"It burst into flames! It burst into flames, and it's falling, it's crashing! Watch it! Watch it, folks! Get out of the way! Get out of the way! ... It's crashing terrible! Oh, my, get out of the way, please! It's burning and bursting into flames, and the — and it's falling on the mooring-mast. ...this is one of the worst catastrophes in the world. Ohhhhh! It's–it's–it's the flames, oh, four- or five-hundred feet into the sky and it ... it's a terrific crash, ladies and gentlemen. It's smoke, and it's flames now ... and the frame is crashing to the ground, not quite to the mooring-mast. Oh, the humanity ... " Herbert Morrison Looks great! Any chance this will work on the L63 zep? On a large scale of course -
I LOVE flying the early SPADs, thank you modders and skinners. Their hey-day was an interesting period of the war where you still see early obsolete AC like the DH2, Fokker EIII, and EIV Eindecker, but the latest Albatros fighters were also present. I've had some amazing 'single missions' where nearly a half-dozen different randomly generated aircraft were in the skies at once. This very minor mod to the cockpit.ini of all the SPAD VII's (150 and 180) as well as SPAD XII, repositions the cockpit model itself (from 3rdWire SPAD XIII) for best aesthetic result to reduce poke-thru of the aircraft mesh. I'm sure I could have fussed around some more, but there will always be a very slight poke thru and size misalignment though, so don't expect miracles. This makes a nice difference if you've got TrackIR. . . . [CockpitSeat001] ModelName=S13_cpit.LOD HideExternalNodeName=cockpit OpenCockpit=TRUE ExternalClipDistMin=0.01 // left-right, +forward-back, +Up-Down Position=0.00,-0.77,0.583 Offset=0.00,0.00,-0.05 //Stock FM //Position=0.00,-0.745,0.589 //Offset=0.00,0.050,-0.038 ViewAngles=0.0,0.0,0.0 . . . Edit: Sorry, should have posted before and after screenies, but it really does make a difference.

What he said... thanks! -
Just what is it you all are doing?

That just makes me laugh each time I read it... With the renaissance in FE, and WWI in general lately, I admit I've strayed of late. Now I'm having some trouble catching up and figuring out what needs to be done. Can it be as simple as "The StallMoment Line " tweek.... mentioned??? I know TK patched that venrable old lady SFP1 last year, but also released that which I haven't purchased -- SF2. To be a Prophead [NB capitalized...] and utilize the 3rd party updates, do you need to buy/run the new version? Thanks... -

Kinda makes you wonder if he is lurking somewhere on these threads... edit: the actual link to his WWI fabrication site is HERE AND it is a very cool website, go check it out! -
Stock terrains update and new effects pack
Bandy replied to Stary's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
That will be an awesome improvement to the down-low look and feel!!! I can hardly wait to try it out. Now, if only hitting those trees would tear off the undercarriage, etc... [sigh] Gotta dream... PS: is it only some distortion in the RoF screenie, or is that Nieup tail a bit too long? Please correct me. -
Thanks gents, I didn't want to spend a lot of time on trying to tweak this thing only to find out it won't work. I barely find time to fly as is anymore... I've already bought Win7 on advance for less than $50 and hope that the 64 bit version will run well to allow me to utilize all the RAM I have in my system (work life on MacPro partition, fly on my PC partition...). So far, have heard good things about hardware compatibility with the 64 bit, but didn't try the 7RC myself. BB

Just checking back into this thread... Jan those trees are a great addition and look great! When/If mixed in with the others will be a great improvement to variety. Thank you! Are your trees based on the '2D-crossed-surface texture' (what would you call them?) as TK uses, or more 3D like OFF-BHAH? There seems to be so much activity in the FE community lately, like a renaissance almost... Awesome!!!

As somebody mentioned in another thread, we've got 3rd party crash smoke (thank you) BUT how about crash wreckage??? If a bomb can make a crater, can't a crashed AC leave behind a wreck?

@ A6Intruder, Not sure why you are using the the mod enabler for seasonal terrains anymore. TK has incorporated in game calendar settings for seasonal shifts. If you are flying a single mission, YOU choose the date/season from a drop down list based on aircraft start/end date. No mod enabler required! Much simpler!!!! In campaign, the season is set to the campaign date. If you have another use for the mod enabler that I can't figure out, please let us know. Stary! Really looking forward to this! Thank you very much. -
Finally! Some colour for our Camel buses!!! They look great, thank you. I'm always envious of my opponents' ability to personalize their crates.

