  2. Because of the flu preventing me from concentrating on the MiG-25 cockpit, I actually have played SF2 some. Since the release of the high res desert tiles I went for a Dhimar vs. Paran campaign, based on the Desert Duel camp set in 82 and fast forwarded it to 1995, which allowed me to run a mix of old and new aircraft. It's Dhimar and Paran only, no foreign forces, and let me tell you, this is the most fun I've ever had in SF2! I ofcourse fly the venerable F-4E, which still fares well against modern aircraft. The Parani MiG-29As are tricky though, mostly the R-73 Archer missile which has downed me once (down but not out) and some of my wingmen. Dhimar has also gotten a boost in the form of F-16As, with a new sand/blue livery. Ignore the double decals for now :P Ofcourse, except this high tech toys there are also more modest aircraft flying, like these: Nothing beats the F-4, tho Skins by me or TW, the F-4 is based on the very popular F-4F skinpack by Ravenclaw_007. I might put some of the skins up for DL once i worked out all the kinks, and got permissions ofcourse.

  11. The campaign is sometimes horribly difficult. At least with multi-role aircraft i always use the roster screen to add more planes to my flight and have one flight be equipped for A-A to cover me while I attack ground targets. The A-10 is however not really equipped to do this, and In the Euro camps I fly they do seem to get shot down. A lot of the "fighter mafia" criticism about the A-10s speed deficit seem to apply to a fictional WW3 conflict a lot better than in the actual conflicts it has served. If you have "lima" sidewinders you can always tried to get first blood on the fighters by going for a head on shot, something the R-60 and R-13 missiles wont be able to do (most of the time).
  12. Hey whats up with these great missiles?
  13. So, does anyone have the original source max files for the Jaguar. I've always liked the Jag and since Sundowners release it has a stunning exterior, but the cockpit is starting to look dated. A repaint might do a lot of good, but I was wondering if anyone had the original files, then it would be pretty quick to update it to 2011, as compared to making an all new cockpit (a time consuming process I've come to realize all too well )
  14. Ive tried a bit how higher res textures would look and the results are a bit unsatisfactory, due to how the mapping is laid out and generally because the pit is ultra low poly. It would be easy to add some polys, remap and retex but I'd need the max file. PM'd sony tuckson but no answer yet. *Fingers crossed*
  15. I'd be willing to give the Draken a shot at some point when I have my MiG-25s done, which might be a while. I can even offer to UVmap and texture someone elses model and/or make the cockpit to speed things along.
  16. mmmmhmm.. high resolution ordinance... *drool*
  17. I think we should make a good and up to date tutorial about making cockpits for Sf2 to help aspiring modders, starting with the purely visual stuff (modeling tricks, uvmapping stuff that is important, baking AO maps in 3ds max, normal maps, texturing tips) and then exporting, how to make all the ini stuff work. I know it's figure-out-able but this way we the community might get more hi quality cockpits! I'd be willing to put my base materials/photoshop files out for distribution as well as a sample cockpit file that could include a lot of "generic" stuff like switches, lights, buttons et cetera and dials and needles out for DL, sort of a "create a cockpit-kit" where the modder would only basically need to model the cockpit layout and any plane specific stuff. I know there are some great minds in this community and great artists (julhelm, krizis *cough*) who could give a lot of good advice! In other news, I'm making the throttle stick now, one of the more complex pieces for this pit...
  18. Thanks man! I tried to copy some of your techniques regarding the reflection in the glass, still havent nailed it but i think a basic reflection in the meters help the visual realism alot. Yeah, me too, but the real '25 has a very saturated blue color applied to it, all over... While the MiG-15 hadn't. I worked on the stick some, still WIP.

  20. I did some work one the cockpit after seeing this which, in essence, destroys my work at so so many levels So I decided to add some more polys, for the greater good.

  23. Hey Jonthan, just tried your campaign the other night, flying as a Tunnan pilot out of Luleå. I must say you did a good work! If you want some constructive crits, here are mine: -More units! Especially ground units.. I think we might have a problem finding suitable objects for the FDF in the 50s, it was after all mostly Geman WW2 era stuff in use then, and Finland was and is still an infantry and artillery army, none of which are featured prominently in SF2.. -Maybe more "second line" fighters and bombers in Soviet service, ie. WW2/prop stuff, not sure how much was phased out in the late fifties.. But a mix of MiG-15s and 17s would atleast be nice to make fights feel different. -A Soviet push trough the North of Finland and Sweden headed for Norway. According to many theories a year-round ice-free naval base in Northern Norway was the grand prize for the Soviet military. Also, maybe we should open a Separate thread for making Finnish Air force planes so they could be released in one pack, ease co-ordination? And maybe the same thing for Sweden?
  24. Gunsight work in progress.. I need your help guys to figure out some avionics stuff, more specifically where the Sirena 3m RWR is located in the cockpit. Here is some info i have so far on the device: Sirena RWR General: If Sirena3M owner is "lighted" by airborne or ground radar working in frequency Sirena3M is able to receive you will be informed about that by looking into light on display which will determine from where your primary threat is coming, and also you will hear the sound signal. Catch no 1: Your home airfield has landing system RSP7 or RSP6 and it is currently turned "on". This will cause all four channels of Sirena3M to activate and signalize threat, as soon as you leave your hangar, and in the air untill you go some 25km from home base. If you are on "Scramble" mission in war condition simply tell the ground crew to turn the bloody thing off. Threat in "search" mode: In case Sirena3M owner is "lighted" up by radar in search mode, sound signal as well as visual signal (light on display) will happen according to search period of detected radar. Determining from where your threat is coming from: Upper left light is turned "on": - Your threat is forward left from your current position (1/4-3/4) Both upper lights are turned "on": - Your threat is straight ahead (0/4) Upper right light is turned "on": - Your threat is forward right from your current position (1/4-3/4) Both right lights are turned "on": - Your threat is on your three o' clock (4/4) Lower right light is "on": - Your threat is coming behind and right from your current position (1/4-3/4) Both rear lights are "on" - Aaarrrgh! He is at your six!!!! Lower left light is "on": - Your threat is coming behind and left from your current position (1/4-3/4) Both left lights are turned "on": Your primary threat is at your nine o' clock (4/4). As your threat is closer and closer to you you can expect to hear/see your signals up to three times more often. Density of your sound signal increases rapidly and your lights are flashing now -> this means that radar of your threat is tracking you now (oh no!) As distance from your threat decreases finally all channels of Sirena3M will become active (and you won't have plain idea what is going on). This depends on strenght of your threat's radar, thus distance from your threat when this will occur is not fixed. Checking Sirena3 functionality while in flight: Turn your radar on, then activate "Kontr" (check) switch. It should report your own radar now. If it doesn't -> Sirena3 malfunctioned. @Blackbrid: I think that is a MiG-31 cockpit, the PD has the antique gunsight style, found a good pic in yefim gordons book. And yeah im planning to do the RB and BM too, but all in due time..
