PhotoReal Terrains Available NOW at RAZBAM
FOTF replied to Edward's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - Mods/Skinning Discussion
Yeah, I have to agree with Russ on that....it isn't the whole payware thing that gets my goat, it's the way this one was presented. Take Prowler's stuff for example, he has always been payware...so it is easier to swallow. When you see a "Coming Soon" screenshot from him, you know it is payware and his stuff is priced (at least IMO) fairly. When you look at the price for the terrains, it is a tough pill to swallow. Granted, I am sure a lot of work went into them...but 15 bucks worth? Especially considering you can get a pack of new aircraft models with multiple variations for less. If these were priced appropriately, I would probably be crashing into that new terrain right now. That said, if Prowler ever decides to bring over his Skyhawks packs, I am first in line for those (hint hint). I have been dying for a two seater Scooter since day 1 -

Ahhhh.....can you feel the love? BTW....your check is in the mail And USAFMTL is right....this is a civil conversation, just people airing out different opinions. THAT is what seperates this community from the guys over at SHQ. I haven't seen one person call someone a doo doo head once! -

For the record....I want it known that this in no way reflects how I feel about the users in question....Please do not take my words as a personal attack against Razbam or Edward, they are no more than personal opinions voiced in a public forum. I have never had dealings with them and would never blatantly attack anyone because of their methods of distribution. -

To me, it is the whole idea of payware I have a problem. The bottom line is this is a user made mod. This isn't something that I can go down to the software shop and buy in a box, that was made by a professional company. Why should I bust my ass making mods and give them away for free while Joe Schmoe down the street is making 15 bucks per? It doesn't make sense. In my opinion, payware has no place in a community like this. You mod it because you want to...because you want to improve it. I have been into modding for 10 years now, starting painting cars for Grand Prix 2 and then mapping Unreal Tournament and making full blown mods in EA's F1 series before making WoE my home. The thought never once crossed my mind to sell my mods. The day I sell a mod is the day I stop modding. -
ctd after using 1360 x 768 menu system for WOV?
FOTF replied to gerrygreen1's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
Yeah, I was having that problem too....I tried out WoE on my new LCD TV and when I switched it back it crashed....after changing the res back to a 4.3 ratio res it worked fine -
Yeah, it's all Vista's fault....I think Vista might be responsible for Jimmy Hoffa too. I didn't realize how bad Vista was until this last thursday. I live about 10 minutes from the Microsoft campus...one of my neighbors is a long time MS employee. We went golfing thursday and I found out he was on the OS team for 15 years and when he found out some of the things they were planning with Vista, he told his team lead where he could stick it and left the team. He now works for the Office '07 team. He said Vista crashes the work machines at Microsoft all the time. He won't even install it on his own computers at home. I think his exact words to describe Vista were "Steaming pile of ****"

Agreed. 15 bucks is way to much for each of these. I have already paid close to 100 bucks with SFP1, WoV and WoE, now I need to spend another 45 bucks just to get some decent terrain? Maybe I need to start charging a couple bucks per skin just to break even....I need to get a third job just to catch up with all this YAP and Razbam stuff....it's getting ridiculious. -
Leaving WoV
FOTF replied to Sgt.KAR98's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
DING DING DING!!!! We have a winner! That is exactly what you do. With the right compression, I can turn my 15 gig installation into a 4 gig .7z file, burn it to a DVD-R and then keep it should anything go wrong. Then, if something blows up and the original doesn't work all I have to do is unpack the files from the disk and I am back to where I was two weeks ago, rather than starting from scratch. -
Leaving WoV
FOTF replied to Sgt.KAR98's topic in Thirdwire: Strike Fighters 1 Series - General Discussion
As goofy as it sounds, I actually backup my WoV/E installations when I install it. So I have a clean fresh working install waiting on a DVD-R just in case. I will also rar up the entire directory and burn it to disk every 3 months. I have been modding way to long to know if you keep adding and changing things, eventually something will foul up somewhere. -

deadly cobra kai trained midget ninja assassin team go!
-
You can ask, but if we tell you we would have to dispatch a top secret lethal team of deadly cobra kai trained midget ninja assassins armed with robot lazer arms to make sure the secret never got out. And frankly, you don't want that to happen. I saw it happen to a guy in Tokipsee one time....when they were done, his private parts were up to his shoulders and his shoulders were down by his butt....and his arms and legs looked like those big soft pretzels.......very ugly. So....still want to know?

Did you say "Paint"? As in "MS Paint"? -
OK.....Back in 2001 I got blown away by the first GR. So much so that I had to run out and pick up both add ons the minute my local EB games cut open the boxes, downloaded gigs worth of mods, etc. It was with much anticipation and excitement that I heard the Ghosts were coming home to the PC after the dreadful foray into the world of consoles. I downloaded the PC demo of "Advanced Warfighter" and fired it up all giddy like a little school girl. What I found was a buggy piece of crap....first of all, what is with the Ghosts looking like they belong serving next to Hicks and Hudson in the Colonial Marines? Not that it's a bug, just something that pissed me off....the original Ghost Recon was great because although it was set a few years in the future, it was still very much current military hardware and kits. OK...So, I get my mission breifing, and find myself sitting in the back of a Blackhawk with a few other Ghosts. We ride this damn thing for at least 5 minutes with nothing to do but stare out the window wondering when the hell we get to shoot something. Finally, I notice the tops of buildings are getting closer....this is it....finally going to see some combat. The chopper pilot calls out "OK boys, this is your stop...Going to have to do the rest on foot". My squadmates repel from the Blackhawk. I am close behind them....and end up inside a building....not a building that I am supposed to be in, but a BSP hole. I can see out of the building, all around me is nothing but black. I try to find a way out but can't. I am stuck in static mesh. What a great game. Five minutes of riding in a chopper and waiting around, and then I get dropped off into a mesh. Nice.... I closed the program, uninstalled the demo and re-installed the original Ghost Recon...

File Name: VFA-22 Redcocks File Submitter: paul.nortness File Submitted: 2 May 2007 File Category: F/A-18 Installation Instructions ------------------------- This will overwrite my existing VFA-22 Redcocks skin. Delete that skin prior to installing this one. This new skin uses decals for the graphics, allowing you to have the CAG's A/C along with the standard grey squadron birds. To use the CAG's skin, just select modex 300 in the loadout screen. One note, the USN skips modex x08 and x09. The game engine cannot simulate this. I had to fudge a little and use creative impression to get around this. If you select 308, the aircraft will actually show "310" in game. Not a big deal...but could cause a little confusion. 1. Copy the VFA22 and Decals folders to your \OBJECTS\AIRCRAFT\FA-18a folder. Thats it! Launch SFP1/WoV/WOE and select the VFA-22 skin from the F/A-18A loadout screen. Click here to download this file

Yeah...I think that takes the cake. I work 3 on/4 off so it isn't too bad