The pictures pretty much speak for themselves. That sockleflak IS INTENSE! Despite some evasive manoeuvrings on approach, I did finally have to straighten out to fire my rockets. That's when I got hit, BOTH SIDES. It was a very strange feeling seeing your wings fluttering away from your bus, yet still be under near perfect control. I circled the bag a few times before trying to ram it (my rockets were lost), then found that I could literally fly through the balloon! Now, I know that some weird unexpected things happen with FM's and DM's interactions, so perhaps this is just a rare occurrence that we'll have to live with to enjoy other aspects of the excellent FM, but just thought I'd share in case it can be corrected.

I only managed to install and get one mission in last night (so have not explored it fully), but Wow! I'm liking this mod so far. Balloon busting dawn mission starts on the field, the sun is barely rising, and low inky storm clouds surround me and my wingman. Skirting, the cloud ceiling felt very real. The only detraction was some "banding" showing up, sort of like what might appear if I was running the game in 16 bit, but it was only intermittent and likely worse because of the inky blackness I was enveloped in. (NOTE: the screen shots look a lot brighter, and more flat, than my in game experience) We managed to somehow find the balloon only to be confronted by Tailspin's sockleflak guns (I only recently installed Peter01's campaign files...thank you sir), so WOW!!! That was intense!!! Somehow managed to hole the bag with some rockets, but I don't remember them being this inaccurate before, or maybe I'm confusing them with the OFF Le Prieur. Nice realism here folks!!! FE has been making at times slow incremental improvements since 2006, thanks to TK and every person making a contribution to the community, but I have to say this game brings me back every time.

Just downloaded at work so haven't tried it, but this sounds very promising. Thank you for your effort! And will reply... I've only recently installed a re-make of Wide Sky for SF (LINK) into my FE install and was quite happy with the results even though it isn't supposed to work in FE...

Those tiles look absolutely amazing! Thank you for your efforts!!! There are some very subtle seasonal changes. Love the snow! I'm sure somebody reading this can offer expert opinion on this question: Is there any way to get better trees into FE to improve combat experience down low? One thing about OFF that I have to admire, it plays SO WELL down low, the trees are great.

You know how you sometimes regret posting stuff, sort of like, "Doh! Did I say that out loud?" Oh well. :blush2: Apologies if I offended anyone, I certainly did not mean to place myself on par with those super prolific people who contribute all those AMAZING downloads. I have no idea where they find the time of day to work on their mods AND time to fly, let alone time for family, and of course the day job (notice that I say that last...). Thank you, I applaud all of you

Werner Voss - The Last Flight (Video and Mission)
Bandy replied to Hansa's topic in Thirdwire - First Eagles 1&2
Hansa, unless this is for beta testing, why don't you upload the file to the Downloads Section? -
I have to strongly agree with you here TS (and sorry you aren't a moderator anymore, but will still enjoy your posts!). I can't/don't consider myself a modder, but made a very humble effort to tweak and fill in some terrain tile gaps for Cambrai and Vogesen from existing tile sets (just to add some variation to seasons) and I got exactly one comment after I uploaded the files HERE (though a few folks helped to get it there...thank you) and none for THIS ... Now, I can see that at least some people downloaded my efforts, but whether they liked or continued to use it is another matter. Now, I ain't looking for undeserved praise, I ain't looking for gratitude, just SOME reaction would have meant somebody had something to say about it. For a while it turned me off this community, because sometimes it feels like a club, but I got over it and will continue to pester people. So here I go again... @ Jan, I think your work has real promise. My comment on your tile is that none of the farmers fields look large enough to crash land on. I try to play it as real as possible, so when I get damaged or overwhelmed and no airfield is around, I try to crash land in as short a distance as possible in a farmers field and not hit the trees (even though it doesn't matter in game). It isn't easy when your crate is damaged, and is a lot of fun playing it that way. If possible, use BOTH castle textures since variety will only add to the experience. Just my 2 cents...

