Maybe we should do a kickstarter and then just give TK the money Meh, if the guy is burnt out on SF2 development I understand fully, but that's the danger of one man shows.. Aaanyways, I don't see why a Kickstarter wouldn't be a good fit for TKs operation. It's not like it legally binds him to do anything, but gives him capital to hire staff to accomplish goals. And to clarify, I'm quite happy with SF2 right now, I'm a single player guy at heart and the graphics are good enough for me (with Starys magic the terrain engine is surprisingly versatile) but the potential for TK to monetize is huge if he would just leave his comfort zone. -

Do you know what I think TK should do? A) A free-to-play multiplayer dogfight game using the TW engine and resources, sort of like World of Tanks where revenue is based on micro-transactions (upgrade your plane, buy better weapons, buy new planes etc). F2P just to get more people to try it. From what I have understood many MMO games who have gone F2P have boosted revenue massively. This would of-course require some graphical spit-and-polish to make it more pleasing for the larger crowd. And hiring some more network programmers. And bringing a publisher onboard. Or going route B. B) Start a kick-starter or other crowdfunding scheme to launch SF3 that would feature all the stuff we would like to see, like a complete new terrain engine, more avionics tweaks and fixed clouds and whatnot. This would enable TK to go it alone and wouldnt need to make skins for food. Just my 0.02€. I am contemplating to post this on TKs board, but I don't think it would do much good.. -

There seems to be quite a bit of "mess" in the texture on the sides of the fuselage, this is because if you project a circular shape from above straight down the curvature will not get enough space on the 2d texture, giving the artifact shown. And in practice this means it will be impossible to add texture detail to that part. So if what's happening is what I think it is I would strongly urge you to fix it. It's such a pretty plane! If you need help fixing it just PM me bro and I will help you sorting it out! -
BMP or JPG?!

You shouldn't use JPG textures, we have been over this in other threads but basically it is more taxing for the GPU to decompress and render JPEGs than BMPs. A good middle way is DDS which is a compressed format BUT is made for easy handling and rendering by GPUs. Or just convert your BMPs to 256 colour palette, it also saves size. -

More progress: The textures are ofcourse only placeholders, the wings are not finished yet still some small details to be modeled. I am going away for the weekend so I don't know how much progress there will be the next few days but I will bring my laptop. Yeah I think so, I haven't looked into how it is set up yet but.. Does anyone know why my glass material is not showing up?? I had the same problem with the old model but forgot how I fixed it! -

Major step (for me): In-game and actually sits on the runway without blowing up Now where did those pilots go? Prospects for this projects are looking very good indeed! Almost all of the fiddly stuff is done, leaving only things I enjoy like texturing and uvmapping. Some final kinks to be straightened out on the fuselage before that and some minor details that need modeling + cutting out control surfaces and airbrake. -

Hi! Sophocles, I decided to go with the middle road, and used a selective meshsmooth as cocas suggested around the intakes. Some funny geometry there still to be straightened out but I think it does look better now. The wings are very barebones still, just cut out the gear doors otherwise still in one piece. But it's nice to see that you think it's going well, judging by your F-5 you know what you are talking about Soulfreak yeah there are a lot of skins that need to be done for this one, I will get in contact with you ASAP when I have the uvmapping & template done. I got the pylons and landing gear done (as in modeled & uvmapped) though, which is nice as they are slightly tedious to do: Gear doors left off on purpose -

Looks very nice! Who doesn't love Mirages? Are you planning to UVmap them to match the stock mirages so existing skins can be used? Might be a tad fiddly to get right to say the least but could provide advantageous later on! -

Yeah those are alright, only the A-37 dragonfly was affected.. But yeah, now I can make it even better. Mainly regret losing the pylons and other details I had made. No I never got affiliated with any Arma modding group and never really figured out the O2 modeling suite either. Nice to know that people are looking forward to this! And yeah, the new F-5A looks completely awesome! -

Those look great Paulo! I have some Hi-Viz skins in the work as you can see from the shots, but perhaps I should just give my working files to you? Or maybe you want to create your own? Either way works for me.. About the MiG-17PFs, yes maybe there should only be one sqn of those and the rest normal day fighters. According to some source I found Indonesia had at best 40 MiG-17s, but they were rapidly grounded when Suharto took power and killed off the communist party thereby ending Soviet support. My campaign asks the question "What if the PKI stayed in power and Soviet continued to supply airpower to Indonesia?" Anyways, in my current testing version the Badgers with Kometas always kill of the Ark Royal very early on. I need to tone down their deadliness, anybody got any ideas. They are also way to fast as it is, going almost Mach 2.3 while they should be cruising at Mach .9. sorry, but: f*cking hell! I just noticed that I have most probably lost the updated model seen above because I was careless when doing backups when I bought a new laptop... OMG I feel like bashing my head in the wall. Now I only have that crappy model i started out with... omfg. I had it on backburner waiting for a suitable terrain... I cant believe my stupidity. Backing up only helps when you remember all the files, folks.. Oh well, starting from the lowpoly original means fixing some stuff that was wrong. -

Thanks to the ever so friendly Piecemeal there is now a proper Tu-16KS with Kometas. On the first try out I was flying a F-4K out of Ark Royal with seven (7!!!) wingmen and found the Tu-16KS formation readily enough. I then started to expend munitions like crazy but ultimately two Badgers fired their missiles, and well... I also started working on some MiG skins since the ones avaliable was a little low resolution.. Still work in progress: -

OK, good, then I wont waste time trying to troubleshoot the issue.. Anyways, from some playtesting here are some stuff I'm going to change in the next version: More strategic nodes to fight over. Slow down the ground war a bit Try to protect the Ark Royal a bit more, it now got sunk by waves of Badgers. More land based interceptors? The missile carriers dont seem to work, probably a service date issue. Need a proper Tu-16KS with Kometas. -
