Firecage Plane Fest 3.0 HERE IT IS 1. As promised I now have German bomber squadrons that are playable. This is a hard way to go but I have a feeling some of you are just crazy enough to try it so here it is. I would be open to feedback on this release. I am trying to see if it’s feasible to work as a bomber pilot through a war like this. 2. And I am begging for someone to get us some cockpits for the new allied bombers so I can get a flyable allied bomber squadron. If we don’t see something soon I will just make a bomber squad from the planes I know work with bombs well. 3. I have decided to split up the camels between different RAF squadrons. Some of the Squads will upgrade to F1 (Mikes plane) and other will have the Camel (A team’s Plane). I was kind of waiting for the A team to release the Sopwith Triplane but I feel it was time to get all the new planes in and let everyone at them. I Promise the tripe is in as soon as it hits the market… if you know Capun and the team send them more women and wine and keep them motivated 4. The good news is I have included all the newer bombers and planes that have come out recently. So there may be quite a few different bombers in the air at times for both allied and German. ** see list below. The bombers will now cycle through upgrades to plane just as the rest of the fighter squads, both AI and human 5. The RAF now will have a choice between starting with the DH2 or the new Fe2B. I made about equal number of each available. 6. EVERY fighter squad is now on a separate plane update date. This way all the planes will kind show up on a spread and not just all at once everywhere on the same days. There was some variance by the game and this just adds more. 7. Peter01 is working on some FM changes to bort’s originals and I am going to try and get them in on the next run if it works well. I flew them this last weekend and tried to work it where they were up against some of the earliest planes available to me and it may be something that works. What I may do is just like with the German bomber squad I make just one German EIII squad start on them if you wish to use those as a starting point it will be available. 8. I know Bort's planes being taken out has caused some hard feelings and none were intended at all. I won’t go off here just saying I’m fine with dropping it all and moving on, I hope everyone can do the same. Just an FYI, There will be a new version out tonight late or tomorrow that will include the new sopwith Triplane Also im glad to say that inclusion of Bort's planes will be available once again. I am going to include the link in the new download that will point to peter01's new FM files for these planes. Its up to you which FM you use. I am going to try for all of bort's planes to be included and I will set some squads to use them and some that won't. This will give everyone the option of starting germans on EIII's or Alb D1's. Any of the bomber planes WITH a cockpit will be added into the flyable german bomber squad so you can have every flyable german bomber type available through out the campaign as upgrades. IF there are no cockpits then they will be included as AI bomber squads. I am in the works of trying to get an allied bomber squad (flyable) so anyone who wants to take that path can have it available. I saw last night that Bort has some newer allied planes and I will get them included if I can with this release. I am hopeful this may give us the allied bomber squad I was wanting to include. In the new release I will also include a squads_readme.txt file that will list the upgrades on planes for each squad so you can see which upgrade lines are in the squadrons. I have had a few requests for this so people who want to see certain planes in the upgrade lines can pick the squad that gives them what they want. I hope this help's in choosing a path to follow. LMAO!!! I knew you guys would release that as soon as I put the new version of my campaign out ... Great work on the tripe tho thank you all for all your planes and work. Ok now to get home and update the plane fest again -
Yes, you should have the PM back. If any more info, just PM me, I try and get in at least once a day here. I did try to DL one of borts planes last nite and it worked so I can get to them looks like. I have to go lay down some tracks for a band tonight but I will try and get on late and see if I can get them all DL'd from Bort and see what I think on the planes vs the newer arrivals for the plane fest. Lots of new plane have entered the play field lately :) I am hopeful that Ateam will release the Sop Tripe soon and maybe we can see it and a return of borts planes to the fest. Still need to get his direct permission to have them included in the plane fest to keep everyone happy. If your through here bort please drop a yea or nay here so I can have your direct permission. Is this Halb doing pretty well vs the allied planes so far? Im at work watching a server load at this point so I wont see if for a bit today. I will check and see if I can get to Bort's site and take a look. -
The A - Team has given me permission to release this to the forums and combat ace but that doesn't mean they endorse it yet. They may be sitting back laughing to hard to speak yet. Ya just never know. Enough on that... its tuned for hard FM, Its a freak show to fly, its like riding on glass at times.... but if you work with it some you will find its a mean machine IMHO. After being shown some articles from people who have been in the cockpits of a dr1, I tried to make the plane have the results they described. The plane seem to be washy and tends to be a bit un ruley but, if you can get hold of the reigns it's a blast. This FM blows on normal, sorry This is only version 1.0 trial runs. I have an account on CA and you can msg any useful info to me there for FM suggestions. Installation :Go to wwi>objects>aircraft>dr1 Back up your dr1_Data.ini somewhere and drop this one in its place. Here it is Firecage

