  1. Never, ever...

All, Any woman that marries me had better respect total honest, as I am blunt (but honest in everything I do), as an example, years ago at a works christmas party I asked a 20 year old woman "have you have put on weight" (yes those were my exact words). The result was that she ran into the toilets of the pub that we were in and she did not speak to me for a few months. Perhaps surprisingly she is still good friends with me and she has now learnt to interpret what I say, and if she wants an honest opinion on anything she knows who to come to. The message is honesty is the best policy, and if someone does not appreciate that then they are not worth worrying about. Unfortunately she is married to someone else (we never got together, but she is a true and trusted friend), and I am stilll looking for "miss right". Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  2. Reaching the Heights

Wayfarer, You can consider yourself lucky, in onw of my first missions in february 1915 flying a BE2B, I was given a mission altitude of 17000 ft, the best I have ever managed in manual flight during a mission climbing constantly with a BE2B (until 4 miles from the airbase on the way back obviously) is 7500 ft. This is just letting it climb at its own speed and without trying to set an optimal climb angle, I will try that at some point out of interest. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  3. tractor vs pusher heat

Creaghorn, I have read somewhere, can't remember if it was in a book or on the 'net that James McCudden had cut an opening in the firewall of his SE5A and rigged a door that he could open and shut to provide some warmth. If anyone can provide more info I would be greatly interested. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  4. Davy TASB, I have not tried Arca, i looked at it a while ago but was put off by the forum and people complaining that updates to tracks etc were not being released as advertised. Also the cost of it was putting me off. What are your opinions of ARCA, is it any good? Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  5. Javito1986, You must let us know how that discussion goes. And also the argument that won her over to your way of thinking/The argument that hospitalised you. LOL (Seriously though good luck with that) Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  6. HS, Here are my most wented games for 2011 in no particular order and with the reason why I want them after the -. 1) Deus Ex: Human Revolution (or Evolution) - Loved the 1st Deus Ex hated the 2nd one which was made for consoles. 2) Test Drive Unlimited 2 - Providing it is not mainly multiplayer. 3) Diablo III - loved the 1st 2 4) EA Sports next Rugby game for the PC. 5) A decent new Nascar sim for the PC - EA Sports Nascar Sim Racing 2005 was dire, and they never attempted a follow up so I think a decent Nascar game is 5 years overdue. 6) OFF P4 - but I think realistically we are looking at either the very back end of 2011 or the start of 2012 at the earliest. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  7. I want to get this film

UKW, If it is the film starring Paul Gross, then I saw it in my local tesco for under £5.00 on friday. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  8. Olham, I have the 5870 2GB version in my machine, and it runs BHAH without any problems (as it does with all my games). Previously I had an Nvdia 8600GT, which I thought was a good card although it only ran at 40fps in BHAH as opposed to the 60fps of the 5870, both of framerates were capped by me, but I can now run at 60fps comfortably with the graphics all set to 5 (UncleAl do not mention terrain problems on 5, you remind me of a broken record on that subject). Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  9. Hi, I have recently discovered that the labels are no longer working, I am unable to fix this and are wondering if anyone has any suggestions, also to alter a command I have to delete the assignment that it is set to otherwise the game locks up, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around this short of deleting OFF & CFS3 and reinstalling? Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  10. Wm & Dej, You both make excellent points, in fact if you read "No Parachute" by Arthur Lee-Gould, he devotes 2 appendices to both the BE2 series and the reason it was in service so long, and to the reason that parachutes were not issued to the pilots in the RFC/RNAS or RAF. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  11. British_eh, If you want the definitive account of why he died read "High in the empty blue" by Alex Revell, Alex actually interviewed Hubert Charles who was 56 squadron engineering officer during 1917, was now an accident investigation officer, and he was amazed to find that the air filter which, he Hubert Charles had modified in 1917 to prevent the engine flooding and cutting out. Also JTBM was known for taking off in steeply banked turns, I have just re-read the reference in HITEB to the crash and it is stated that once the SE5A passed 60 degrees angle of bank the speed needed to keep it airborne rose from 48 MPH to 110 MPH. Apologies if I sound bitter, but the incompetence of the Royal Aircraft Factory also caused the death of another pilot of 56 squadron on the 7th May 1917, namely Albert Ball. I just find it incredible that a problem that had been identified over 12 months earlier in the field had not been rectified in the production run at home. Thus Britain lost 2 of her best aces through the incompetence of the home estabishment. Incidentally the combined scores of Albert Ball and James McCudden was 100 eenemy aircraft and 1 balloon shot down. Also the accident report book for the Auxi-le-chateau for the 9th July 1918, has various references to accidents sustained around the airfield, people removing their toes while digging latrines etc, but no mention of one of britain's top aces being killed in a crash. Do you not find that odd, because I certainly do? Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  12. Original German Goggles at Ebay

Hi, Just a quick thought from someone who has drunk slightly too much, but is anyone on this forum capable of lip reading (I realise that we would need both german and british lip readers), who is capable of giving a transcript of what is being said in these early video's. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  13. Imagine fighting in this!

UKW, Don't forget the longbow, that was even deadlier in trained hands i.e. most of the english archers. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  14. Ah, there you are, OvS!

