Royal Marines dissmised for striking a bomber...
Revvin replied to Slartibartfast's topic in The Pub
Sadly you are right but I fear too many people are too blind to the Labour party and they will get back in. Time to look at emigrating if that happens! Sadly the Labour party lied to everyone to take us to war but did not have the gumption to see it through with a strong will. Lions led by donkeys has never been more true while our troops die every week, their commanders call for more equipment while Whitehall pay their desk jockeys bonuses that are way in excess of a soldiers salary. -
Royal Marines dissmised for striking a bomber...
Revvin replied to Slartibartfast's topic in The Pub
Quite frankly it disgusts me that a Royal Marine with 18 years service, sent around the world in service to his country has been treated like this. His own account was covered in a newspaper in the UK and unsurprisingly the BBC chose to cover the story making it sound like a ritual beating. Sergeant Leader's own account explained how Mr Ekhlas put up a fight when he was discovered planting the IED with another man. The other man was shot trying to escape - Ekhlas did not come quietly. He was taken to a tent where a female MP took pictures of his injuries. She apparently cut off the plastic restraints so he could pray and then left the tent but left two Marines guarding him. When Sergeant Leader returned to the tent to check on progress he found the female MP had left and did not see the two guards past the flap of the tent so when he saw an unrestrained EkHlas he charged at him and grabbed the first thing to hand - the boot. Ekhlas was found planting an IED, they should have left him face down in the sand with a bullet in the back of the head as far as I'm concerned and nobody would have to worry about it. Instead they followed procedure, gave him his 'rights' and this is how they are repaid. They have lost friends to IED's out there but the corrupt police let him go without charge. Sadly it was the female MP who gave evidence against the two Marine's. -
I clicked on the wrong link while searching for porn, this was supposed to take me to nekkid pics of llama's....ok well actually I came here when it was BioHaz looking for LOMAC stuff.

Lions led by donkeys, Scargill started the miners strike with a big union and a small house and ended it with a small union and a big house.
-
Its workers are led by one of the last militant unions in this country and just like the CWU is doing with the Royal Mail they will destroy the service.

I also remember discussions around that time about the industry wanting to downsize packaging to look 'greener' and so everything came in DVD boxes with no space for a nice chunky manual. I like the 1 1/2 width DVD box that Rise of Flight came in but its still not wide enough to fit a decent manual inside but the nice card key chart makes a welcome return.

I remember being able to walk into the Virgin Megastore, Menzies and Electronics Boutique and seeing row after row of PC games. Now its all console stuff and the PC games have followed suit and are all in DVD boxes. I'd happily pay more to have a box with a chunky manual like the ones we used to get in the Microprose days. It felt like you were actually buying something special with that large box and manual that would keep you occupied even when you were away from your computer - especially the Falcon 3 and 4 manuals. I remember the glossy Microprose manuals for games like Knights of the Sky, Silent Service, Gunship etc and they all had a picture of the Microprose CEO 'Wild Bill' Stealey in the back. I was quite pleased to see Rise of Flight came in an over-sized DVD box - a little thicker than normal and contained a separate cardboard keyboard layout - its been a while since I saw one of those included with a game, at best they print one on the back of the DVD booklet. I just had a clear out of old discs and manuals that I'm giving away to a friend and just flicked through a couple, Mig Alley, Flanker 1, Apache Havoc, Janes F15 and Janes F18...ahh those were the days. OK you can wheel me back to the duck pond now to nap!

I was interested to see what they were going to come up with but to me it looks like they rushed it out the door and missed some key features like no multi-tasking, no flash support, no camera. I can understand their reluctance to allow Flash as it would allow users choice and not what they are given from the appstore. If you're looking for a tablet device then wait and see what the Android powered tablets feature or buy the HP Slate that runs Windows 7.

Its more than likely down to cost. Sadly our Government doesn't treasure all that makes Britain great and there have often been rumours circulating that funding was to be cut until strong public support was shown and then it quietens down again.

