Maybe a bug of the Israel2 terrain
Mur posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi all, I have a problem with the Israel2 terrain by Gepard. The terrain is pretty cool but if I start the mission on a runway, my plane blows up and I die. I use WOV with service pack installed and the last weapon pack. Hoping this is not an already discussed topic. Best regards, Mur -
Hu guys. First of all, I think the idea of such a forum is great. Second, my question -trying to be as more concrete as possible: sometimes in a dogfight, 1vs1, I have the bandit on my tail. In your opinion, what is the best manouvring I should make in order to put myself on the tail of the bandit? I can try to turn on the left or on the right, but these turns cause a decreasing of my speed. Or, I increase my altitude and my speed, but I lose a lot of fuel. I have tried an inverted S, decreasing my altitude but earning kinetic energy; often this is not useful, since the bandit is faster than me and is able to follow me. What do you usually do in this situation? Greetings, Mur.

trouble with 3rd party terrain
Mur posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi all, and hope to not create mess with this topic. I have installed several 3rd party terrains, and followed LITERALLY ALL OF the instructions given here: http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?showtopic=12230 I can use maps in Wings over Vietnam, airfields work well, but I have a problem with my aircraft when I take off: even with no missiles and tanks, the aircraft is very SLOW and needs more than the runway to get the proper speed for the take off. This happens ONLY with my aircraft, since the wingman can take off properly. This happens with AmericaNW and AmericaNWgreen terrains. Does anyone has the same problem, and/or can understand the reason of this behavior and/or solutions? I have imported other terrains like Israel2, Salomon islands, Himalaya, Falkland, and I have NOT the same problem wiht them. Best regards, Mur -
trouble with 3rd party terrain
Mur replied to Mur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
I would like slightly modify my above post: I experience the trouble aforementioned with the terrains americaNW and AE (it should be madagascar). I have tried with several planes, both empty and loadout with tanks. IN both cases I get extremely slow aircrafts. To be more specific, the plane has a low acceleration on the runway, while when I take off the speed increases as it should. Best regards, Mur -
Thanks a lot, both to paul and to cargo. Of course I know that my question is too wide, and there is not a unique answer. But in any case I have learned some tecnique I can use. More specifically, I usually (almost always) use the F14A (or D) for dogfighting, and my favourite opponents are MiG 17 and MiG 21, even if MiG 25 and 29 are good guys too. In my opinion, it would be great if some tutorial material about ACM would appear in this section of the forum. Best regards, Mur

How to save a champaign ?
Mur posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi all, I have looked for this in the forum but I have not been able to find the answer. My question is: when I start a new champaign, I am asked to save to a file, usually it is "Campagna di TopHarley.4", or something like that. When I finish a mission in the aforementioned champaign and I press ESC to close the game, and the day after I try to open the champaign, I am not able to find the file and I have to start again from the beginning my champaign. What am I missing? Thanks a lot, Mur -
How to save a champaign ?
Mur replied to Mur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Pretty kind suggestion. Since I have the Italian version of the game, the OKAY should be the ACCEPT key? anyway also pressing such a key, nothing happens. P.S. of course I do not die during the champaign, I simply press ESC once I have accepted the result of the succesfull mission. -
Heat Seekers Uncaged Mode?
Mur replied to JG14_Jagr's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Usually the heatseeker A2A missiles (like the Sidewinder) do not need any RADAR locking of the target: indeed, as the name HEATSEEKER suggests, the head is auto acquiring, in the sense that it feels a heat source with no need of a radar acquisition of the target. To understand if there is a lock of the target you have to listen to the sound: when you select a Sidewinder, there is a soft sound which becomes harder if the head of the missile has locked a target. It is NOT a radar locking. I usually use hard settings in my WoV, and my dogfights are sight-based, in the sense that I use the map and the indications of Red Crown to understand where the enemies are, and soon after I try a visual contact. In this way there is no need of boxes on the target. If you have a look to the Thirdwire forum, you can find some useful tricks for using a SIdewinder in a dogfight. I stress again: the heat seeker does not need a radar locking. The red box on the enemy, when you want to catch it by a sidewinder, is purely fictional. Hoping this is helpful, Mur -
Gunsight: switch off/on
Mur posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi All, I wonder if it would be possible, in WoV, to add a button to switch off/on the gunsight, as can be done for the radar. Regards from the first temple of the Zodiac, Mur -