Hey Pete thanks for the efforts on getting these planes ot be a bit more capable in the sim. If your done with the tweaking I will DL the newest FM sets and try them out this week as I can. I just released the newest plane fest campaign but If it works well I will do a new release of the fest with the Fokkers in there. Not sure just how I want to include them yet but there are a few options I can think of. I haven't got the newer of borts planes to test but I can do the EIII and the EVI. I tried to drop by Borts site and leave a msg in the blog but my msg's dont show up... I think I know why but.... if I can I will see if im allowed to DL the other planes he has or not. Again thanks for fixing these up for us.

Ok, In order to cut down on some email requests <snicker>.... Here is the Dr1 from Ateam in a worn faded red suit. I keep getting people wanting this from the Pic in the Campaign so here it is again. Im really doing more on the Plane Fest campaigns right now. There are so many talented painters here so there are always a ton of skins here so get to DL'ing and enjoy. Thanks to God,mom,dad,all the apostles... my sis and the kids.... tk and ateam... the guy on the corner selling papers in the rain ...... -
LOL yea the WWI sims seem to run the entire gambit.... DOA which is kinda interesting but I hate their damage models and last I looked that fake looking 8bit smoke when somethings hit. Oh yea and everything explodes like a SAM rocket hit. Then you have the WoH and others that have an SE5 doing unlimited vertial climb at 90 deg. Im sure theres a market somewhere for all. I think Red Baron 3D was one of the great WWI sims but all of us from that era know it wasn't finished well and just kinda left unfinished. Thank god the community kept it alive and worked on the rest that Sierra just didnt care to address. It was close to mass online play and at least people could do a hack check on their servers for versions and such to keep it as equal as possible. I think the death of 3dfx didnt help RB3d much either, its a horrid scene in direct draw and wrappers just suck. I think TKs game is the 1st one since then that really drew my interest, and Im I am a real WWI fan just not seeing much from any other companies that I liked. I have some real hope for TKs game and the only thing I see in the way is doing anykind of online play where there is a system in place to check for equal FM in all planes and such. This is always a problem in open code games. And, as in real life, I am sad to say that there will always be a few who will cheat for the ego boost. I think the FMs needs to have a way to balance so it will scale from ez to normal to hard and fly well in all three. And see the AI fly them well in all three. The AI gunnery issue Im guessing is a pain in the backside, how do you tell an AI pilot when to lead by how much at how fast at what angle........ whew thank god its his problem I have been trying to just keep things upbeat and not hound TK and his huge staff <snicker> with too many too do lists. I would hate to have his email inbox to read every day. I hope we see this game moving forward for a long time to come.

So far im pretty impressed with TK and thrid wires efforts. My biggest problem is I am trying to make it a more realistic flight sim and it wasn't designed to be that. TK has said it was a wwi game to go around and blow stuff up 8) which is always fun. I do however think its a great game and I am always looking forward to a new patch or planes as they release.