I never could get into the Wing Commander games, it was X-Wing all the way for me, then Tie Fighter and the sequels. I remember shopping at the Virgin Megastore and buying X-Wing and the original SoundBlaster sound card and also picking up a demo disk they were giving out free for a game I'd never heard of...it was called Doom :) The thing with X-Wing was it seemed to get you into the thick of battle quicker than the other space games. There was no farting about looking for the enemy they threw them right at you. I spent a long time fiddling with boot disks to free up EMS and XMS memory in my monster 4mb 486 DX25 with its colossal 214mb HDD :) A few years at one of the E3 shows I spoke to a guy who worked for Lucasarts and I asked him if there was ever any plan to do a remake of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. He told me it had been discussed but the people at the top thought it would not be financially viable and that they were putting their development money into third and first person type games :(

Before anyone gets too carried away the image is using renders of the HOTAS which will be shown to military contractors at this years IITSEC event. -
I felt like a change so after two years of XBOX 360 ownership I traded it in for a 60GB PS3. Nothing wrong with the 360 format, just wanted to try something different and got a good price on trade-in. I'm liking it so far, the cross media bar or XMB is familiar as I have a PSP and I like the PS Store layout better than the Xbox Live Marketplace's static lists as the PS Network is laid out more like a web page but perhaps thats just my familiarity with browsing sites on a PC. I got Motorstorm and Resistance: Fall of Man and Spiderman 3 on Blu-Ray (though I don't have a HDTV but it was free so what the hell!) Motorstorm is a lot of fun, arcade dirt racing but its a good laugh. Resistance: Fall of Man is like a cross between Gears of War and Call of Duty 3 as its a fictional story of a genetic experimentation at the end of WWII gone wrong so you have zombie/alien type infestation and you play the role of a US solider who gets send in with a group to take them on - well thats the story in a nutshell...kinda :) Anyway so far so good, looking forward to seeing CoD4 on it

As this is the Prologue version its going to cost less than your usual titles, I have it on pre-order for £17 instead of the usual £40 price for a console game.
-
You may get it in the final version of GT5 due out late 2008/early 2009 but thats the featre list as it stands for Prologue, still plenty to keep me occupied.

Odd that they denied it yet confirmed today they are cancelling HD-DVD production -Toshiba's own web-site press release The 360 Blu-Ray add-on is just a rumour and one met with some scepticism from this site: http://xboxfamily.com/xf/index.php?option=...09&Itemid=1
-
If true (afterall Reuters seem to be reporting a rumour?) its about time it was brought to an end. There was no way back for HD DVD really with only Paramount staying HD DVD exclusive as Universal did not resign any exclusivity deals. Wal-Mart were going to stop stocking HD DVD players after May in favour of supporting Blu-Ray and Netflix also announced they were only going to be stocking Blu-Ray in future. People keep talking about digital downloads but until the network infrastructure around the world improves it will struggle to catch on. With hi-def TV's now becomming a lot cheaper the market will grow and a single hi-def DVD format is needed so consumers can make a decison on their home entertainment.

Just wondered if any of the racing sim fans planned on buy this game? (links below) Official Site The Sim Factory's Official Site
-
Yes RACE 07 is still the sim that holds my interest the most but I have recently got back into watching Nascar and the offline AI is suppossed to be pretty decent so I am tinkering with the idea of buying it. I'll be keeping an eye out for any reviews.
-
There is offline AI and its rumoured to be quite good too, I've seen comments passed that its a big step up from rFactor's stock car AI (rFactor being the engine used for this game)

I've looked a little further for comments on the bully boy tactics allegedley played by iRacing, I found this comment from a member of the 'SimFactory' who are close to releasing their ARCA Sim Racing game: This is the link to the forum thread - 1st reply Then there is the post at the bottom of this thread: With a further reply on the second page of that would perhaps link the comment above with ASR -

Revvin replied to Dagger's topic in Racing Simulations General Discussions
There was a post at RSC which got deleted which implied iRacing were petitioning tracks they dealt with to stop other sim makers getting licenses to use the tracks in their games. Seems pretty underhand to me if true and I don't see how any racing sim fan or racing community site could support that if there is a shred of truth to it. -

Revvin replied to Dagger's topic in Racing Simulations General Discussions
Unfortunately I've had posts deleted at RSC for not rolling out the red carpet and hailing the messiah David Kaemmer I'll be keeping an eye on developments of this but it will have to be monumentally better than anything we have right now to tempt me into paying not only a subscription but then also for cars and tracks. $15-$25 per track is an unrealistic amount of money to ask for IMHO. Its irritating to see people being called cheap and wanting something for nothing just because they are not in favour of the price plan. I paid $2 an hour for the online sim 'Warbirds' back in the early 90's with a long distance phone bill on top. If its worth paying for I'll pay for it but when there is no free demo available then they are going to be out of luck getting a subscription from me.