Maybe a bug of the Israel2 terrain
Mur replied to Mur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Unfortunately this does not help. Indeed in the last release of the israel2 terrain there is a .ini file devoted to WOV and in such a file the pointed CatFile is already setted to VIetnamSEA.cat....... -

The terrain is pretty cool but there is a thing that I do not understand: If I start my mission on a runway, my plane blows at the beginning. What the hell is this ????? -
Cool Video

Hi, the video is pretty cool and its music too. I wonder if low flying is a good tactice to avoid enemy's radar also in the simulator WoV. Mur -
Red Crown request for help
Mur posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi all, it's Mur from the First temple of the Zodiac. I have a question: In Wings over vietnam there is a radio channel for talking to Red Crown, tipically by the key sequence tab --> 7 . The first option is "Request for help" . Fine, but each time I need help and ask to Red Crown, she always tells me "Sorry, all our fighters are not available" or something similar. In little words, there is never help. Do you know if this is the default and if it can be modified????? Sometimes I really need help.......... -
Tomcat: the correct landing data
Mur posted a topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi, it's Mur. I have a question to all of you who love flying with Tomcat in WoV. I set to HARD my game. With these settings I can land almost every aircraft BUT the Tomcat: in particular, I am able to reach the airfield, but when my Tomcat touchs the ground it begins to bounce and has to do that four-five times before I can open the brakes of the wheels. My usual vertical speed (indicated by the climb) is comprised between 10 and 20 feet per second, and the maximum true ground speed is 150 knots. So, what am I wrong? Accepting every sugestion, bye! -
Tomcat: the correct landing data

That's pretty fine, but what is the realistic value for this spring value in a Tomcat? -
Hey guys, it's Mur. I come here for a request: is it possible to model an F/A-18E ? See for example the link below http://www.anft.net/f-14/merch-printx-fa18d-01.htm there is also a RIO in this aircraft (so it looks more funny). I have no experience with aircraft modelling in WOV so I am not able to do that guy, but maybe someone of you can do it.......... It would be fine if the HUD of this aircraft had the green square when a bandit is locked by the radar, like the F-16 and F-15 do. c u soon, Mur

Hi, it's Mur. Does anyone of you know this guy? http://www.vflintham.demon.co.uk/aircraft/efa/efa.htm Has column5, mirage factory or something similar planned to do that? Regards, Mur

Hi everyone, it's Mur from the First Temple of the Zodiac. I was wondering of the large amount of technical informations on this forum and SimHQ, regarding customization of WOV (as well as WOE and SFP1). At the same time, I wonder myself for the missing informations about customization of HUD display. A large part of the technical posts are due to USAFMTL but reading a his post I guess he is no longer interested to write such a posts in this forum. Is anyone of you able to write a technical tutorial on HUD customization? FOr example, just to understand what I mean, I have a quick question: Both on the F15 and the F16 (and now, thanks to Caesar, also on my Tomcat), a green square appears in the HUD when a bandit is locked by the radar and is in the direction of the HUD display (those of you that fly F15 or F16 know what I am referring to). I would like to copy this feature to my F/A-18 Hornet HUD. What have I to do????????? Thanks a lot, Mur

Red Crown request for help
Mur replied to Mur's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Hi Kazama, and thanks for your suggestion. The files in the speech folder are T1rhno001.wav T1rhno002.wav T1rhno003.wav I guess I am substituting them with three Joe Satriani "a la Top Gun" musical themes! -

UCAV EDI (Stealth)??!!
Mur replied to zero1986's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Sci-Fi/Anime/What If Forum
It would be really fine if someone could make a playable model of the stealth. Is there any section in this forum where one can post a request for an aircraft?
