  1. Yeah, I can understand that...Here, chalk this up to an idle observation, nothing more, but I specifically bought SFV2 for that mod, and from my knothole the mods in general really make this sim. I would think it might behoove TK to be responsive to a degree when it comes to conflicts such as this and, if it is in his powers, rectify situations like this to the extent that he can. I realize he's a one man show, I realize he doesn't have unlimited time and resources, and I am grateful for all of the work he has done over the years not just with this series, but EAW and so on. It just seems like there is a symbiotic relationship of sorts between Third Wire and the modders and maybe that should be reflected in quirks that arise as the result of unannounced patches...
  2. Well, I'm flying this mod in SF2V, but I decided to forgo the latest December patch in light of the problems it presents to the mod. In short, if I have to choose between the mod and the patch, I'll go with the mod...
  3. A quick observation from a guy who came late to this sim: I can completely understand what you guys are saying about burnout. I read about the Wings Over series for a long time, how it was all about the mods, about all the various scenarios that had been created. I was always busy monkeying with something else, Falcon, IL-2, whatever...When I finally gave WoX a try I was amazed, and that's an understatement, at the content that had been produced by what for all intents and purposes are volunteers. The quality and scope of what some of you guys have created is amazing and honestly TK should be thanking you fellas every bit as much as this community thanks him and holds him in high regard. This is all a long way of saying thank you for your commitment and creativity, and just plain hard work. You folks are analytical artists, and you've made a convert out of me. That and a quarter will get you a swizzle straw at Starbucks, but I want you to know that there are probably countless numbers of folks like me out there that have benefited from your work and are appreciative. 14, out..
  4. ...and up there for any all-encompassing mod...Just outstanding, fellers...I followed along with the beta development and the final product is exceptional...Thank you to all involved.
  5. Just wanted to take a moment and say thanks to eburger and Malibu for this add-on, it ranks right up there with ODS and Nato Fighters 1-4 for the modding-impaired like myself...This is just a fantastic compilation of so many people's good work, it really makes SF2V an order of magnitude better than the stock install...Thank you all very much.
  6. I have been monkeying around with combat flight flight sims since the 80's...The original Falcon on my now Brother-in-law's Mac, Lucas Art's Battle of Britain on a monochromatic monitor 286 that didn't even have a hard drive...I've always enjoyed them... I was big into EAW years back and I recently got hooked on TK's Wings Over Whatever series and particularly the good work of all the folks that have contributed and compiled such works as NATO Fighters 1-4, Operation Desert Storm, things like that. I usually fly them in a Dead is Dead fashion, if I get wiped from the sky I'm done, start over, my alter ego is no more, so surviving matters, and something really unusual happened early this morning...In all those years of flying these sims I have never, not once, felt absolutely compelled -- no, let me rephrase that -- was I absolutely going to make sure, that Major General So and So-avich was not going to get home to his warm wife and cold borscht... NATO Fighter 1-4 series, '62 campaign, leading a flight of Huns tasked with taking out a bunch of IL's coming over to make things not nice in our backyard and they are escorted by a brace of MiG-21's led by that aforementioned general...We had expended our missiles at the IL's and Major General Ruinyourdayovich had attached himself to my wing man. I in turn went after him... ...and of course the guns jammed... Now this particular alter ego (that would be me) had already survived the '86 campaign and risen to the rank of Major, I have something invested in this guy, he'd survived the SU-27's, the MiG 29's, and the SAMs, he'd made it through '86 for cryingoutloud, I had to keep this guy alive, and I have nothing, fresh out, sidewinders expended, guns jammed, and General Icanflythewingsofthisthingski is on my wingie....Well? OK....Let's go, this guy is not going home today, he will lose, and we end up going vertical, playing a wicked energy game....Up we go, down we go, I had resolved myself to try to tip a wing and then quite likely bail and hope I survived...As it was I parked myself on his canopy and ejected... Undisciplined? Oh you bet...And then it occurred to me, that is the first time ever, literally, in decades, I ever sacrificed a bird and took a chance like that. THAT is immersion and speaks highly both for the game and the modders. Thanks fellas for a great series, your work is appreciated.
  7. Dirk? Dirk? Is that you? We've scheduled you an appointment with the talking doctor, be there at 0830...
  8. SU-27's are pure evil, they are cause for concern...
  9. Yeah definitely, post the screenies. 120 pounds? You make Dirk look sane. Well, OK, you can't make Dirk look sane he's dead, but if he wasn't...
  10. I spent WAY too much time with Falcon AF, like have a negative impact on the GNP of the United States too much time...Great sim. The only problem is to enjoy Falcon you almost have top spend WAY to much time with it to get the most out of it, that's one of the reasons I like TK's stuff...
  11. Well? What comes around goes around I suppose. Major Dirk Wunderbar met an untimely end over Nurnberg this morning after being dutifully impressed with the turning capabilities of the MiG 19...From his vantage point Dirk was treated to a fantastic airshow courtesy of a Sov Colonel who apparently paid a great deal of attention in flight school...There's a lesson to be learned here. If you find yourself going, "Wow, that guy can really turn that thing! Look at that," things may not be going so well...Unfortunately the next, or should I say last, thought that passed through Dirk's rather small mind was, "Say? I wonder where his wingman is?" Did I mention the cannons on the MiG 19? Really, really nice cannons...Ivan can really build one heck of a cannon...The Colonel drags Dirk, some stooge bags Dirk...Just great... Oh well. Pride goeth before a large fatal explosion, or something like that...Stupid hurts. But that's OK....Dirk will be avenged... Enter 2LT Lance Thunderballs, 1979, you best run Ivan, the fangs are out...
