a sort of executive-officer-for-the-week-- Arthur: Yes... Man: But all the decisions *of* that officer 'ave to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting-- Arthur: Yes I see! Man: By a simple majority, in the case of purely internal affairs-- Arthur: Be quiet! Man: But by a two-thirds majority, in the case of more major-- Arthur: BE QUIET! I *order* you to be quiet! Woman: "Order", eh, 'oo does 'e think 'e is? Arthur: I am your king! Woman: Well I didn't vote for you! Arthur: You don't vote for kings! Woman: Well 'ow'd you become king then? (holy music up) Arthur: The Lady of the Lake-- her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king! Man: Listen: Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some... farcical aquatic ceremony! Arthur: BE QUIET! Man: You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!! Arthur: Shut *UP*! Man: I mean, if I went 'round, saying I was an emperor, just because some moistened bink had lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away! Arthur: Shut up, will you, SHUT UP! Man: Aha! Now we see the violence inherent in the system! Arthur: SHUT UP! Man: Come and see the violence inherent in the system! HELP, HELP, I'M BEING REPRESSED! Arthur: Bloody PEASANT! Man: Oh, what a giveaway! Did'j'hear that, did'j'hear that, eh? That's what I'm all about! Did you see 'im repressing me? You saw it, didn't you?!

Aircraft Service years
MigHound replied to herman01's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, I think I see where this guy is coming from... for example, the stock F-15A for WOE has ten selectable service years in the Single mission menu, from 1976 - 1986. Whereas wpnssgt's F-15C model has only seven selectable service years, dating from 1979 - 1987, or so. On the other hand, the A-5B model has upto 20+ selectable service years attributed to it. So, either there is something in the individual planes' .INI files that I am missing or it is completely random. However, following USAFMTL's Options.INI edit regime appears to have worked for me. All the aircraft, with service years ranging from 1950 - 2040 all now fly within their assigned service lifetime in Wings over Europe. I was a bit skeptical at first, because I felt the options.INI file is more or less static, it will be rewritten, every time you select a different aircraft. But, so far it seems to work. Now, I'm about to jump back into the game and try it again... if you don't hear from me on this issue, again... I would say the issue lies elsewhere for this one persons' problem. One thing I might suggest is... it appears from the traffic on this issue, this person has both WOV and WOE installed... he should be sure that he is editing the WOE file, and not the WOV one. We're all human... it could have been over-looked. MiG Hound -
Mig-29 problems
MigHound replied to C46thVA's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I have also found that with all Soviet based aircraft, the loadout.ini files all seem to call the missile types by their AA- designation. (eg. AA-2 Atoll) I've gone against numerous fan made aircraft that are carrying no missiles... Mig-23MF/MS Mig-25 set, Mig-29 set... practically a turkey shoot. I found that the Weapons pack tends to call the Soviet missiles by their "R-" designation. (eg. R-3R Atoll or R-60T). So, you'll have to go into just about every Soviet aircrafts' loadout.ini replace all AA- entries with their R- equivalent. Now, I also find that missiles are date air aircraft sensitive, so you can't expect a Mig-21 in 1960 to carry missiles that are designed to be launched from Mig-29s. I have researched this, and I shall add a list of missile designations and the aircraft they belong too. It takes a lot of dickin' around, editing all these files, but at least you'll have a challenging adversary, in the end. good luck folks! All missiles below pertain to the latest weapons pack. MigHound replied to Typhoid's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
It's an F-16... but the "munitions" on the pylon is more of a Canadian Forces tactic... God knows we have so little in useful equipment anymore, we'd have to resort to such drastic measures. I'd be impressed if the guy had a gun in his hand. I'd be expecting to see a stick. -
F/A-18A / CF-188 Hornet Hud problem and solution.
MigHound replied to MigHound's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Glad to be of service... Glad it worked for somebody. I'm going on the assumption this method can be applied to other aircraft, should this anomaly be encountered again. Hey, it worked once, why not. -
Happy B-Day, USAFMTL I, too am relatively new to the forum, but... You are doing great work, here.

F/A-18A / CF-188 Hornet Hud problem and solution.
MigHound replied to MigHound's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Odd. However, everyones' system is different, there's no telling how software will react in any given environment. Keep trying different file sizes. One of them is bound to work. Try going smaller. It's just trial and error... worst case, you'll just have to download the aircraft again and replace your edited files. The other option is to do what USAFMTL suggested and reduce the cockpit textures to medium. ...best of luck. -

MigHound replied to MigHound's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
No, I wasn't willing to drop the resolution of the entire cockpit in the game to compensate for an anomaly for one aircraft. I found, the trick was to resize a single file, the "F-18_pitch.tga" file to something a little more manageable. -
Hey, what about this version of the F-19... is there any interest in making a model for Wings Over Europe? http://www.fantastic-plastic.com/MONOGRAM%...ALTH%20PAGE.htm if I had the software and the skill, I'd make it myself.

Does this skin include flight model variables to make the chopper fall out of the sky on a random basis, like our REAL ones?? Just kidding... had to make a political statement, there. They can hand over those new EH-101s anytime, now. Yes, I know they're hangar queens, somewhere, with no engines in them... -sigh- doesn't matter what Govt. we vote in, they're all...F#%^$%Q#$... grumble grumble grumble... Have a nice day. Actually, I have the skin... very nice work. -
Aircraft needed....

Numerous modern craft could be added to WOE, still... in fact, just about all the newest frontliners have yet to be added... AIDC Ching Kuo IDF (very cool Taiwnese fighter) BAe EF-2000A Typhoon II BAe/McDonnel Douglas AV-8B Harrier GR. mk-7 Dassault Rafale M Lockheed Martin F-22A Raptor Lockheed Martin F-117A NightHawk Panavia Tornado ADV Rockwell B-1B Lancer Northrop B2A Spirit Saab JA-39A Gripen Sukhoi SU-30MK Flanker Sukhoi SU-34IB Fullback Tupolev TU-160 Blackjack A number of older craft could be on the boards, too... I hope... Avro CF-105 Arrow (what if...) BAe 167 Strikemaster Bell P-59B Airacomet Blackburn Buccaneer S.2 Douglas F4D-1 Skyray McDonnell F-101 Voodoo Numerous heavies could ba added as nonflyers, too. C-5 Galaxy AN-124 Condor plus a variety of civilian traffic. Anyway, we all could ramble on about what could be useful... I'm sure they'll show up, eventually. The modellers are showing remarkable dedication to this series. -
combining sf/wov/woe
MigHound replied to crisisloaner's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I recall doing this... after receiving both games in the mail, I installed WOV, first, and then shortly after WOE was installed. The install program detected WOV and asked if I wished to merge aircraft, campaigns and terrain into the WOE install, and did so, seamlessly. In retrospect, being an old Jane's ATF fan, not even six months ago, I remember pining for the return of this particular style of simulator. I really love this series, now after scouring this site for over 150 aircraft, plus terrain and weapons systems. My WOE install now spans 7+GB. All the modellers, and contributers should give themselves and eachother a pat on the back. You have turned a potentially phoenominal sim, into... a phoenominal sim. Keep up the awesome work, and thank you. -
wings over europe combat
MigHound replied to Taffy's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Remember, all AIM-9s were all rear aspect heat seekers from models A - J. From what I can tell, only AIM-9L/M/S/X models are all aspect heat seekers and they were not produced until 1978. As for Semi Active Radar missiles, the AIM-7 Sparrow series, you need to set your Radar mode to Boresight, point your aircraft at your airborne target and allow it to get a lock. I have remapped all my keys for the game to make it playable, so, I can't recall the default key settings for this. -
