  1. What am I doing wrong?

    Yes go into the options at the main menu and under the controls tab turn the sensitivity down on the Joystick. THis will keep it from over reacting. Also make sure the add the patch thats out to the original release. http://www.thirdwire.com/downloads_fe.htm You might try and read the area at the top of these forums and make sure you have some of the temp fixes in place to help the game. This game has a lot of you doing skins, planes, AA mods , etc.. So there will be a wealth of info there. The spad is a funny plane and requires a bit more finesse than others in this game. Its one of the only planes that has a spinstall feature that will kill you if it gets a chance. If you hit that flat spin you best have about 2000 feet at least to try and recover. In Dogfights using a spad I try and do hi yo yo's and come down and attack while gaining speed for the next upwards loop of the yo yo. Hope this helps you some. btw turn of shadows it will eat frame rates really hard of some machines.
  2. Smoke

    From what im seeing..... every plane has a smoke trail from the oil. Also there is an added heavy smoke when you hit the engine or major parts. At that point it will start a heavy smoke trail and usually won't pick up on target scan any more. THis seems to kind be the signal of a kill since it will not target . You may be like me and forgot you did a change or mod to the smoke trial INI areas since there were wuite a few floating around.

    These skins are for the Dr1 in the expansion pack and will not work on the ATeam model. I did this set with a slight under paint of the camo finish to try and make this look as if it were done at the airfield after the stock camo was applied. They should be available as soon as they get approved by CA. Enjoy

    Well actually TK has the scratches already there. I did some work with overlayes and such in photoshop and got them to stand out a bit more than usual with an underside painting idea. TK did such a great job on the modeling and skins it makes working skins for them alot easier. Now if I could get them to release the skin templates. I hate having to make those by hand (although if I think about another DR1 skin it will be the 1st template) I am going to make up a few ideas for the Dr1 an see if they workout well or not. I will post in CA if more skins get released.

Here is an diufferent skin for the Red barons plane with different decals and this one has the lighter underside finish on it. I also did some work to have the orig camo show through a bit more so add some over paint look to it. Didn't fade it through alot but just a bit. Also made the eng cowling the off white as in some photos I have seen on web sites and some models out there.     Adding the AutoTrimLimit=0.0 to the 130 FM seems to have settled it down alot. Im not carrying a barf bag anymore

    Bark, in the ini file there is a set of code like this: UpgradeType=NEVER KnownAce[01].LastName=Brown KnownAce[01].FirstName=Roy KnownAce[01].RankID=4 KnownAce[01].NumMissions=76 KnownAce[01].AirKills=64 KnownAce[01].AircraftNumber=5 KnownAce[01].Texture=RAFGrn1 <--- shows the texture to use. As for the commented lines of code, just a guess but Im thinking Tex has those planes in his aircraft folder and is messing with Fm's on the add on planes and he commented them our so you dont have to have them loaded. Just a guess tho, Tex may have a totally different thing going.

    I haven't tried them yet but my guess is that they will only work on the verdun map and not the Cambrai setup. Just a guess but check which map your using and make sure its Verdun. I think that may solve your problem. GL

    All I was doing was listing ways it might be done Tex, not suggesting thats the way to go. Actually I would say exactly opposite would be my vote.

    Great idea with a few major issues to tackle 1) To put it all on a CD requires someone to either burn Cds and Mail them for free which may not be something people want to spend money on. I also think there are alot of issues with trying to ask for cash for the effort since alot of members may not want to see someone getting cash for their ideas/property. 2) Make one huge file that may have problems finding a home due to the size of the file. Again maybe we could break it into 4 files and DL them in smaller pieces. Maybe all the FMs on one , planes on another, campaign/missions on one, etc... 3) Compatiable problems from Release 1 to release 2 to Release .... etc. This has already shown its ugly head with the exp pack. All the add on planes SEEM to not work well together with the new exp pack FMs so far. 4) Will the Old campaigns work with the new releases. 5) An amazing amount of skins to keep up with which plane they work on. Not an amazing task but its gets to be an interesting thing when your trying to get skins for of lets say 20 squads per side and have every squad have their own look. Now I have a spare USB drive that just holds EVERY mod, skin,FM,plane, etc thats been released so far so I can grab most anything I want and add it in as I want but I know as a new player this appears a bit daunting and I would like to find a way to get more people here to this game if possible. Making things easier to get hold of can't hurt.

    Peter, I had the same feeling when I tried to combine a few add on mod planes ot the mix and its didn't work real well. At the same time I am SOOOOO happy to see a camel that flies on Hard FM the way I have wanted to see it. THe Dr1 is my dream plane and I prefer it over anything else in the expansion pack. Its just a mean kill machine. The AI has wierd moments and I cant seem to pin down whats wrong. I am seeing the same thign you mentioned in another post, once you get position on them they have a hi tendency to flatten out and stop trying to survive. My thought is the games code SOMEWHERE is calling more rookie pilots and not enough of the other end near ace/vet pilots, or its just calling up a run away code set too often. I have YET to see a soft landing happen Guns still seem to hot for my taste but maybe its just me?

