  1. Damn you work fast (or you have A LOT of spare time ) you almost have a complete cockpit already!
  2. Yeah I'm gonna need some help, if nothing else then to understand the schematic Wraith provided, ie what button does what and what warning lights need to be made et cetera. Anyways, thanks to the schematic I've corrected alot of the cockpit layout, almost every single dial and button was off. And some where missing completely, like the third lower dial et cetera. Now it's starting to come together real nice, still alot of work to be done ofcourse!
  3. Damn, where did that come from? Now to learn me some russian :P And yeah if that is the trainer pit then it is of the same pit that I thought have been a MiG-25PD pit. Oh well, it will have to do, if damning evidence cant be secured that it is completely wrong for some reason. EDIT: Wraith we are starting to approach serious study sim territory here Oh well. And the PU pit should look pretty much like the PD pit right, to ease transition?
  4. I intend to do a pass at the complete MiG-25 too, unless ofcourse flogger23 has made a complete model at which point that would be unnecessary The reason why I do the cockpit first is that it is the tricky part, the plane is easy enough (ie not very complex shape and good reference material avaliable) Now, let's play a game called Name the instrument!
  5. Julhelm if you mean the background basic panels they are only place holders at the time being, but i took your advice and beveled a bit and generally tried to make stuff more smooth. Wraith27, aha okay so the feedback from the Lazur datalink is displayed together with the radar picture then i guess. More stuff that is impossible to model in SF2 Oh well, who cares
  6. @Wraith27: Very nice! Is that a schematic for the Saphir-25 radar scope symbology? @BlackBird: thx @Flogger: Yeah that might actually work, as we can read in YGs book the bombing computer was supposed to release the bombs automatically at a pre-determmined point. But a bomb cam might be a good work around! This mornings work, been working away on all the small pieces and panels. I've decided to UVmap and model at the same time as opposed to first modeling the whole thing then uvmapping, so progress is a little bit slower this way.
  7. Update pic, small progress but still
  8. Wow, you've come a long way! My suggestion regarding mapping would be to map everything with an ambient occlusion map in mind, ie do not reuse such areas that might get affected in some important way by the AO map (a good tutorial to get you started http://everflow.com/support/tutorials/AO/Everflow_AmbientOcclusion1.html). The AO texture blended in with the diffuse texture will take care of a lot of the visual realism I think. I probably think you could up the polycount somewhat too, to get nicer lightning and shading. Todays GFX cards can handle the polys! It's easy to get stuck in a mode where one conserves polys more than necessary, been there done that Just my constructive criticism, I wish you the best of luck.
  9. Several, but order of importance: MiG-25PD cockpit (ie improved interceptor) MiG-25PD exterior MiG-25RB pit+ext (modifying the above) MiG-25BM pit+ext (dito) and then maybe somewhere along the way, a regular P variant, U trainers et cetera... Which require more work ofcourse as they differ more from the above. The RB should be an interesting bird to fly, imagine bomging at Mach 2+ with eight FAB-500 retarded bombs from 60,000ft :P (how would you ever hit anything in SF2)
  10. Thank you very much Stary, you can't believe how much this helps my work! You really are a man of many talents :P As said before my pit is still very early WIP but it helps that the 25 has such as nice and clean pit with clear surfaces. Just wait until i get all the proper small bits and pieces in and start tweaking the textures :P With a good ambient occlusion map blended in I think it might look quite attractive. Now i hope to get as much dials as possible working to give actual cockpit feedback when doing stuff, but I really havent got a slightest clue how to model it apart from the simple self explanatary analouge gauges. Ideally, I'd really want atleast radar managment correspond to physical stuff happening in the cockpit, to cater to those who like to play on the HUD "hard" setting. Oh well. Anybody know any MiG-25 pilots? :D
  11. Thanks Wrench and Flogger23 for your help, and yes that book is a great read. I almost was late for work this morning as I started to read it. An interesting view into the aircraft R&D process in the Soviet Union in the sixties. Anyways, I think we need some bird that can blast the F-15A out of the sky in the '79 campaign :P As i previously stated I will be initially focusing on the MiG-25PD, the definitive interceptor variant, and from there make the older P interceptor, RB recce/bomber and BM sead-aircraft. I won't get much actual work done now in a few days, away from my work comp, but i can read up on the subject and plan some.
  12. PM'd you! Q: Are there any sample models available for 3ds max to show how to set up gauges and the like?
  13. Yeah, perhaps someone has got the MiG-25 book by Yefim gordon? I found this list of sources from Airwar.ru Wings of Russia. History and aircraft design bureau "MiG" Wings of the Motherland. Vladimir Ilyin. "The English hound" with red stars The world of aviation. Alexander Larionov. "Deli" or "do not sleep under the open sky" Aerospace. Yefim Gordon. MiG-25 Aerospace. Eugene Podrepny. Steel "Foxbat" in Nizhny Novgorod Fighter. Michael Nicholas. MiG-25 - fighter nesbivaemy Vladimir Ilyin. The fastest fighter aircraft MiG-25 and MiG-31 Still got a long way to go but perhaps I'll make it :P
  14. Here, just a little something i put together to show my appreciation for Sf2 and its mod community It is a little stuttery, since done on my laptop. WOuld have been alot better on my stationary computer but oh well, we work with the tools we have at hand. Hope you like it!
  15. Ah Baltika pardon my ignorance, I actually didnt realize Finland was covered already when posting this. I'm not exactly fond of duplicating efforts, but is there perhaps anything i can help with? For me it's either Angola or Equador/Peru to take a shot at, if I can figure out TE. I have done a bunch of terrain work for Arma2, for example, but the workflow is quite different here..
  16. Loving the Mirage 5BA DLC, low level penetration strike into East Germany to strike an airfield. Can bring in a bunch of fuel, ordinance and two 'Winders for self protection, all that you need :P
  17. As long as we are planning, how about this as a draft: Roughly 1500km square, allowing Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian AF to fight the red menance. In a number of scenarios it is possible that neutral Sweden might intervene to Finland's favor if the Red's pulled an assault. A Stockholm military coup might not even be out of the question if the Social-democrats proved too indecisive, or if the USSR started to get too rowdy in the Baltic Sea. Remember, Sweden had a pretty powerful army during the Cold War and a excellent AF. I'm finnish and lived in Sweden so I know the area, and the thought of flying here in SF2 tickles my senses :P

First draft for a Scandinavia map for SF2
  19. Hi I'm tryin my hand at terrain making for SF2 and have gotten so far as i have my selected terrain imported from DEMs, and all is well. I have created a custom textureset, so far only compromised of three basic texture types, sea, shrubland and mountain. There are no transition tiles yet either. SO now i want to autotile to get seat at the right places et cetera, but terrain editor always crashes when i do that. The terrain also crashes when i try to paint bucket fill my terrain with the sea texture, so I'm thinking it's related to that. My sea texture is just a normal 256x256 bmp, no fancypants stuff. TE refuses to open tgas, it seems? Hope someone can help.. Thanks!
  20. Ok, thanks guys for the reply, it seems i need to work some on the tileset first then :) I was wondering though, why does the texture map list not update when you open a stock texture list? I don't get it... It would be usefuly to have a stock as a template... Dont get it.

  23. To change screenshot format, jut change it from JPG to PNG in your options ini, you should find it easily.. More action shots that are post processed a bit in PS:
  24. Some random shots, now taken in png to improve qual.. Edited some in Photoshop to work better.