Milkweg, I agree with you. TK's Summer and Winter season tiles are BLAH!!! If you haven't already try this FE terrain set by Flyguy LINK It isn't perfect, but if you can overlook the small defects, it has a really warm feeling and reminds me of those old airplane post cards. I use this tile set as a replacement for Spring and is a favourite season to fly for me, well, maybe after Winter I've been meaning to fix some of those bugs in it... I then use TK's Spring tiles, which are quite nice and verdant, as a substitute for Summer. Try it out for variety. @ TAILSPIN Thanks for links, some of those images really do look like the FE terrain, but others really show the variety that is in any real world country side. There just isn't any way to replicate that variety and keep the number of tiles manageable. OFF BHAH terrain is a nice change or break for variety (and kinda looks like what Jan Tuma is working on), but the OFF tiles have some serious flaws. I HATE the rivers for one, but man, they have some VERY NICE trees to crash into!!! OFF plays much better down low.

If I remember correctly, somebody uploaded marching infantry, but can't say that they are real 'columns'. Have a look again in downloads... EDIT: OK, marching infantry NOT in FE downloads, perhaps in Strike Fighters? OK, here it is LINK HERE This download should be migrated to FE downloads, or at least cross listed (it has a biplane in the download image...)

Actually the cloud of AAA IS realistic according to every historic account I've read. That is how pilots spotted distant aircraft beyond visible range. Black smoke is German, white is British/French. I like to fly without target boxes OR peaking at the map... Try it out!

I would most sincerely appreciate if you could do that Canadair, I haven't managed to keep up with the latest innovations. As far as "special taste customization" simply try to point out what they may be, though I suspect what you've done we all might have done (ie: environmental and atmospherics). Baltika, thank you for keeping BoB on your busy plate. It is a mod that I continue to return to, though I have never managed to finish a campaign--just can't keep enough squadron mates healthy!!! Come to think of it, shouldn't we be getting replacements in Campaign? Or is that damn Leigh-Mallory hogging all the new pilots???

I had off site training yesterday and managed to get home a bit early (don't tell my boss!). My wife and son were beat after a day trip to a park and went to bed early. Jackpot! Some midweek flying time!!! Well, I just installed a new ATI 4870 1 GB GPU and upgraded my monitor to 24" so I've been optimizing some lately to get that balance between graphics quality and fps. Probably rather foolish of me, but I also decided to give the latest TIR drivers a go. ANYWAYS, I started off with no in game 'Graphics Options' changes and entered quick combat to set a baseline. Also wanted to see how much the 4870 made a difference from the previous GPU, an nVidia 7800 GTX 512 MB [WOW, big jump]. However, something was wrong... First off, the new TIR drivers just didn't give me the right feel in the cockpit. I couldn't turn my head and get a good check-6 like I used to (turn head--lean back to one side--see most of tail/rudder), also I was getting A LOT of fuselage 'clipping' (for lack of a better term, could see inside the aircraft) while checking-6... No amount of resetting the TIR in game head position solved this. Then, I was rammed by one of the Fokkers and lost most of my left wings, but still kept flying!!! That really bothered me, as I haven't had a lot of time to explore all of Peter01's FM's yet... I went immediately back into quick combat and then noticed that rudder response was TERRIBLE. I exited and went to Single Mission to fly an aircraft I knew should have excellent rudder, the DR1. IT WAS TERRIBLE AS WELL, and to top it off, I couldn't stall the aircraft! Sorry Peter01, but there was some cursing going on. I kept flying different aircraft, and all the rudder responses were off, but I could see the rudder had full motion so I knew my peddles were working. What was going on??? Some of you may have figured out what was going on by now, but it took me some time before the answer hit me. My young nephew was visiting last weekend and futzed about with the In Game options, having put the Flight Model, Enemy Skill on Easy etc. etc. etc. I simply went to bed. early morning commute being what it is. But you know what was really funny? The d@mn AI was still pretty good even on Easy, and shot my engine out a few times. Granted, I was trying to deal with all sorts of annoying TIR issues, rudder pedals, etc. so I wasn't flying effectively with all the distractions. Ahhh, just needed to vent. Apologies for taking up forum space.

Mike, This really sounds interesting, and hats off! Do you think you could save us some time (I barely find any to fly as is...) by uploading the Weapons.ini to the forum? Thanks if you can!

You are a machine Baltika! Prop-heads come out of the closet and unite!!! Well, maybe we're not in the closet, or some of us aren't, NOT that there is anything wrong with that... :blush2: PS: Where did the BoB thread go? Can that be transferred to the new dug-out? There was A LOT of great discussion in there....