Olham, You could always send him a PM asking if he is ok, and if it is ok to let the other forumites know what is happening with him/what he is doing at the moment. That is what I did with Homeboy. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  15. Thought I'd pop by and say Hi

Swampey, I have just had a quick check on the OFF website at the price of OFF, and for less than $50 + P&P you can get both Between Heaven and Hell and the Hat in the Ring expansion. I thought BH&H was good value when it came out priced $60 + P&P 2 years ago, it is now an excellent bargain. Just a couple of things: 1) if you only have the CD version of CFS3 I would recommend getting the DVD version as you will not need the DVD in the drive to play BH&H or HITR. 2) If you do not already have it get TrackIR, it is a great device and a lot easier to look around your aircraft than using the CFS3 views. Also I would recommend viewing a few of Hellshade's excellent video's which show BH&H off to its full potential. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  16. Hellshade, That is sneaky, buying your wife a new car, before suggesting that you need a new graphics card. I will have to remember that one when if/when I get married. I will have to play OFF extensively (and learn how to use TrackIR5 to discover how good my 5870 actually is. Thank Rugbyfan1972
  17. Hellshade, That is one nice looking card, I can't wait to hear your reports on how it works, and see the video's that you produce using it. Just one question how did you slip it past the finance department? Suddenly my 2gb ATI 5870 feels inadequate. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  18. Favorite World War 1 Movie & Book?

RAFL, How would you rate the above book as a read, and also does it only cover the first world war? The reason I am asking is that I have read a few accounts of Harold Balfour's life as a WW1 airman in the following books: Somme Success - Author Peter Hart (not too sure about this one) Bloody April - Author Peter Hart Aces Falling - Author Peter Hart Years of Combat - Author Sholto Douglas Voices in Flight - Author Anna Malinovska And I am interested in his first World War career mainly and not too bothered about reading a book where half of it covers his Second World War experiences. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  19. Hi, I was browsing the topic that Olham started on keyboard commands, and someone mentioned the fact that we have not seen Homeboy on this forum for some time. So I took the liberty of sending him a PM asking if all is well, below is his reply to me in full. Hi Rugby, Sorry to give the impression that something bad has happened to me. It was not really as abrupt as it may have appeared as I visited the forum for a good long while but didn't post until finally just haven't checked in for a good long while. I have begun a career change (gunsmithing) as I'm approaching retirement and there just simply hasn't been enough hours in a day to allow much computer time much less gaming. I do miss it and hope to get back. I sincerely appreciate your note and to know you guys are thinking about me. That's a real honor. Thank you. Hope to check in sometime. Great to hear you folks are going strong. Please pass along my regards. Mark (HomeBoy) Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  20. Homeboys whereabouts

Olham, Hopefully one day we will have a 4 engine bomber, hopefully one of those tractor-pusher arrangements, that will confuse the hell out of UncleAL. UncleAl that is payback for your comments referring to the british not reading instructions, hey maybe the devs could allow "friendly fire" to make you feel at home? Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  21. Favorite World War 1 Movie & Book?

Javito1986, If you have read Goshawk squadron, I would also recommend War Story and Hornets Sting both by Derek Robinson as they cover the war years 1916 and 1917 and although were written after Goshawk squadron are actually prequels to it. One word of warning though Hornets Sting is quite hard to find (I have just checked Abebooks.co.uk, and they only show 13 copies with the cheapest being £24.99 + P&P), and also quite expensive, the most expensive copy on Abebooks was £190. The two books mentioned are very much in the same style of writing as Goshawk Squadron. Thanks Fenwick
  22. Labels not working

Flyby PC, Thank you for your help, you hit the nail squarely on the head, although I feel it should have been me hit on the head. It was as you pointed out a "CTRL+SHIFT+L thing". Long story short I had been looking in the wrong place in controls, I was looking under L for labels, and then when I could not find it I looked under T for toggle labels, and when that did not activate them I asked on the forum. It was only 5 mins ago after I had followed every bit of advice including yours, and in the end uninstalled OFF and reinstalled it, that I was looking in frustration through the controls from the beginning and saw the control listed as "Aircraft Labels", I started a campaign and much to my relief when I pressed CTRL+SHIFT+L the labels were displayed on the aircraft. For everyone else that offered advice, thank you for the time you took to help me, it is much appreciated. Now to master TrackIR and start flying in earnest. Thanks Rugbyfan12972
  23. Labels not working

Olham, I go into the controls highlight the one I want to change, then click "add new assignment", and add the new key command, you then have to click either cancel or ok, at this point I get a sound and OFF freezes unless I use task manager to exit cfs3, which then kicks me back to the menu screen I was on before I started flying. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  24. Paul Blum's Story: A BHaH Pilot's Saga

Olham, Would raising your guns slightly before firing a second burst above the holes that you have punched in the balloon not work to ignite the escaping gas? Just a thought, as I have not been on many balloon busting flights since the ground gunnery was improved and they are not shooting down their own balloon as I approach. Thanks Rugbyfan1972
  25. Sandbagger, Do any of the other team members have ficticious markings dedicated to them? Thanks Rugbyfan1972
