  5. My HDD died, a warning to all

I feel your pain. Working in IT as I sadly do, I am forever telling people to back up their data...and then 3 months ago...my HDD packed up..and I lost mine!...a classic case of not practising what I preached!! Needless to say...it is backing up now....HDD failure is never an 'IF'....It is merely a 'WHEN' Good luck

  11. Sopwith Production

Just found this pretty cool pic of the Sopwith production line. As you may notice on the OFF skins, the Sopwith Factory was in Kingston upon Thames..although that is only partly true. It was situated on the outskirts of Kingston, in a place called 'Ham'.... I know this, because I used to live in a House in Ham, and our Back Yard bordered the Factory (it was in the 1970's, and was The Hawker Siddeley factory at that time)...if you were up early enough in the morning, you might catch a glimpse of a Brand spanking New Harrier, it's wings packed alongside it..on a huge flatbed lorry..with Police Outriders...with it's shape showing through the tight fitting silver grey Tarpaulin....very exciting for a 10 yr old lad as I was at the time It then became BAC and later BAE...closing down, and becoming the YMCA Hawker Centre in 2001 I remember looking at the factory out of my bedroom window, thinking of all the amazing aircraft that were built there...The Camel, the Hurricane..THE SNIPE!.....happy days (unless I am mistaken..I believe those are in fact Snipe's in the picture?)
  12. Sopwith Production

    Bastards
  13. Sopwith Production

Hahaha...Yes FlyPC..I agree...pretty naff names! They got a bit better in WW2 though...Hurricane, Typhoon, Tempest and Whirlwind sound quite fitting, and a bit more scary! Even at the start of the Jet Age... Meteor, Vampire...Folland Knat... FOLLAND KNAT?....a big step backwards!! But then Hunter, Lightning, Jaguar and Tornado all sound pretty cool too...but now we are back to Typhoon....So, maybe...just maybe..the Next Eurofighter will go back even further...and be called a Eurofighter Snipe?

  16. Hi Chaps Just to let you know, my latest skin has been uploaded. Features the DVIIF of Ltn Josef Raesch (some of you may recognise it) A little about the Airman himself:- Lieutenant Josef Raesch (born 4 June 1897, date of death unknown) flew with Jasta 43. He was credited with seven aerial victories, two of which were over other aces, Guy Wareing and Ernest Charles Hoy. On 26th July 1918, he was forced to abandon his burning DVII and parachuted to safety 2 months later, he was given a Pfaltz DXII but was unhappy with the new fighter..and he wrote: "I am very unhappy with the Pfaltz. It does not climb well, is clumsy in turns, and will not keep up with the formation" I hope you enjoy flying her (and of course, thanks go to the OBD guys..as always for allowing us to enjoy our 'side' hobby!) Just noticed FRO has already done this skin..oops...oh well, can never have too many I always say!..hahahahaha

  18. Now THAT'S what you call 'Spin Doctoring'

Judy Wallman, a professional genealogy researcher in southern California, was doing some personal work on her own family tree. She discovered that Congressman Harry Reid's great-great uncle, Remus Reid, was hanged for horse stealing and train robbery in Montana in 1889. Both Judy and Harry Reid share this common ancestor. The only known photograph of Remus shows him standing on the gallows in Montana territory: On the back of the picture Judy obtained during her research is this inscription: 'Remus Reid, horse thief, sent to Montana Territorial Prison 1885, escaped 1887, robbed the Montana Flyer six times. Caught by Pinkerton detectives, convicted and hanged in 1889.' So Judy recently e-mailed Congressman Harry Reid for information about their great-great uncle. (pictured below) Believe it or not, Harry Reid's staff sent back the following biographical sketch for her genealogy research: "Remus Reid was a famous cowboy in the Montana Territory. His business empire grew to include acquisition of valuable equestrian assets and intimate dealings with the Montana railroad. Beginning in 1883, he devoted several years of his life to government service, finally taking leave to resume his dealings with the railroad. In 1887, he was a key player in a vital investigation run by the renowned Pinkerton Detective Agency. In 1889, Remus passed away during an important civic function held in his honour when the platform upon which he was standing collapsed." NOW That’s how it's done, Folks! That's real POLITICAL SPIN – makes today’s spinners look like amateurs!
  19. Anti-Ubisoft DRM petition to sign

Actually yeah...it smacks of a Skidrow let one. (Skidrow are the pirates who attacked the DRM servers and shut them down last weekend) I had said "Dear Ubisoft...to prevent your company losing what little credibility it has left..do something about your appaling DRM"
  20. £1m Question for The OBD skinners