    FM – does it “feel right”? Hmm yes its real close, there are a few things like spins and things that are a bit different than the RB3d your probably used to. One thing thats not here is torque of engines but I think that will be otw soon. I on the other hand like this better than the Advanced FM of RB3d I feel more like I am in a plane in this Sim DM – how does this work/look? The look as great and exposed wing struts and such make it appear very realistic. As for DM I think even after the patch the damage from guns is still to heavy handed. One thing I find I don't agree with is I will get a few holes poked in a wing. The plane flies still but at the end screen it might say your were wounded. With no holes around the cockpit I don't see how it thinks the pilot got shot. Just a minor thing but it bugs me. BUT its pretty easy to add armor to pilot areas and other parts of the plane to make killing planes harder. Gunnery – too easy on HARD – or do you have to work for kills Too easy on Hard FM and Hard AI, it is way to easy to get a kill for my taste. Now that being said I am guessing it will only be a few weeks till one of the modders has a fix out that makes it harder to kill the enemy. You can also just adjust the weight of the bullets and the damage they do in the ini files to your taste as well. Campaigns:I am flying the Michael Campaign right now and am having a blast. Myself and others have been making campaigns for the game and I doubt this release will be any different as soon as we get a feel for some new codes that showed up this time. Immersive? Even with some things that bug me I would say yes. the over all feel and sounds and all make it really nice to get lost in. Can you select many different squadrons? This is all dependent on who the campaign was designed but usually there are 10-15 different squads or more to pick from. Do a/c upgrade – say, from an Alb. DV to a Fokker DVII?Again , depends on how the campaign was designed. I know my old Plane fest used almost all the planes from early war till end including the add ons from the amazing Modders that work on this game. You can even get down to exact days when planes are released and the campaign takes into account if the supply lines are open to get these planes to your squadron. Paint scheme options – do all a/c in a squad share the same scheme or can you assign variations? How do you assign skins – just like WOV? Yes you can assign paint per squad pretty easy in the campaign ini files and you can select with in your squad as well at the load out screens. Take a look at the 15 pages of paint schemes already available for the planes and its growing daily. Can you add 3rd party a/c to existing campaigns Again depending on who and how the campaign was designed as too what AC are included, and its not that hard to "adjust/add to" an existing campaign. Ace appearances – who is in and do they have accurate skins? The code to do this just showed up in this expansion pack and a few of us are already messing with the new code to see how far it will go For the $30 TK is asking for the expansion pack and the $30 for the original pack I say you can't go wrong. considering most games are $60+ and half baked ideas I have zero regret investing in his WWI games. :yes: I have to say now that the expansion pack is out its probably the best single player WWI sim out there. Now as for online play I haven't seen enough people at a time try out anything more than 3 of us flying at a time so I cant say yet how the new exp pack changed the online play. I hope it draws more people into the fray of online WWI killing asap!

    Yes, I have been playing with this set of commands and its yeilding some interesting results. Haven't quite got it down as to how much it changes the pilots way of flying so far.

    Yes, the skin I have available now is for the new exp pack from Thrird wire only, it will not work on the ATEAM Dr1. I was trying to get the Dr1 paint I saw on some old paintings and some Model planes that I had seen. I wanted to get the underpaint to show thru a bit more and I am going to do another update tonight when I get home from work so the wings have a bit more of the camp bleeding through the red paint on the wings. Problem is I have to stop flying the new pack to do and paint ... hmmm decisions decisions...

    Yes, I already did the DL and installed to a clean install of FE. The planes do have a lot of forward stick need to keep them level. I have heard that this was the case but I'm not 100% it was to this degree, might have been though. So far I have been in the Dr1 and the Alb DVa and I am VERY impressed with both. I think over all the planes are a bit more twitchy then they were pre patch, which makes for some working and re-training of the Aiming of guns a bit. This may also be some setting of the J stick in the options area. I have not looked at the dead zone and sensitivity settings yet. The Dr1 is just a thrill to fly and is fast to become My fave plane at this time but I still have many more new planes to fly and also need to re-fly the old planes since I'm thinking they probably fly much differently. I think the FM on this DR1 far surpasses the FM I did on the Ateam Model and the Ateam FM itself in Hard mode. I have not flown the new patch in normal FM and don't plan on it so all this is based on Hard FM. I love being able to take off from the airfields a bit more than before, it can take some time to get to where your going but its a good trade off when your doing it for immersion factor. The blip on the Eng's in the DR1 takes some getting used to in DF's and you have to learn to time it well so as to not lose to much speed/Energy. Over all I think the plane speeds are a bit more realistic now. The SE5 were zooming me pretty much and getting some alt before returning. I do think Peters AI on planes was still more aggressive. I think he needs to get that back in this release ASAP (hint hint). I found myself again having to chase down planes that would not re-engage allot of the time. Maybe this is there to re-enact rookie pilots. Guns still seem a bit OP'd and I had no problems taking down the SE5s and Spads so far. Damn the Spad is fast BTW. I would say yes to anyone thinking about getting the exp pack and wanting to know if its worth it. I say YES it is very much worth the $30 investment. :yes: Haven't seen any of the weather changes to terrain yet but I haven't looked at dates of action really so maybe I am staying the summer area of the seasons. I am re-doing the Plane fest real fast to see how the weather changes work and make sure they have a good feel and time line. The version I had ready for this release (been wanting to add the planes in) includes only the plane sets from TKs releases and doesn't have any outside planes in it at this time. I may release it or not. I haven't decided if I want to tackle another full campaign yet. RL is eating my time really bad.

    Please answer a few questions before I hit the DL button ! 1) How do the FMs fly in Hard FM now? Are the sopwith planes flyable in Hard FMa dn how is the DR1 in the add on ? 2) DO I need to re install a new load of FE so no conflicts happen on the add ons I have already? 3) Honest opinion of the AI now after the patch... 4) How are the Add on planes like the early war stuff and those doing with the new FE add on? Thanks in advance.

  24. Peter, I have been at work for a lot of hours lately and just got all the FMs installed adn I must say im very impressed at what you have done. Flying on hard still has a few planes that get stuck in spins but I think those are planes you have not worked on thus far. Your work is a major step and equallying out alot of FM vs Fm problems I saw a while back when I was playing alot more. Keep up the good work.
