Sandy, yes I'm sure you are right about there being many red rock areas. The problem is being limited to one moutain color to represent all mountains in the map area, so its a tradeoff. Now if the game could support various soil/mountain color overlays, that would be cool!

View File Enhanced Hi-res Terrain Set for Wings Over Europe This terrain set is based on the Wings Over Europe default terrain tiles. It maintains the layout of the original terrain, and leverages many of the base textures. However, the overall color scheme, graininess, and shading of the original has been improved, along with many tweaks here and there. I've finished a winterized version of my hi-res terrain and it is available for download from my site: http://www.xmission.com/~mmagleby/eaw/first_eagles.htm Will also post it to the download area here. Included in the download are winterized hi-res buildings. Also, the readme explains how you can make the terrain be selectable in game when flying Single Missions (with FE patch #2). Many of the replacement buildings use completely new hi-res textures, while a few buildings are enhanced versions of those included with the game. View File 1024-res Terrain Supplement for Hi-res Terrain Set This is a supplement to the Hi-Res Terrain Set by max188. It replaces a core set of 512x512 hi-res tiles with 1024x1024 tiles. You will notice increased detail in the main fields, trenches, and airfield at low altitude when using these tiles. This requires the Hi-Res Terrain set to already be installed. I've updated the terrain set with some changes- the rivers have been darkened (thanks Sully), and some other minor fixes. I've lowered the bitdepth of some of the tiles with no impact in quality. The result is the terrain loads faster in the game, and the download itself is about 1/2 the size. Also added a new download that includes some supplemental 1024-res tiles. You should see more detail in the main fields, trenches and airfield at low altitude if you use these.

It replaces all of the default terrain with repainted 512x512 tiles (most of the default is 256x256). This terrain set preserves the original locations of the trees and fields, and leverages some features of the original terrain. The result is a landscape that still has a similar feel as the stock terrain, but with much greater detail and visual interest. Further info and link to full readme here.