I think they have a great idea but im not seeing much info from them at all. They showed a few models a while back and haven't seen anything else. I can't tell if they are keeping it quiet or just don't have the resources to get it done. I have a feeling they have a huge effort and may not have the resources to pull it off.Personally I would rather see a new game engine as you have suggested. Lets hope they get this done soon so we can have a bunch of wwi sims and I can give up on what little time I have freee as it is -

Nah im sure the 2nd finger over was the signal for when the Fokkers were not providing ecsort... and its usually understood well by the receiving end. If it actually helped situation or not is still up for discussion... ok sorry for some reason the week left some humor. -
Nice work Pete... I have them both downloaded and I will try them out this weekend. Few clients had server crashes this week and im up to my ears in IT problems or I would do it sooner. This may solve some things for me in the plane fest... I will send ya a priv msg in CA in a few minutes. Gotta grab food and drinks for late nite of server rebuilding 8( ..... RL reallys gets in the way of my gaming Let me know which of borts planes your working on and I will set up a test folder for the plane fest and do some trials.

New planes are showing up pretty fast lately so I wanted to inclued them in the plane fest... http://forum.combatace.com/index.php?autom...p;showfile=3986 All of the latest planes are now included as well as upgrade on bombers during the war, and new ground objects. Enjoy

No one has been nasty I just get PMs on different planes that are in or not in and I don't want any one to feel they were treated unfairly. I get alot of msg's on Bort's planes and I am going to dangle a carrot out there for someone to match the bort series of planes for the allies so we can have some good early war action going on. There are quite a few planes in the works from alot fo different places that are working on these idea's already. I would like to see someone even work out the idea of a 2 seater with one guy firing a rifle weapon! Give the area of coverage a good wide spot since he could bend around alot but, maybe make it 6-10 secs per single round shots. If I recall correctly some early planes used deflectors on the props so the bullets didn't eat the prop in two, this was before the sync gears were developed. Thats an area I would like to see as well as more adjustable balloons and such.

Ok let me get this out there so I keep my intentions pure.... 99% of the reason I drop or add any planes from the campaign was lack of other planes that were it's equal. It had zero to do with any dark powers or special group of people I am in with. If there was a secret handshake meeting some where I musta missed it 8( I don't want a war at all. If you look at a recent post of mine whats killing me is lack of Early way planes that are available. I think too many games made too many of the late WWI era, and almost none of the early war stuff. Now I see capun and some others putting out the early stuff. And I had said all along if I can get planes that are fun to fly against each other then they go in. Fun is about 90 % of my selection process. If any one wants to msg me I have an acct here at CA and I answer any thing that gets sent, thats not just full of profanity... limit it too a few mean words and im cool, Im not darth Vader or anything 8)

Just FYI if it's of any help. I can see where your coming from on permission, firestorms start too easy soemtimes. http://www.ebort2.co.uk/FE.html Borts site and also in one of his posts at his sight: "given that no permission is needed from me to edit the airfiles for my aircraft" I still say get it directly from him though... always safer that way. -
Hey peoples <wave> Ok heres how I want to solve this. I built a new PC this weekend and installed a fresh version of FE and I did fresh installs of all the planes. I took the camp3_data.ini and removed every reference to any skins being called up. Even the ones that may have been included with each plane, this was mostly all bombers. I have found this to be a number one cause of crashes from game is calling up a paint scheme thats not available or named wrong. After I got all the stuff installed I started the campaign and double checked that every french unit gets N11 to start, RAF gets DH2, Germans D1 alb. I tested each squad to make sure of plane types and what you saw on the screen is what you get in the air. On your end please delete the old wwicamp3 folder completly. Then place the one in the new new downloaded wwicamp3 folder in its place. THis avoids any chance of overwrite problems and names of things being different that I may have missed. THis will be what I have here on a fresh install of FE and planes. I also just finished reloading the files to CA so if you want to get this fresh made zip file its available as ver 2.1 Please dont be shy about posting things going wrong, im not amazing talent at code and have made mistakes before and thats why we see new versions of the plane fest from time to time. I good at listening to any ideas you have and will use what I can in the next releases. ** Note I saw the post from Capun on planes that are otw out and I also saw someone posted a new FM for Borts planes. I am going to take a look at the new FM and see if we can get the early E models back in the campaign and also I am eager to get my hands on the early war planes I saw capun post as up coming plane releases.... ahhh its going to be a good year 8) Let me know if this helps and stops the DTDs