  12. Back in the O-Club doing the hand jive, and the wingie got home too....Major General Weregrettoinformyouski was a smoking hole outside of K-Town...
  13. I wish I had the talent to do more than just say thank you, but, well....I don't...But thank you, Sir.
  14. Don't now if this is still in the works or not, but I thought I'd bump it back to the top and offer any grateful words of encouragement I could to the talented folks who take on these tasks. I'd love to play that campaign.
  15. Why yes I do, and this can be filed under the, "Don't fight air wars over central Europe when you're tired" category... NF-4, 1986, leading a flight of Tornado F3's, flipping the radar on and off approaching bad guy territory, when, "Oops, there's trouble." Bad guys, one o'clock, slightly high, closing fast...I'm doing the track and scan thing cycling through targets, tell the flight to drop tanks, and select nearest threat on the radar ready to launch a Skyflash as soon as Ivan gets within 20 miles, the faint blue box is just hovering in my HUD, this guy is toast... 20 miles comes, and 20 miles goes, in range, mash the button....Nada, no launch, hang fire, you are a no go at this station...What the? 18 miles now....Select target, got it, dial weapon up, yup, mash button...NOTHING....Scheiss! I can visually target the bad guy by now, tell my wingy to take the guy out, go to a sidewinder and pop the other guy...The stick is obviously working, I can get 'winders off... ...and then the light bulb goes on... Hey dummy, lock the target up...Between being tired and having a visual cue with the scan mode on I had completely forgotten to lock the target up... Yeesh...Shortly after this revelation I vaporized somewhere over Hof, end of campaign...
  16. Another no vote here... Campaign or commo improvements: Yes....A plane? No...
  17. Between ODS and NF1-4 it's well worth the price of admission...
  18. The AI is not aggressive enough? No problem... Download all Nato Fighters add-ons, one through four, be sure to follow the read me's instructions... Start an F-15A campaign in 1986... Fill out your will and be sure to designate where you want the body sent... May God have mercy on your cyber-soul, you will learn to hate SU-27's, well for awhile anyway, until you disappear in a cloud of debris over Fulda...
  19. It took me years to understand that "Read Me" meant, well, you know, maybe read the thing....There's no sense of urgency to, "Read Me." Something entitled, "Read Me, Dummy," or maybe, "Hey Numbnuts! READ THIS!" would be much more helpful...
  20. Why that is generally what I like to refer to after I've completely botched a seemingly simple installation of some sort... It makes me smarter after the fact....Well, a little bit anyway...
  21. Flying Tornado F3 missions in NF4-1986 I'm able to cycle through the various aircraft and occasionally I will come up with a flight of SU-17's that appear under the aircraft ID portion of the screen in the lower right hand corner but the aircraft are invisible...Is it likely I have a corrupted NF1, NF2, NF3, or NF4 download, or is it a bug? Oh, by the way, the NATO fighters downloads for WoE is just fantastic by the way, everything, the whole package, just brilliant, the invisible SU-17's aside.
  22. Well, I found my "invisible" SU-17M3's...Maybe this can help. OK, here's where I seemed to have gone wrong: Default File Paths. As things are currently set up when you download WoE and the WoE 2009b update from Third Wire the default installation file path they will install to unless otherwise directed is: "C:\Program Files\ThirdWire\Wings over Europe" When you download NF1, NF2, NF3, and NF4, the default file paths that they will install to unless otherwise directed are: NF1: "C:\ThirdWire\Wings Over Europe" via an exucatable nfsetup.exe NF2: "C:\ThirdWire\Wings Over Europe" via an executable nfsetup.exe NF3: "C:\Program Files\ThirdWire\Wings over Europe" via an executable file NF4: You unpack the zip and extract it to your WoE NF install and the default file path may vary depending on what you last selected with your unzipping utility. The long and short of it is if you don't check to see where the the various files are installing to and rely upon the default file paths as set by Third Wire and Column 5 you will end up with files fragmented hither and yon, the result being an incomplete installation and such things as invisible SU-17M3's, lag times in mission play, and probably a host of other problems that I didn't pick up on... I went back and started from scratch, loading WoE, the 2008b Update, and all four of the NF series and ensured they were going to "C:\Program Files\ThirdWire\Wings over Europe". The result was much smoother game play, the SU-17M3's appeared along with a number of other previously missing planes, and what was already (I thought) just a great add on became absolutely fantastic... I hope this helps.
  23. I checked and it appears that everything was directed to WoE no problem. NF1-4 are where they are supposed to be....I did look at my aircraft folders and while I do have the corresponding files for the SU-17 and the SU-17M I do not have the file for the version of SU-17 that comes up invisible....I wish I had made note of the version of SU-17 that did not appear....It was something like SU-17M3 maybe?
  24. Yup, that's my situation as well... Clean install, patched, NF1, 2, 3, and 4 added on only. The invisible SU-17's are in the 1986 campaign...
